I've been a fan of the artwork of Hans-Werner Sahm for quite a while, and decided to see if I could get some of his work into an art file to use in Minecraft. My biggest problem with the art work in Minecraft is that the resolution is so low, it's hard to tell what the paintings are even supposed to be. Even with a 32x32 texture pack, it's still a little vague. So, I decided to try making a pack where the paintings tile, to take advantage of the higher resolution that would deliver. What you need to do is try to place the paintings in a sequence to get the correct image to match the ones you've already placed. It didn't turn out to be as difficult as I thought. I was figuring on using NBTEdit to get all the paintings needed to complete the pictures, but after a bit of placing and replacing, I got them all to work. The biggest pain were the two largest ones, it took me a bit to realize these need a large space to even begin to display, so I had to use an outside wall that was the only place big enough to hold them both.
If you're interested, here's the web site I took all the graphics from, I really hope they don't mind, and if there's any problem, of course I'll remove the files, but I would think that it should be no big deal. Other art packs posted here have used various images from many sources and no one seems to care. http://sahm.sahm-bilder.com/
Here's the actual art file, remove the "sahm" from the name and drop into your Minecraft.jar in the "art" folder or place in a zipped folder and use as a texture pack, or drop into an existing texture pack zip. It is made for a 32x32 texture set, so you will need to use the Texture Patcher by Xau, which pretty much everyone should know about by now.
Here's a few screens of the art on place
The one on the left is two images tiled, the other two are single images. Some of the tiled images also look fine as singles, experiment.
Image on the left is a single, the one on the right is four images tiled.
Painting on the left is six images tiled, the one on the right is a single.
Single image
Another single
Left is two images tiled, right is a single
Another single
And the big one, two images totaling a 4x8 block picture.
I hope a few people like this and that more people become aware of this talented artist.

Thanks, glad you enjoy it. Forgot to mention in the OP that the textures are mostly John Smith, as Dante80 guessed. I have tweaked them a bit and added some from other packs as I found ones I liked. There's some Faithful 32 in there, plus maybe Mixcraft I think, and a couple others I nabbed here and there.

I love the art... just beautiful...
also, how do you have colored text on your signs? is it a mod or what.
Thanks. The colored text on the signs is available in game with no mods needed. Don't know why this feature isn't implemented better in the game itself. You need to use an external editor like NBTEdit to edit the signs directly and insert the control characters to change colors. See this post viewtopic.php?f=35&t=104124

New file with a 4x4 picture added on the bottom row for use with the latest update. Once Notch gets around to adding one to the default graphics file, I'm sure people will take more notice.
As usual, rename to "kz.png" and place in your texture pack zip or directly in minecraft.jar. For use with 32x32 packs.

Obligatory "What pack is that?" question. Really nice!
