And apparently you can resize the texture file 200% and it will show up in game like this:
Notice the grass has more 'blocks' than the dirt.
I'll wait for official support from Notch before making a texture file based on this. But if it does happen I'll be able to get closer to the 3d.game heroes look.
Make them high resolution, but only make this change to remove the misaligned edges:
I was actually considering a combination of the two, since some blocks look better with the bigger block style like the trees. But you're right, it could be a chance to just fix the edges.
I'm always too late on this I guess. I made a 3D Dot Game Heroes tile set after I saw a screenshot some months ago. Now I make a higher resolution version, but I'm still not the first. At least I can safely say that I took the colors and patterns (where I could find similar terrain at least) straight from screenshots of the game that I made. I didn't bother with water or lava, because I could never get it to work right in the past and the water in 3D Dot Game Heroes is super shiny and not pixel anyway.
I'm making a 128x128 tile super HD version to have the boarder for each tile appear correctly.
The snowfall particles are in the root of the minecraft.jar and it's called snow.png <3
Tested it a bit. I tried enlarging the texture size to let me use smaller pixel. Ended up getting rid of the snowflake patterns. It ends up looking like a bit more realistic I guess. Still have no idea what kind of pattern to use if any.
I did the lava. I tried to keep the ugly 45 degree block as unnoticeable as possible. That was always a sticking point for me whenever I tried skinning the lava. I'll play around with it some more.
As for the water, I kept it the same. I like that it is transparent and when in shallow water you can still see the blocks underneath which still give it that blocky style.
But once Notch puts native support for higher resolution textures in the client, the hardcoded flowing water/lava will overwrite these.
I'm loving the paintings! I never would have thought to make parts of them transparent and transform 'em into flags. I think I may merge them into my current skin....

Great job anyway!
Thanks. I actually got the idea of the banners from a realistic texture pack I used during indev. I wish I could remember its name but all credit to that. edit- I think it was SMP's indev pack.

Might I suggest making your own snow-fall texture?

EDIT: Updated for new update.
edit- posted the small block version I was in the process of making.
About skinning the water/lava, don't worry about it since the animated blocks will overwrite them once larger textures are supported fully.
Thanks
I have yet to touch anything apart from the terrain texture mainly because I'm lazy. I'd have to look around the files and see where it's kept.

sure, give me a bit.
edit -
Actually Zachariasmith made a creative version a few months ago and PM'd me about it. I don't think he'll mind me posting it.
edit 2 -
I updated a few of the blocks with my current one but I'm asking him for permission to post it first. Stay tuned.
edit 3 -
got permission, check front page.
Great job anyway!
