Mod compatible ? ( Option to add Custom Biomes ) ( add biomes by Biome Number)
Yes, there's two files it uses: Biomes.default.txt and Biomes.user.txt. The idea is you put custom biomes in the user file, then the default file can be updated from the help menu. (Though I rececently found that's broken for the moment.) Entries in the user file always override the others. Though either will work, biomes don't get added to vanilla Minecraft very often. Also check out:
Excellent little program. Very easy to use. I used it on my FTB Ultimate server to remove some nasty looking green water (Mini Jungle Biome). Thank you very much 31stCenturyMatt.
That's a nifty tool! Is there any chance of adding depth / height detection?
Thanks! The way Minecraft works, biomes are only defined for x and z coordinates, they fill the whole column. Like, if you wanted a desert on top of a jungle, current Minecraft won't do that. Is that what you mean?
New version 1.1, please see the op for download link. Changes:
Fix checking for block color, biome color, and program updates no longer working.
Include default block colors though Minecraft 1.5 and snapshot 13w19a.
Chunk loading and terrain map rendering are now multi-threaded. On computers with multiple processor cores this can significantly speed things up. On systems with a single-core processor there should be no noticeable difference.
Updated label for biome generation from Minecraft 1.4.1 to 1.4.2 since they're the same.
Added option to fill/replace biomes with those from Minecraft 1.5.2, though it should be identical to 1.4 too.
And I know it's often requested but I'm sorry I haven't implemented a slippy map yet. (Draggable, so you wouldn't have to worry about region boundaries.) Unfortunately it's not likely to happen soon, either. But I did try to speed up region loading and rendering this release.
Matt I just wanted to thank you for this awesome tool, it works like a charm! I've been using it for the past week to clean up a 38 sq.km world (the setting for my adventure map, Criswelvania). The world has been active since MC Alpha, and so the biomes as you can imagine were a patchwork mess. It's taken me about 30 hours so far to clean up the 152 regions in the map, but it's clear that if I'd used WorldEdit or SethBling's MCEdit Biome Filter, the task would've been nearly impossible.
Great job man, this is the tool I've been waiting for for over a year!
Matt, Just wanted to join in and say Thank You for such a great tool. I have had a server since Beta and i am finally able after finding this tool, to clean up some of the snow covered structures that have been plagued by biome changes. So great job there.
I would like to chime in with a couple suggestions that i don't think would be to hard to implement and would make the tool even more useful. The tool works great but over the last week or so I found myself wishing it would do 2 things (or at least I could not figure out how to do them if it already does)
First, What about an "Ignore Snow Layer" option?
When trying to restore some now snow covered areas back to their original biomes, I found it difficult to see where the biome boundaries should be unless i used MCedit or whatever to remove the snow layers first. Having the tool just ignore the snow layer and relay what block was underneath it in these cases would be useful for doing so.
Second, What about a "Crop" button for both the "Select by Block" and "Select by Biome" selection toggle areas?
This would allow you to select an area using the various tools and then crop the selection down to just the block/biome that is within the already selected area.
Thanks for your consideration of these, and thanks again for the great tool. If you need any clarification on the above just ask...
I was looking into doing a new biome update, but never finished it. I got this far, just never added the color codes:

New info:
Here's a complete list. Got the biome info from the Unmined thread, and the color info from a reddit thread linked in the AMIDST thread. These are the colors supposedly that Mojang uses, so I've updated them all.
# Biomes and the colors used to highlight them on the map are defined here. Please add any custom
# biomes you wish to add to Biomes.user.txt. Updates to this file (default) can be downloaded from
# the "Check for updates" menu under Help. Definitions in the custom file (user) will always
# override those in this file, so you can have an up-to-date list of biomes in vanilla Minecraft
# without overwriting any changes you make yourself make yourself (in Biomes.user.txt).
I couldn't find a color for Jungle Edge M, apparently, that is so rare you hardly ever see one. I looked through several worlds in AMIDST and never saw one, so I set it's color to black. If anyone ever finds one, let me know the seed, world type & coordinates and I'll put that color in. Also, apparently frozen ocean is either not used anymore or very very rare, I never saw one in any of the seeds I checked in AMIDST.
I may eventually get around to updating the blocks files one of these days.
Sorry for such a delay. If you use Help > "Check for updates" you should be able to download default colors for the new blocks and biomes now. As for a new version, I see the suggestions, but I can't promise when I'll have time to get to work on it.

But I thought that the custom biomes thing was broken. Is it still?

If you download Biome Painter 1.1 it should work properly.
