Those of you who hang out here may have noticed that I come up with a new texture idea about once a week. Well this week is no different, I present to you my vision of Minecraft on the Moon.
Grass has been replaced with craters that appear on exposed lunar dirt.
Plants have been enclosed in protective containers.
That is exceptionally clever use of the grass mechanic, and a very well executed concept shot of your idea.
I couldn't see myself playing it full time, but bravo on some real creativity, instead of just another video game conversion (good as some of them may be).
I look forwards to your next crazy idea :smile.gif:
Pretty cool! Now all you have to do is get rid of the day cycle or at least, the blue sky atmosphere (somehow, if that is futurely possible) and change the moon to the earth, since you are on the moon. :smile.gif: Neat idea.

Eh at this resolution those craters are about as good as I could get them. I would kill for normal map support on textures >_>.
Anyway if you want to see what they look like in game for yourselves, here is the rough draft of the terrain.png
The 'cobblestone' is now a high tech metallic building material perfect for your space bases and fits decently well with the new glass. (Glass is the same as the overlay on the trees.)
Ores have been replaced with rather stylized 'futuristic/alien' versions.
All plants have their own containers. Not sure how good some of those look though.
Lastly, bedrock has been replaced with green cheese. (Re-tinted sponge. >_>)

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I should at least get the terrain.png done. Other art (such as creature reskins) may or may not get done for a while depending on motivation and inspiration. For example, I'm not at all sure how you would do a sheep in a space suit and still make shearing it make any kind of sense.

This is a beautiful, original idea. I'm expecting to see a space suit instead of armor, but as you said it would be kinda difficult to shear a sheep in a space suit. Maybe you could put only the helmets on animals and ask for a healthy dose of willing suspension of disbelief. However, I wonder what color will the water be?
As this is an original resolution pack, I have no control over how water or lava will look.
I also had a brainstorm on what to do with the sheep. *fires up GIMP* "It's time to make a monster! Muahahahaha!"

Oh! I love this too! As regards the space suit business and sheering, etc. ...how about the helmets everyone is suggesting + a little oxygen tank and pipes. I know, not very scientific in a vacuum, but Minecraft has a lot of leeway. And when it's shorn, you could draw the helmet and pipes looking a bit skew or something.
Ah, sorry, I've just thought...not having looked at the png files for the creatures, are there two separate images for the sheep? If not I don't think my idea would work!
Very much looking forward to what you come up with.
ps. love the idea of all the plants covered in their own personal domes!
Well I was planning on having the sheep done and ready to show off but then GIMP decided to crash and I realized I hadn't saved. (In my defense that's the first time I've ever had it crash when I wasn't also running Dwarf Fortress at the same time.) So I gave up in frustration and spent the rest of the night talking with people on the MUD I'm programming about how one would abstract the concept of a party in an rpg.
Hopefully today will be better.
Oh and the pigs are going to get the space suit treatment (Pigs... In... Spaaaace! - for you old school muppet fans out there.) but I've got a slightly different plan for the cows and a very different plan for the sheep.

I dream of electric sheep.
Or rather I should say Semi-autonomous High Energy Elemental Processors (S.H.E.E.P.)
Concept shot of the metallic buggers.
Ha ha! Beautiful! I can have my 'C.A.N.I.N.E' and eat it! :biggrin.gif: Obviously reminds me of Doctor Who's canine robot. They should definately introduce this in an episode of Doctor Who with that title. Wonderful. :biggrin.gif: I can just imagine how cool these would be with the way the sheep move in minecraft...so roboticly. Hilarious! Made my evening this.
Also...you use GIMP and Dwarf Fortress...two of my favourite things. Though I quickly get lost in DF's complexity. GIMP is just my most used thing, even though I have Photoshop!
Yea, I have Photoshop too at work but what with it being somewhat expensive and not able to run on Linux I don't have a whole lot of motivation to use it. Maybe if I had to actually print stuff (as it's cymk filters are better) but I don't.
Anyway, More shots of more animals!
Pigs In Space! (Who knew Notch was funding a Sweedish space program with his new money? >_>)
Space Cows! (These are the actual aliens responsible for all those bovine abductions, they find earth cows sexy.)
And lastly, the final sheep skin, with somewhat better alignment of textures and a closer resemblance to the the 'wool' block texture.

Got another screen shot, this one showing off the interior of a building.
The walls were cobblestone, the floor was wooden planks/stairs.
The torches are now chem sticks and the smoke and fire particles have been removed. (no air for fire after all)
I have also edited my original post to include the current copy of the terrain.png
Decided to include two more shots to contrast this with the original textures.

terrain.png is done!
particles.png (Just removes fire and smoke effects)

The animal skins I have done:
sheep.png (Robotic Sheep!)
sheep_fur.png (With metallic wool!)
pig.png (Pigs In Spaaaace!)
cow.png (Alien Cows!)
chicken.png (Chickens of pure Energy!)
New moon.png (Finally!)
New Items!
New arrow art! (ZAP!)
Download with everything. (Works with the in game pack swapper!)
mooncraft.zip
Still left to do:
Armor, vehicle skins, the rest of the items and various UI stuff.
I couldn't see myself playing it full time, but bravo on some real creativity, instead of just another video game conversion (good as some of them may be).

Looking at your past jobs, I can honestly say I'm a fan.

When Willman mentioned cows or sheep in spacesuits, I had to think back to Spyro 2.
Boy does that bring back memories.
