Since i couldnt get the items.png becuase i couldnt open the file i instead made my own:
anyone may use this if they like
The files are PSD ( photoshop ) format. If you do not have photoshop, GIMP can open them. So can paint.net if you install the PSD plugin. All that info, the links to the various software and the plug-in is on the page with the templates.
Sorry you couldn't get that to work. Let me know if you need any additional help, but it's all right there in the post.
Ok, new question: How do I turn my background (of my png) back into transparency?
I was saving and re-opening my terrain, and all of the transparent spots turned into the last shade of brown I used. Since I'm bad at gimping in general, I don't know how to fix this. If anyone wants to take a crack at this, heres the imageshack upload: http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/3641/128terrain.png.
Just so you know before you open it, I'm trying to make a pixelated western theme. Most of the blocks are brown or tan, and look funny, but my favorite that I've made so far is the 2nd flower, which I made into a small cactus.
If i were to use the 128 png you provided as a pic in the OP, how could I find if my lines are straight? Or would I just have to see in-game?
If you're using GIMP you should really DL the template rather than use the pic in the OP. The template has layers which will help you out a lot. I'm not sure what you mean by if your lines are straight or not. Can you explain?
For your second question, GIMP lets you select a single color to define as transparent. I'm not sure how though. I use Photoshop. There are some tutorials online. I'd check google.
Hmm. I've tried to use the .psd, but I can't figure out the layers. It won't let me modify the single square, or any for that matter. By my lines being off, I mean that in some of the squares ( I use the rectangle tool to define where I want to paint ) I've lowered the top of one square, say the cobblestone, so that the square above is sticking into it. In-game, this would mean that at the top of every cobblestone, there is a small section of grass.
I'll see how to redefine the transparent, because that could be the problem. I tried to cut out a square, which usually leaves transparent, but instead gave me the last shade of brown I used, so that very well could be it.
PS: could I turn a 128x texture sheet into a 16x? I don't think my comp will like HD.
Edit: Now I'm using the 16x .psd, after I changed it into a .png, and turned on snap, so it is working like a charm. Im going to save before I do the transparent things, but I'm just speeding by the normal blocks using a combo of fill, smear, rgb noise and various other filters.
Because you provided the template for the pack, I give you partial credit for my first texture pack (and one item change), Dusty Trail. Please note, its 16x and made by a texture noob. http://www.mediafire.com/?pkbdu3h0un1t43m
Thanks Man!
But Ive Been Looking For the Full Texture file (Zip/File) Every Where And I Just Cant Find it! Only If Some one Could Help me!!!

I'm a little confused as to what you're asking for. If you're looking for the original texture files for those items it is all available in your .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar file. Open that with an appropriate tool. All those elements are inside.
I assume that you're asking for a zip file of everything that can be modified for a texture pack. If you are looking for a complete set of template files I don't think that anyone offers one.
Are you looking for the default .zip file? There isn't one. Notch's default textures are packaged in the .jar file rather than in the format that third party texture pack replacements are provided in. You could produce one from the defaults.
I could help you better if I understood what you are trying to do.
I haven't used GIPM in the past 5-6 years. I just opened up the 16 pixel template in GIMP and tried to figure out what Ahab was talking about and DAMN that is hard to use. I noticed that all layers default to 0% opacity, there are no grouping folders in the layers palette and so it's a big mess in there.
Not being a regular gimper, are there any suggestions from someone that uses that tool regularly for how I could imporve the templates for that editor? I can already see that all titles need to be consolidated on one layer since they aren't in a neat folder. I may just combine all the texts on one.
I'd be willing to try to clean this mess up if I knew the standard practices better. Photoshop just makes it all so easy and tidy. Sorry I've given you all the short shrift here.
Putting them all in one layer as a .png worked wonders for me, but that might only apply to the 16pixel version because you can't confuse one 16 by 16 block with another, at least if you use the select tool to select only what you want to change. 32 wouldn't be bad, but 64 and 256 would be a pain without marker lines.
I'm going to sound so nooby here, but fter you create your terrain texture file what do you do? I am confused becayse i spent nearly 3 hours creating one for myself, and then i had no idea how to load it in minecraft! :sad.gif:
All four templates are now properly updated to versiom 1_2_02 of Minecraft. I'll update the items.png template and expand it to cover all four resolutions soon.
Could you please update the files to be used in 1.3?
I was almost finish with my texture pack and now the terrain file changed. The Redstone wiring isnt there where it used to be and its grayish, dont know if i can put colors in it to look nice again :/
and whats this weird block next to the obsidian?

I 2nd this! the 128 template has been a God send as I'm using parts of at least 6 different texture packs (may be more) to make my own and the template makes it all work.

I have too many things on this board. too much to keep up with...
Thanks! I'll make that change.
