When I look back at my code, I say one of two things. Either "How the hell did I make sense out of any of this?", or "How the hell does this even work, this is pure crap!".
I'd love to try this out because the previous backup application I was using stopped working for some reason. But it's too bad that Windows XP is not supported Is there no way to make it work on XP?
Sorry for taking so long to answer (almost 2 weeks :S).
MCBackup doesn't work on Windows XP since it requires the .NET Framework 4.5. .NET 4.5 was released for Windows Vista and up, so it is impossible to install on XP
If you went into the source code, you might be able to change it to an older version of the framework, but I am not sure if that is possible, and if it would work.

MCBackup 3.2.0 has been released! Changes include:
Added custom skinning! Set the background to any image!
MCMap integration! Every time you back up a save, a thumbnail of the world is created!
New sidebar! Shows useful information and save thumbnail!
Many bugfixes
MCBackup can now be installed using a brand-new installer, or downloaded in .zip file. Currently, automatic updates are disabled, so you will have to come back here for more information soon.

Tried using it but it's not recognizing the minecraft folder as valid ):
The way MCBackup detects if a folder is a Minecraft folder is that it tries to find the 'launcher.jar' file in the folder you specified. You must have run the (new) Minecraft launcher at least once. Keep in mind that MCBackup 3 does not work with Minecraft versions under 1.5.2.

My only problem with this is that it doesn't support other launchers. What I mean by this is that it doesn't work with something like the ATlauncher, which saves minecraft in a very different way. This means that I'll either have to change what launcher I use to play, or not use your backup

I have started using this to back up my FTB files. I changed the destination files of the world destination and it found my FTB world quite easily.
I have been able to manually create and restore backups but the auto backup continually crashes the utility.
I don't see how the auto utility is doing anything different when it backs up. I haven't touched the prefix and suffix. I'm going to start fiddling with it and see if I can get it to work. I will reply back if I find anything.
If you have any suggestions as to what is going wrong it would be much appreciated.
The FTB is running at 1.6.4 version of minecraft on Windows 7. I'm running net framework 4.51. I have placed the minecraft backup utility in a different drive from where minecraft is running. As far as I know everything else is up to date that you state in your forum.
UPDATE:
Used your Beta build and that fixed it. Like the GUI changes, very nice.

Many launchers still use the "old" Minecraft folder structure, with which MCBackup 3 is not compatible. I might add options later for compatibility with the most popular launchers (that is, the Technic Launcher, Feed the Beast, and ATLauncher).

Well, at least I know someone uses my beta builds
There was a minor programming error causing the crash. Sorry about that! It is fixed in version 3.5.0.0.

Does this only work for local minecraft installs? I'm trying to find a program to backup my minecraft server better. I had hoped this would work but it doesn't find the install. Is there a way to make it work with it or do you have a version that works with servers?

Yes, this only works with singleplayer Minecraft installs. I've been thinking of making a server version for a while now, but never actually got to it. Sorry!
For some reason it's not detecting my .minecraft folder
I'm sorry to hear about that. Try answering the questions below:
Are you using the new Minecraft launcher? MCBackup 3 only works with the new launcher and folder hierarchy.
Are you using a custom launcher? They mostly use the old folder organisation, which does not work with MCBackup 3.
Did you run the launcher at least once? MCBackup detects Minecraft folders by checking for the existence of 'launcher.jar'. If you have not run the launcher, it will not appear.

Trying to reconfigure it for a modpack, but it keeps saying that my modded .minecraft folder is invalid and doesn't have minecraft installed?
Helpzies?
It's something that's been on my list for a while now, but it will most likely take some time. I'll work on it for release 3.7.0.0.

Yes, but by doing this, you end up with random copies of everything everywhere, lose some, it's all unorganised, and, quite frankly, it's no fun.
