So basically my mod was going to have something like TConstruct, where you can create tons of unique tools, like a iron-handled sapphire sword. That would've taken ages to make all the textures, even after some cutting down on possibilities. So long that writing this program and using it was going to be TONS faster than making each texture individually.
So basically, this program is used to make every combination of tools possible in a fraction of the time. It's simple.
Step 1) Make the handles of the tools.
Step 2) Make the blade/head of the tools you want.
Step 3) Run the program and watch it put together every single combination possible saving you the work.
For full instructions, and an example, watch the video down there it's short... and trust me watching this video and the time it WOULD'VE taken you to make the textures is still 10x faster.
This already comes with the vanilla sword blades and handles allowing you to get started really fast making vanilla combos, vanilla+mod combos, and modded only combos.
Here's a free video on how to use and stuff:
I really hope this speeds up mod development for huge mods. I'm hoping, because of this, that many more larger mods will be created. This program doesn't have to be made for tools only... you can also combine block textures, fish, foods, literally any 2 textures that are 16x16 can be combined.
You might want to note, the more combinations you make possible, the longer it will take for the program to create all the combos, and it may end up running out of memory if you go super overboard. Also, the more textures you create will make the size of your mod go up. No one wants a 3 gigabyte mod so I'd be careful when making HUGE operations. It's not like this will be the holy grail of mod texturing creation.
Special thanks:
The guys who made Java.
Minecraft for having the textures I modified.
Mediafire for hosting the download.
TConstruct and my mod's next update for the inspiration to make this.
That one hobo I see sometimes when going home from school because... well.. he didn't do anything... but still. Special thanks to him...
You would only need to create the texture for the parts. You can layer the different parts on top of each other during the rendering of the item. That is how TConstruct is doing it
Basically you tell the renderer to do multiple passes on the same item and then you apply a different texture each time. I would recommend using this instead of creating a texture for each combination. It will save you a lot of space and ram.
It is a cool program though and I could see it being used for some things. +1 Rep
I tried doing that... and it's still a little strange to me. Never worked with rendering before.
But it is still fun to play with, and newbie-friendly... I can understand some newbies to modding needing this program early on before they figure out the TConstruct thing (and still I haven't figured it out yet).
But it was nice to get 1 free rep!
In fact... I think TConstruct's code is open source... derp.
Might as well make a tutorial for that...
well anyways I'm glad that you like mah program.. it took me about 2 days to make only because I was lazy and I'm new to working with BufferedImages.

TConstruct uses multiple render passes to layer the item parts, but this is still very useful to large mod makers. Nice work!
Yeah TConstruct uses render passes, nbt, and a bunch of other really complicated stuff I'm still trying to figure out. This uses BufferedImages and drawing them on each other.. similar logic to render-passes.
I figured out render passes for the most part but editing nbt and stuff is still a tad strange.

Glad to see tools like this starting to make their way into the community. I can see this being useful in mods with a more fine-tuned crafting system, mixing components and such. +1.
