I'm currently revisiting this [search and replace]. I got partway through an implementation back in December, but I need to evaluate whether it's worth trying to complete or scrapping for something more primitive.

The other suggestion probably wouldn't be bad.
Thank you for taking time for this! I currently REALLY need to use Search and Replace, but PLEASE take good time making it!
Does this work with all versions? When I created a new world in Minecraft and tried to find it in NBTExplorer, it didn't show up. I already had horses and other 1.6 items. I tried hitting the refresh button and restarting NBTExplorer, but the save file still won't show up. Suggestions?
I'm using the Windows version, and I just realised that NBTExplorer is using the default save folder, but I changed the location of my .minecraft. Derp. =P
Another question: If I wanted to modify the attributes of a mob (in this case horses), where would I find their data saved? Do I need to find the right region file? (And how would I figure out which one?) Sorry, I'm new to NBT Editors and Minecraft's save file editing.
Yes, you need to hunt it down. You can try selecting your region directory, and then using the search function on a tag that uniquely identifies horses (don't know it off-hand but [http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Chunk_format] is an invaluable place to look for info on tags).
Alternatively, if you know the block coordinates where your horse is, you can use the following math:
ChunkX = BlockX / 16
RegionX = ChunkX / 32
ChunkWithinRegionX = ChunkX mod 32
Do that for your X and Z coordinates and you can drill into the chunk with the horse and expand the Entities node. It should be in there.
There's been a previous request for a search feature that handles that block math for you so it might appear in a future version.
So I went to run it and it says it can't find the application. What should I do and I also want to customize villagers with more than one item to sell is that possible?
1. What operating system and what NBTExplorer download?
2. Youtube might have some guides on it. I don't know offhand so I can only refer you to the main source of NBT tag information: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Chunk_format. You could add more trade offers, or change the number of a single item being sold. But I don't think you could sell two different items as a single transaction.
By the way, there's a pretty easy way to edit horses. Be riding the horse when you save and exit. Get to the level.dat file of the world - data > player > riding, and that's the horse's data. The jumping and running and such can be found in two of the five folders within the attributes folder. Doing so, I got off the horse, left the game, came back, and all the data was still there. Yey.
The speed and jump height is based on 0-1, in case you didn't know, where 0 is nothing and 1 is best. I have my horse set to .99 each, and even that's a lot better than most, if not all horses you could find randomly generated in the game (a speed more like .64 might be a little more realistic - 40 mps (0.99), not so much). The health is referenced in a few places, including the attributes folder. You can also add a name or change it. I guess that's all trivial information for those who are wondering.
Anyways, works great! Running on LMDE, haven't had any problems.
For those of you that have been waiting for a more powerful search or search and replace, here is a beta release that has most of this functionality added:
Annoying bug:
If you delete a tag, that isn't counted as enough of a action to reenable saving.
Thus, you can make a change and it wont be kept, without you noticing.

Windows or Mac? Are you on the latest version? I cannot reproduce this claim. Can you provide an exact sequence of steps to reproduce?
My philosophy on ads: If I'm not guaranteed to benefit from it and you're not guaranteed to benefit from it, then it's not worth making you sit through an ad.
Psst, PM me if you know any good places to buy computer parts using Bitcoins.

It's possible. There's a variety of tutorials on villager trades on YouTube. Some are for NBTExplorer and some are for NBTedit, but there's almost no difference in the process.
The other suggestion probably wouldn't be bad.

You did not follow directions. You can run .NET "exes" like NBTExplorer on Linux if you install the Mono runtime.
You can't run jars without a Java runtime. You can't run .NET assemblies without Mono.

How urgent? It's a major feature with a lot of moving parts, but I could probably post a beta earlier with some functionality present.

"Replace All" is not implemented, so the button for it is intentionally disabled.
Also included in the beta is byte/int array import and export as text lists or binary blobs.
