Huh i have tried for a while, even though i successfully modified infidevs "minecraft.jar" and edited the moon and sun in terrain folder when i start up the game the moon or sun doesn't change at all.
Does it have to do with using the offline client? Even thought it doesn't change in either.

The cake is NOT a lie!
Without editing the classes, the maximum size of any texture file is 512x512.
just rename it moon.png
