Well this is quite inspiring, I will work on my texture pack this weekend.
Two questions:
Can you offer a version that fixes bricks and gold blocks, but DOESN'T fix water and lava animation? Having a custom colored water and lava is quite important to me, and making a texture pack really change the game feel.
Even more difficult, would there be any way you could tweak fire and lava? From what I understand the animations are code based, and I was wondering if you could possibly change the color values for water to be a more dull teal color, much like the color of doku's and my texture pack. (mine is slightly more blue, but anything more realistic than the vibrant blue would be welcomed)
Thank you for this effort, good to see SOMEONE is still working on Minecraft! (huehuehue)
For those of you who can't get the patcher working, I've made a .zip that contains the modified .class files (hope you don't mind, xau). As with any other mod, just open the minecraft.jar with 7-zip/WinRAR, and copy the files in. You'll also need to delete MOJANG_C.DSA and MOJANG_C.SF from the META-INF folder to get it working.
Excellent job! Works perfectly with the 32x32 texture packs!! We've been waiting a long time for this. Thanks for stepping up to the plate to fix it. I would love to see this support higher res texture packs, too.
JAR files are ARCHIVES--HOW THE HECK DO YOU EXECUTE AN ARCHIVE!?
I tried opening it with JAVAW.EXE --Java Virtual Machine Launcher--but all it does is pop up an error box which says:
"Could not find the main class:
C:\User\<USERNAME REDACTED>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\mcpatcher.jar.
Program will now exit."
You cant "run" a jar file, that doesnt make any sense
If you have Java installed (you do, if you're playing minecraft) you should be able to run jar files. If your file associations are messed up, run this to fix them http://www.jonelo.de/java/jarfix/
I had the same problem as that other guy
I right click it, select "open with... Java Platform SE Binary"
Then I get an error message saying "Can't find minecraft.jar or minecraft.original.jar"
(I put mcpatcher.jar into "bin", right above minecraft.jar)
I had this problem too - the solution I found is to (manually) copy minecraft.jar and rename the copy "minecraft.original.jar". It ran fine after that.
If your using MAC, then it wont work cause the mac mincraft is .app, not .jar... you have to download the linux version (.jar) minecraft... and even then i get an error launching minecraft after its patched... if i dont patch it it works fine... but if i run the patcher i get an error running the newly created minecraft.jar.
On Mac OS X, minecraft.jar should be located under /Users/(yourname)/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin. The linux Minecraft.jar is not the correct file to patch. You must install a 32x32 texture pack first or it will not work.
To install, first install a 32x32 (512x512) pack like brown and bloom. Then put mcpatcher.exe in your .minecraft/bin folder and run it. It should move the original minecraft.jar to minecraft.original.jar and patch minecraft.jar.
Sorry if I sound like a retard, but do you mean patching it up into the original one, using the ones from the minecraft.original.jar into the minecraft.jar or something else? And also, do we delete the other two files because I just get a black screen. Other than that thanks -Q1kyle25
He means the updater will automatically make a back up copy of minecraft.jar, named minecraft.original.jar, before it patches the files. That way you can easily go back to normal if something goes wrong. All you have to do is have a texture pack installed, put mcpatcher in your bin folder, and run it. That's all.

EDIT: link removed - use the latest version in the OP!
I'll update tomorrow maybe with some stuff that was requested.
