Hello, i'm new to maya but from what i've read around the internet, a rig is the easiest way of making models, I've learned most of the basics and my question is:
Is it possible to have multiple models and skins with this rig?
Yes, yes it is possible. All you need to do is go up to file/import and then import the same rig over and over again (how many times you want) and then save it as a new file [MOST important part]. That should work for you - if not, tell me what went wrong.
I can't get rid of the 'bierd', I tried to delete it, but it was covering stuff, I tried to retexture it, but it would always render the same. Why did you make it so apparent he had a beard? Most people who play Minecraft are young children who do not have beards... at least, they shouldn't... Plus, the default texture, to me, looks terrible on rigs, and my new texture looks terrible with the beard.
Short version:
How do I retexture the beard, I changed the color AND replaced the color with a file with the desired color, but the render is still the same!
I have the same problem, when it is re textured and then rendered out in mental ray, it stays a darker shade - unfortunately their really is no way of deleting the beard, but I can try looking for a way if you need me to (probably something I would end up doing anyway in the near future...)
The rig causes a black line across my mental ray render when I use physical sun and sky.
Do you have a way to prevent this?
Could you possibly post a render picture so I can see what you are talking about? I know that mine does that when I render a frame, but that is usually because I have a gray or white plane underneath my rig (as a sort of 'floor'). If that's the issue, you can just fix it by changing the color or adding a texture onto that plane (so easy I can't believe its not butter!)
Hope this helps.
How do I upload the skin to the rig?? what is the [>] button and where is it??
What you want to do is go to the hypershade window (don't remember what tab [one on the top] I don't have Maya in front of me right now) In their you will find a few black circles, one should be similar to the name of the character ***I can take you this far, if you go back to the instructions - Shrogg has two tutorial videos and one of them explains how to do this*** good luck and hope it works.
Yeah, this is because in the small render tab above the screen in which you work on (in Maya) - it is set to default rendering, you can change this to either of the next two tabs and the quality should/will increase. Hope this helps.
I'm in viewport 2.0, but the face is white.. .Any ideas why/how I can fix it?
It can't be fixed, but it still will render out perfectly fine in the final product - just set it to the medium rendering (even though slightly blurry, it should still be manageable)
I have made it in Maya and how do I render/view it?
To View the current scene, at the top of the screen in the middle there are 4 film reels click the midde left one and a screen should pop up in the bottom right.
I managed to get rid of the Beard. After retexturing you'll have to render in Maya Software instead of Mental ray. If you render the character shadows and not the character you can stil use mental ray for your scenery. It took me hours to realize the problem. I tried everything then saw the solution was as simple as clicking a button and changing a setting.
Hey! I downloaded this rig which is very good!
But I have a problem that I want to re-size the eyes which some skins have bigger eyes (e.g. 2x2 pixels), your rig is only for 2x1 pixels.
So how can I adjust the size of the concave part of the eye?
Also, the texture of the arms are reversed which left arm got the right arm's texture and so on.
Hey Guys! I actually decided to try and make my very own Minecraft Steve rig in Autodesk Maya! It doesn't have a texture on it yet, but if I get enough feedback I might aswell add one! Here's the rig! https://dl.dropboxus...76/My Rig v1.ma Have fun and give me your feedback please! (To use it with Maya, select all the text in the ASCII page, and save into a .txt file and rename it into a .ma file!)
Hi Shrogg! i love your rig and its amazing, just what i want, but i don't want the beard, because my skin doesnt have one. i dont know if this is a problem for anyone else but imnew so ya
Ok, I really like the look of this rig I've been looking for a rig

Although I can't get to the download page, the link doesn't seem to work.
Maybe if you can check that out and tell me and I will download it.

I do not know.... I responded to someone else who had the same question, look up a few of my posts to see what I said.

There is nothing you can do except make the environment around the rig bigger
