I think the real thing that needs to be stopped are the 16x16 "simple" texture packs that EVERYONE makes that look even worse than the default.
I would, myself, like if more people worked in the 16x16 medium, or if notch would finally go ahead and make texture scaling work. but meh, that might be too much to ask.
I'd just like people to bring interesting things to the table.

I will admit, I made a simple texure pack. It is on the forum but is probably near the bottom of the third page.
What if these people can't help but make simple packs? Imagine this. You are an avid minecraft player, who really wants to draw a texure pack, and one that people will use. So you look around the forums. Some of these people may not have the skills or experience of someone like glimmar or AzaIndustries, so they keep looking for a good idea. Oh! Whats this, look at all the positive feedback shortstuff7's clean design pack got! Let's make a simple pack just like his!
Bottom line. Either they need some help or people to teach them to draw good texure packs, or they liked all the positive feedback some of the simple packs got. If you could teach them how to draw nice, detailed packs, there would not be as many simple packs. Thats my two cents.
I agree with WoodPuncher. (Also, it's not like you HAVE TO, HAVE TO release your pack. You can just keep it for yourself.)
Like, take my texture pack for example. I liked some of the simple packs going around, and I made one and added my own twists. Blue stone. Candles for torches. It has some detail, but not much. Yet I can still create a more detailed 32x32 pack (Greececraft), even though I suck at drawing and adding details. If these artists took pride in their art and added their own twists and features like I have, they might be more successful.
Woodpuncher, I do agree with you! And I do try to make suggestions, but after about seeing 5 of the same thing, there really isn't much to add on.
Like, sometimes you will notice that they person making a simple pack has some artsy flair they could magnify, but the ones I am talking about are, like...
"Let's take the default texture and make it so there are only 2 colors per tile" sorta thing.
Ok!
I agree that HD packs sucks!
I dont want to insult anyone but HD packs just don't fit the game!
I tried many!
Aegons for example! The texture is great!
I appreciate his work!
But the game doesn't fell well!
its not the same blocky experience!
Maybe the his 32x32 mini pack will be better!
Also SIMPLE packs!
I know they are similar but the pack can give a great look in the game!
like here!
Its just great! Also these packs works great with better lighting!
They are some that sucks but there are some great!
Also that guy with the with the monkey avtar made a great pack!
Then the game looks HD!
Smooth!
ALSO i think he game needs just packs that are not higher than 32x32!
Look the Painterly pack!
Thats a masterpiece!
Sadly, the thing that some people are forgetting here is simple... I like red, you may like blue.
What some folks seem to think sucks and detracts from the game, others think 'makes' the game.
Both my wife and myself would not play MC on anything less than 64x, we don't like it all pixelated and lacking details, and so there are others (like the person above me) that likes the lack of details and enjoys the 'smooth' textures.
Live and let live, hell it's not even taking up more than a couple kb for the text on the threads since this forum doesn't need to pay for the bandwidth on this forum for the actual texture packs since they don't host the texture packs themselves.

Not trolling or anything, but...
Why the heck did you buy minecraft in to first place if you are allergic to its Pixely Goodness?
LONG LIVE THE PIXELS!
Why? Because we have 64x and don't have to sneeze and wheeze at it's pixelation. It's a great game, but we don't like the vanilla textures, but love some (keyword: SOME) of the higher rez texture packs (but not all).
In my opinion that one thing is way better than that other thing. That other thing isn't good; and really shouldn't it just not be allowed at all? I mean I don't like it. Do you like it cause nobody I know likes it. Nobody that's a real minecrafter that is. I mean it's just not the way it was meant to be right?
Don't get me wrong, I know people who like that other thing. I got nothin against em. But it ain't right.
I think you should express my opinion back to me just to reassure yourself and everybody else that you agree with all of us about that other thing. That always makes everybody feel real good. Everybody thats right that is.
I have nothing against packs where people hand-drew it, but I get find of mad when they copy form Google images or just fill in tiles with one or two colors. It makes me think of laziness.

It's the internet. Getting butthurt because people don't do what you like is very childish. If you can't cope with that, I recommend you cry elsewhere because it's not going to stop anyone from releasing a stock image texture pack or a solid fill one.

No, yours is wrong. *herp derp*
Seriously he expressed his opinion, I expressed my opinion on his opinion. I shed insight on how lulzy of a crybaby some people are.
I have a request. Could people please stop asking modders to stop making texture packs?
No one's making you download a texture pack you don't like. But you might be discouraging someone from making a texture pack that I would enjoy. So stop it.
And you never know. The beginning modder who makes a boring texture pack today might get feedback and improve and make something that knocks your socks off tomorrow.
If you can't figure out how to navigate the forums and ignore stuff you're not interested in, then you fail at using the internet.
I have to agree with Urthman. Yes I get annoyed by the HD & simple packs that are slapped together carelessly, but discouraging people from trying to give something to the community is only going to hurt it.
And to the OP, the best way to get people to put more work into their textures is to tell them how by giving constructive criticism, not to make a thread telling them to stop even trying.
Every time that someone on the support forums doesn't say anything after I tell them a possible solution, I assume that they are having too much fun enjoying their fixed Minecraft to reply.
I totally agree with this statement he has made. Full HD texture packs are a waste of time and Minecraft memory. I'd rather stick with the original resolution texture packs.
