At the moment I'm experimenting with lots of interesting emission effects (an Optifine function that some of you will remember from my newly introduced glowing mushrooms) on zombies, zombie villagers, etc.
Also the realization that I can now have multiple extra paintings in the pack that can all be displayed in game simultaneously (not just by slowly animating one painting through a list of paintings as before) and these extra paintings can exist along with animated paintings. Therefore it's now possible for me to have many stationary and/or animated wheels, machinery, control panels, etc. along with a much greater choice of paintings, posters, decorative panels, etc.
This one Art Deco design has taken me me a couple of days to get to the stage where I'm happy with it in what it produces when placing the block in various orientations! Yeah...I'm slow! I get it!
Four more on the back-burner and 11 more to start from scratch.
I'm looking for designs that are architecturally pleasing as well as providing some useful decorative functionality for floors and walls both interior and exterior. I'm also into 'Art Deco' at the moment, as you can see from the above screenshot. I know, Art Deco is not strictly Steampunk, but I also love the Bioshock world view and that has very successfully merged the art and the genre.
Hope you like.
Oooh, getting into art deco? Welcome to the club. Fantastic work as always.
Oooh, getting into art deco? Welcome to the club. Fantastic work as always.
Extra paintings is a wonderful addition for sure and in the end although Art Deco is fantastic (and you should know, as you're the expert for sure) I thought it better to spread the designs across a wider field to encompass, Victorian, Edwardian, Surreal, William Morris, theater design, etc. But can't get enough of Art Deco!
Looking forward to seeing what you do with lots of extra paintings.
Just about to upload 3rd and final GSv21 vid. If all goes well...meaning if I don't get called away to do something else...I hope to upload GSv21 resource pack sometime this week. I will also upload a greatly edited and up to date version of my Newglim City world map that will work with all the changes to terracotta. I spent a few days tediously swapping the new terracotta that was spattered around my buildings over to the new concrete textures (derived from the old colored terracotta).
GSv21 will also work fine with the full release version of Optifine and MC 1.13.2, but for those who don't use Optifine I've converted more random textures over to Json file control.
Switching terracotta over to a natural set of textures was another unavoidable big update, hence the delay. Updating should be more frequent in the future and a little more enjoyable for me as I release new textures as and when I complete them.
Oh man, love the work, and can’t wait to finally play with these new textures. Also, it’s been almost 8 years I’ve been waiting on this. Page 666.. so close. I’m am so going to push my hand print into that wet cement. 😈 Also, I’ve said a lot already on the new textures <3 you know you’re the best in my eyes ~Toxic from YouTube~

Hahaha! 666 and you got the first post!
Hiya, Toxic/Doctor_Steampunk. Welcome to the Minecraft Forums.
A bit of a scary page, but the video I'm about to upload is perhaps appropriate for it! Pity that everything didn't coincide with Halloween, but pretty close nonetheless!
.....Glimmar's Steampunk v21 vid 3 - Atmospheric Emissive Magic!
This short video is a showcase for the new GSv21 update and specifically covers my introduction of Optifine's new 'emissive' function.
For those of you who like to use Optifine for those extras like better skies, extra random mobs, animations , colors, ctm and extra paintings can now also enjoy the delights of 'emissive' or 'glowing' textures in game.
Some of you might have already seen my glowing mushrooms in GSv20. In working to update my zombie villagers I had time to begin to introduce some extra examples of the Optifine emissive function, some example of which you will see in this video. There will be much more in future updates...time and pressures allowing.
Next installment of Glimmar's Steampunk GSv21 (fully Optifine enabled) is finally uploaded over at my Curse/Forge page! Check it out! Click on the link in my OP on page 1.
This update radically changes my old terracotta textures to random 'natural' versions of terracotta as per demand. It will alter your current world builds and if you rely heavily on my old terracotta (stained_clay) textures it will require work to convert things. All old terracotta textures like tiles, mosaics and marble, etc have been moved to concrete. It took me about a day to manually change everything in my City of Newglim back to the old textures using the new concrete versions. I couldn't find an up-to-date world editor to quickly convert things in my world, but it wasn't as huge a task as I'd anticipated.
GSv21 is now fully compatible with the latest version of Optifine for Minecraft 1.13.2 (GSv20+ was only able to work with 'preview' versions of Optifine).
Check out my preview videos (1,2 and 3) in posts above to see some of the new things I've been working on that you can now play with in GSv21.
You don't absolutely need Optifine to enjoy even more newly edited random textures, however if you do check out all my preview videos and want to see beautiful daytime and nighttime skies, loads of random mobs (now with glowing eyes and lights!), lots of extra paintings and more ctm that either can't be converted to random Json textures or haven't yet had time to do so...you'll find Optifine...and GSv21 makes all this possible.
Please see my GSv21 'Changelog' in previous posts above or in the 'readme' file supplied in the pack detailing the continuing task of updating the pack to work with Minecraft 1.13.2> including new random terracotta (doesn't require Optifine), new glazed terracotta and re-purposed concrete textures. This update also provides many extra paintings (requires Optifine) and improvements to zombie villagers and monster mobs, some of which have new Optifine 'emissive' functions by way of glowing eyes and lights!
Still much work to be done re-introducing animations to guis, mobs and paintings and of course all the new MC 1.10-1.14 additions will be added in small regular updates to come. Watch this space!

did you try using the /fill replace command?
Unbelievably gorgeous work, BTW.
I love cats, but the scene with the cats in the dark sent chills down my spine.
Just uploading a big edit to my 'Newglim City' world save download to match GSv21 and all the changes to terracotta. This version requires MCv1.13, Optifine for MCv1.13 and GSv21 to make sense of the world.

/fill <coordinates of one corner of the area> <coordinates of the opposite corner> <Newblock(e.g. minecraft:blue_concrete)> replace <OldBlock(e.g. minecraft:blue_terracotta)>
Unfortunately there is a 32,768 limit of blocks at a time (including air blocks) so you have to do it one building at a time, or as I use it one to 5 Y coordinates at a time depending on the size of the area. Also it doesn't preserve block states between similar blocks, which is important if replacing stairs.

That is a seriously useful bit of info for the likes of me, Giam. Why didn't I think to ask before spending an entire day swapping blocks around. Ah well, you only learn by making mistakes...except I'm not sure even that works for me! Many thanks for the example.

So, I've noticed that a few blocks and items don't have new textures yet - namely the prismarine and purpur blocks, as well as the new 1.13 blocks. Might i ask what plans you have for them, if any?
Also, may I make some requests? I'd really love to see the prismarine blocks be some sort of corroded copper - a similar colour, but made to look like old, green-blue copper sheeting or pipes. Purpur I suppose would, if you wanted to keep it purple, work as some sort of insulated material, or if you changed the colour entirely, an actual copper coloured block might be nice.
I'm also loving the new terracotta block designs, with a particular fondness for the purple, red and black glazed terracottas - I feel that they will make excellent wallpapers for residential rooms.
IncarnationofInsanity, you're comment is very encouraging.
It was quite some time ago that I had a discussion with Rosestorm on the subject of prismarine, back when it was first introduced, he asked the same question. I'm too lazy to look back I'm afraid to quote them, but I mentioned then I was considering making the prismarine bricks out of corroded copper or riveted 'verdigris' panels, as the undersea temple/fortress initially gave me the impression of an alien 'submarine' nautilus or undersea 'base' abandoned on the sea floor. I also mentioned that there was a good excuse for introducing more 'electrickery' textures with prismarine and purpur.
Other matters intervened at the time I'm afraid, but I did collect lots of visual inspiration for when I get down to business. At this stage I'm not so sure how exactly I'll go with prismarine, but there is obviously a lot to do to catch up with undersea stuff, so it might prompt me to focus in that area next. However, to pardon a pun (prismarine being 'jade-like') I'm just feeling a little 'jaded' too at the moment with the long nights I've spent on all the terracotta and concrete... so needing a little break to catch up on some other RL things.
Glad you're liking the new glazed terracotta as they were a lot harder to design for than any other set of blocks and yes, the purple, red and black glazed terracotta were designed with Victorian/Edwardian carpets, fabric and wallpaper in mind (as the GSv21 video 1 alluded to)...hopefully they might have some other uses too when combined with other blocks.

Not to worry Glimmar, taking care of yourself and other IRL stuff is far more important than working on this.
Quick question though - is there any way to choose which bookshelf texture is used when I place a block? I know I have alternate textures turned on, because the default bookshelf was coming out as the double drawers variant, but unfortunately, the somewhat random scattering of textures isn't really working for the library I'm trying to build. My first thought was the minecraft debug stick, but it seems to only be able to change the orientation of blocks, so that wasn't working.

As far as I know there isn't a way to select individual random bookcase textures, but I'm not hot on understanding the innards of Minecraft. Just a simple, not very successful artist here, sorry!
What I could do is produce a small add-on pack that you can add above the main GS pack in your selected resource pack folder. This bookshelf add-on pack would just consist of random bookshelves (I could also do the same for those just wanting cupboards and drawers or just shelves of gizmos), but then you'd be stuck with just those categories of textures wherever you built bookshelves.
Another way would be to designate another not so important block as a secondary bookshelf block, just for random bookshelves. Again, I'd need to make an add-on pack for that and I don't know which block folk would consider unimportant enough to lose to this.
I'm no modder for sure, but perhaps it's possible to add-in our own blocks now without needing a separate mod...don't know really...I'm guessing not.
On a different note. I just remembered I have a load of new plant/flower textures that I wanted to add into the pack, so there might be another GS update soon. I just needed a few days to get my enthusiasm back. Lol!
Amongst other things, here's an extra 12 yellow plants to be added into GSv22, bringing the total to 24!
I'll be changing the name of 'Dandelion' to 'Yellow Plants' as these new plants are going in the dandelion slot to make sense of their use as yellow dye. If you have any better suggestions on what to call this group of random flowers/plants I'm happy to listen.
Extra paintings?!?! Best news I've heard all day.
Oooh, getting into art deco? Welcome to the club. Fantastic work as always.

If your doing this for the other flower colours as well, then maybe for a name idea (insert colour name here) wildflowers.
