i have an idea.. try making the lava so it looks like the thing in portal.. and try making it moving... you will need to patch it for the custom lava but i think it will look great!

I'm not actually sure how to do that, but I was planning on looking into it after a few other changes. It would be cool to have the goo... I'll just have to do a bit of research first.

You have just boggled my mind. I knew that combining the texture pack with iChun's Portal Gun mod would make some really cool dungeons... but I admit that I didn't realize just how close we could get. This doesn't just look like Portal in minecraft. This IS portal in minecraft! Do you have an thread link that you want added to the first post in this thread?
After that, I'm going to have to seriously consider re-working my dungeon around (since the gun came out after I was 40% done with it). That'd be a lot of work, though. Hmmm... decisions decisions.

I'm currently reorganizing and adding to the dungeon. I don't really want to create a WIP thread yet, but I'll definitely tell you when I do.
EDIT: Here are some files for custom water and lava that I slapped together a few minutes ago. They're just edits of painterly water. To install, you need to put them (named correctly) in the texture pack .zip and then patch with the HD patcher.
You'll need to rename them after you download them.
I found some of the paintings (especially in the Precisely portal pack) to be somewhat... Useless.
Namely these two:
So I took a little liberty and changed the art file to this:
More useful things have been done, but I figured "hey, it couldn't hurt". You might think about adding those to the pack? Also, take a look at invisible signs. Posted on white wool, they look like the large screens at the beginning of every chamber in Portal. I rather like it.
Also, I decided to take some screenshots of the water and lava ingame. Of course, this doesn't demonstrate their animated juiciness, but oh well. (It does, however, make me want to make a Portal 2 esque map. Oh, Minecraft and your lack of redstone-powered-devices; How you hold me back!)
Here's a flooded Chamber 03... That poor stranded companion cube.
I wanted to get a few shots of the lava, too, which, while it sparks and lights you on fire, is damaging while you're in it, and more appropriate for traps. I forgot, though, that my room was made of wool. "What's that burning sou- oh, ****."
A quick MCEdit and a little bit of TLC later and Chamber 03 is back up and working. Whoo Aperture!
Might I suggest an alternate unportalable wall? Mossy cobble? Sandstone? Ore?

do you know how to get to the Netherlands other than a portal
Korimito:
1) Paintings. I admit that those two are not as helpful in the Precisely Portal version because the door painting doesn't let you use them right next to the door... but I do think I want to keep them around, because not only are they good in combination with signs for GLaDOS comments, but they can also be used as good indications of how to solve a puzzle for the player. It's important to let dungeon makers be able to use such indicators.
2) Signs. The invisible signs on white wool do look good, but I know a lot of people are using signs for ratman comments as well as GLaDOS... so I don't really want to restrict them to only being able to use them on a single block. I will, however, include the invisible sign in the pack as an alternative.
3) Lava: I'll probably still try and make my own goo texture in the future when I have a bit more time (I've got three papers due this week), but that's not bad!
4) Wool next to lava does pose a problem, but I think wool as the grey cubes is still the best option right now. I thought about sandstone/brick/ore/etc., but the wools just fit so much better and are a lot more user friendly. Although the packs are heading a little more towards creative, I still want them to make as much sense as possible. So I'd rather have the grey blocks be wool than a hodgepodge of other items.... so... for now, just try and keep wool far enough away from lava. =)
In other news, I played Portal again recently with the commentary on. And that made me get a few ideas for the pack that I hadn't considered important before... those developers spent a lot of time and effort to make the game mostly intuitive to players, so I should probably incorporate more of that into this pack.
it's kinda cheating that when i find mossy cobble stone i can see everything through it, perhaps give it a redish-orangeish glow like in the game? just a suggestion, and my trap looks awesome with this pack

Mossy cobblestone will keep the wire-mesh texture until we get some sort of grate equivalent from Mojang to compensate for it. The wire can be used with water, lava, and the orange sponge (this block was made to resemble the glow you mentioned) to get some really great effects.
It is hard to use properly, I know. And it can feel a bit like cheating. But it's what this pack will be using until we get a good alternative from Mojang ...I assume that won't be too long. They've been talking a lot about floodgates recently.

i join ur serer does anyone go on it?
Any links are included on the first page (but they are dungeon downloads, and not really server IPs).
Update: Both packs were updated. Pumpkins were changed to accompany the new "pumpkin helmet texture" (which will probably be refined and cleaned up later). Dispensers were re-textured. "Precisely Portal" also had sandstone changed to the "jump" block ("Modified Portal" will have to wait for more block options before it gets that).
The new sandstone block is used to indicate "flinging" (like in the real portal game). Of course, you'd need to download iChun's Portal Gun mod if you want to actually be able to fling yourself with portals.
so building test chambers even without the portal gun mod is proving extremely difficult and time consuming, getting the wiring right alone takes forever not to mention trying to come up with a good idea for the next trap, i've got creativity block and can't even think of something right now to do for the next chamber
I always care a single brick around, because in this pack their Companion Cubes ^^

EDIT 2: I might make an alternate version of the water that looks like moving particles when flowing. That'll let people make decent looking .

*cough* I'm an idiot! *cough* All fixed.
It's much better than my first one, and should take significantly longer to solve than my first one.
