Idea: Retexture dirt to look like the floor, sugar cane like the portal fizzler field. Put dirt, hide water under the wall, plant sugar cane on top and you get a field you can pass through and it causes a fitting sound effect.
I changed the door to look like one half of round ones, without the frame. I use two paintings to make the frame instead. Really great since it responds to redstone.
I also turned sandstone into a very bright block which looks great as furniture.
Also, why not just remove everything except the dots on the redstone?
The changes you suggest would make it look more like portal, but I do want this pack to still be playable in minecraft (making sugar with portal fields just doesn't make sense to me...). And so this pack is more "inspired by portal" than "exactly like portal."
But perhaps I'll make two versions of the pack eventually: One real, one more exact to portal (mushroom turrets and particle canes, etc.) That way people could just download whichever one they prefer. But I want to finish this pack before I make an alternate version, so that will have to wait a while.
But I'm glad you thought of the bed texture (I have no idea why that didn't occur to me. Quite an oversight on my part). The updated bed is posted, and after experimenting with redstone, I left the circles as they are. I wish they looked better, but it's about as good as it gets with the current system.
This method doesn't replace the title splashes that I created for you (that has to be done with some sort of custom change in the .bin folder that I can't figure out yet. But I'll keep you posted)
Inside minecraft.jar, go to the subfolder that says "misc".
There should be a file called "splashes.txt".
Put each splash on a new line.
The next update will change the black/white/grey wool colors a bit, so don't use those quite yet. I'm too tired now (it's 1:00 a.m.), but I'll post the update tomorrow. You'll also get a new dispenser texture to replace the see-through one.
EDIT: oh yeah. You'll also get the new painting.
In other news, I'll be making two versions of this pack in the future:
1) Modified Portal: Inspired by portal. More realistic with nature and doors, etc. This pack lets you play minecraft normally without getting too confused (this is the current form of the pack, and my preferred style).
2) Perfectly Portal: A modified version of the pack, meant to look closer to the actual portal game (Circular doors, mushroom turrets, particle field canes, pumpkin cubes, etc.). It'll be a lot harder to play minecraft normally with this (turret soup?! Particle field cake?!?!), but customized dungeons might look pretty cool.
On another note, I've been working my little fingers off on a dungeon, and its slowly growing... I won't post it until it's done, but so far I'm very satisfied with how it is turning out.

Hope this helped. :smile.gif:
Thanks, but I had actually already changed the splashes. They're just not automatically shown when the texture pack is being used (it's not a default option in the pack unlike everything else). I'm sure there's a tutorial somewhere that says how to do it--this just hasn't been my top priority. I want to finish the textures/dungeon/etc. until I look around for more projects. But thank you!

What are the portals?
They're paintings. They look like portals if you place them correctly... but unfortunately do not work like the portals in the real portal game. Still. It's the minecraft version.
So I just came across this texture pack and i love it, i made a mansion a while ago and decided to go to that map, with the portal texture pack it looks like a tribute to companion cubes haha, if anyone would like to check it out here's the post to my mansion http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=192830
but anyway, I love this texture pack and please keep up the good work
Update: The changes I mentioned yesterday are now in effect. Wools have been switch around a little to make room for the white "furniture" wool (Original idea from Mr. Magical). There's a new dispenser texture, and a new painting. 2 versions of the pack are now up (although I still prefer the realistic version).
Here's a picture from the dungeon I'm working on (and, no. This isn't the first room. It's a rest-stop):

Hey there, I'm also making a Dungeon/World with this pack. You can find it and a video at viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=198589
Looks fun! Just send me the link again once you've got the dungeon available for download, and I'll put it up on the list.
Oh noes! i use the "Precisely Portal" version, but I think bricks should still be companion cubes, because with pumkins only one side is the right texture. Just a suggestion.

Well noted. That version of the pack won't have the brick companion cube because some people don't like having to use a pick. But I've changed the texture so all of the sides should be covered, now.

I think you should make the cursor look more like the actual portal cursor.
Well, I did make the cursor an oval like the portal version, but it might be a good idea to try the orange and the blue... I'll try it out in a test.
EDIT: Hmmm, yeah. That's unobtrusive enough. I'll add it.
UPDATE: "Precisely Portal" has been switched around a bit. Stone and cobblestone can be used in combination to make the long looking blocks approximately like the original version of the pack, and what is currently cobblestone is now the brick texture. That should help you guys make rooms that look closer to a portal screenshot... The orange/blue cursor was added to that pack as well, and will be added to the "Modified Portal" version in it's next update (it's not worth re-uploading for such a small change, yet).
It's kinda not what i meant but i suppose it's ok. you know how all the Half life two based games have the 5 dots as the cursor? well that with the orange and blue around it was kind of what i was talking about. Also, notch made the redstone white and it gets less power as it goes along, so if you would make the orange dots white all you would have to do is figure out how to change the red graphic to orange as on and blue as off.

I can't make the cursor too big without risking obstructing the player's view of the terrain (the original cursor is only about 5 pixels tall and wide. Total). I might modify the cursor more in the future, but I also might not. Suggestions are certainly welcome, but I don't promise to fulfill them.
Sorry for making it seem like a demand! thanks for putting in the blue and orange. it looks pretty cool. i can't wait for portal 2 in april! Also, if you would like help with anything, i have been putting a texture pack of my own together, and if you wanted help with any of the textures or anything i could help with that. Heres an idea: make the inventory GUI clear so it looks like the gun selector in portal!
Hmm, It seems that now in Precisely Portal now there are no normal cubes. (It's somewhat of a big deal for me, I have cube building puzzles) but it's seems I've bothered you enough with the other cubes, so could I make a modified version of this pack for my level? I will be sure to include credit so people know you made the original.

This is a legitimate concern that I didn't have time to think about when I did that quick update for Precisely Portal... and I partly left the normal cubes out because I couldn't think of a good combination for the two. I thought about sand and sandstone as the cubes, but then we'd have the problem of needing a pick for the companion cube. Hmm... I'm not sure exactly how to solve this for that pack, yet (But of course you're always welcome to customize the pack to fit your own purposes. As long as everyone's happy).
So you guys should let me know what combinations might be best for the normal cube and companion cube (this is only for the Precisely Portal version of the pack. Modified portal will have to forgo the normal cube until we get some more block options). Here are the ideas I have so far, but I don't want to officially change it until I get some user feedback on them:
~ Sand and gravel: sand as normal cube, gravel as the companion cube
~ 2 random colored wools. Probably pink and maroon. Pink, of course, as the companion cube.
They're not realistic solutions, but that version of the pack is leaning more towards creative, anyway, so it doesn't matter much. Just let me know which option you might prefer.
~ Sand and gravel: sand as normal cube, gravel as the companion cube
I think the sand and gravel as the cubes would be a great idea because of the effect in real portal of the blocks falling from the ceiling, and that would be a good effect in a dungeon. But there is the problem of having the companion cube turn to flint if it is hit too many times. I'm sure you'll be able to figure that out though. all notch needs to add is trap-doors, and your all set!
