Wait. So, I'm confused. Does this work with modded biomes?
Sort of...
If the Mod doesn't change the vanilla generation, yes.
If the Mod only changes some stone into a new ore, it doesn't matter.
If the Mod creates new villages, or adds something beyond a few stone blocks to a new ore, then no.
Regardless it will not change the world the Mod created in any way! Open it in 1.8 and compare with known areas.

If you have the seed you can use it, but most servers don't give out the seed for just that purpose, you can map what's around you to find things, or even create the same exact world in single player, use a mapping program like Minutor or Unmined and find the coordinates of everything like temples, villages and diamonds, and just go right to them without the need to explore.

Just to let people know, there is a new version of Amidst in beta testing that, at this posting, seems to be bug free and is now just being "tweeked" for minor features. The latest version is Amidst v4.0beta7.
Because the original programmer, Skidoodle on these forums and skiphs on Github, has not had time to work on the project some others have taken over the task of updating Amidst and merging in the features of the Amidst daughter program AmidstExporter.
Personally I've run both the .exe and the .jar files under Window 10 without any problems as long as I don't select a profile of a modded version of MineCraft. Amidst doesn't even like Optifine.
Amidst 4.0 can map PCMCv 1.9 snapshot worlds and recognizes profiles up through 15w51b and will work with 16w02a although it says it doesn't recognize it.
If a 1.9 profile is selected then layers to display Igloos and End Cities are activated and the predicted locations of the added strongholds are shown.
I or someone else will be starting a new topic on this forum for Amidst 4.0 and above since this thread is getting quite unwieldy IMHO.

You can change your skin in your minecraft/mojang profile you know...
But anyway, you need to have a non-modded profile in your launcher, and you must use that profile when launching amidst. Any modded profiles, like the ones using Forge simply won't work. Just create a new profile in your launcher for some of the Minecraft 1.8 versions if you don't have any vanilla profiles at the moment.
I need help, okay so i created my current world in mincraft around 1.4.7 so my seed is from the old type what version of this do i need to get to use this i downloaded the newest version and i put in my seed and it did not work he biomes were all wrong and spawnpoint was not right and if i try to use if from saves it crashes also i do have my map updated to a current snapshot
Well if your world has areas from multiple minecraft versions, then no version of Amidst can give you an accurate map of _your_ world. Amidst works based on the seed, so it will just give you the biome layout that _would be_ generated in the minecraft version you run it for.
To get a biome map of your particular world would require using a tool that actually scans your world save and generates a map based on that.
I'm not sure if such a tool exists, I haven't looked into it.
You downloaded the newest version of what? Amidst? If so, make sure that you point it at a profile of an UNMODDED copy of Minecraft. Amidst WILL NOT run if pointed at a modded .jar file, even if it's just got Optifine installed.
The last version of PC Minecraft that will produce the same world using your seed is PCMCv1.6.4.
The world generator changed with the release of PCMCv1.7.2.
You should be able to use an unmodded copy of 1.4.7 with Amidst 4.0 but if I were you I'd just go ahead and create a profile for 1.6.4 (with it's own game directory to keep from contaminating older worlds), and run it once to force the loader to down load the 1.6.4 minecraft.jar so Amidst can use it. You don't have to actually create a world in 1.6.4 or play your 1.4.7 world with it if you don't wish to.

The problem with that, Amidst will generate the biomes for the old version of the game, but if neopacheco12 is using a newer or the current version of the game, the biomes will be generated according to the new code, and the biomes won't match. As masa_fi said, there's no utility that will show both. But if neopacheco12 is looking for biomes and structures in the newest version of the game, then that is the one they should be using to map the world to find new stuff.
A utility like Unmined or Minutor will map the current world file as it exists to find features that already exist but might have been missed.
Unless, of course, neopacheco12 is still running the game in the old version, then that's the version they should use to map in Amidst.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
We're talking about two different situations here.
1. What profile to use to accurately produce a biome map of a PCMCv1.4.7 world with Amidst.
and
2. What version of PCMC can be used with the world files of a world created (or last visited) with PCmcv1.4.7 WITHOUT getting new chunks created that are incompatible with the existing chunks.
I'll address #2 first.
When PCMCv1.0.0 was released on Nov. 18, 2011 (the first non-beta version) the Minecraft world generator was changed which caused chunk discontinuities when new chunks are created if a Beta created world was played using the new release.
The world generator was, I think, again changed when Release 1.2.1 came out on March 1, 2012 due to the addition of more biomes.
The world generator DID NOT change again until PCMCv1.7.2 was released on Oct. 25, 2013 and hasn't been changed since then. Even the snapshots for PCMCv1.9 use the same world generator.
Therefore what I said before about using PCMCv1.6.4 to SAFELY play a 1.4.7 world is correct.
As far as Amidst is concerned it will produce an accurate map of a world as long as the profile used to create the world and the profile used for Amidst have the same world generator.
As I keep stressing Amidst will not even run if pointed at a profile that has a modded minecraft.jar and it definitely doesn't work with mods that add new biomes.
Therefore, I stand by what I said before. neopacheco12 should get an accurate biome map of their 1.4.7 world by using Amidst with an unmodded PCMCv1.6.4 profile.
Now, if they have played their 1.4.7 world with one of the new 1.9 snapshots and they have traveled any distance in a direction such that new chunks were created (which wouldn't be the case if they stayed in previously explored territory) then they have a problem.
The current 1.9 snapshots use the world generator released with 1.7.2 and there is a very good chance that any new chunks produced will not match the old chunks either in what biome they are or the y coordinate value of the surface even if the same biome (I think).

Yes, I think we are coming at the same thing from two directions. The main question is, is neopacheco12 still running 1.4.7 or running the latest version of the game? If they are still running 1.4.7, then using Amidst set to 1.4.7 (or equivalent) is the way to go. If the newest version of the game is being run, then there is no way to map the areas that have the old biome layout alongside the areas that will have the new biome layout.
So, if the latest code is used, then the map will not look correct if it is being compared to the terrain generated in the old version, spawn point, village locations, etc will not be correct. It wont match up to the Amidst map until regions are explored that are created in game under the latest code, or whatever version is being run. There will most likely be chunks that don't match at the edges where the new terrain meets the old.

Great to see this being updated again! Finally can find Ocean monuments, Igloos, mineshafts, and the new stronghold locations. I especially like the update player location feature; no more reloading the world to see where I am.
I would like to know how AMIDST determines the center of a mineshaft. What part of the mineshaft are the coordinates displayed in AMIDST?

IIRC, (I could be wrong, it's happened once or twice before.) every abandoned mine has a large room with a dirt floor with mine tunnels radiating from that. Amidst reports the x and z location of that.
The best way to verify that is to choose a seed using Amidst with a mine indicated close to spawn under a plains.(less to dig through)
Switch to peaceful mode to prevent unneeded distractions and give yourself a stack of torches.
Then fly to the x and z coordinates indicated by Amidst, then start breaking blocks straight below you and fly down the shaft made placing torches as needed.
I suggest that you DON'T do this without flying as it's possible to hit lava and you're pretty sure fall when you find the mine.
EDIT: As a matter of fact I just found this seed, "8864976236595596431" to test this.
Using PCMCV1.8.9 I spawned next to a plains village with a church, blacksmith, 2 libraries, and 6 fields near a nice sized ravine.
Amidst 4.0 indicates a mine at -40, 360 which turned out to be under water so I had to fill in the river at that point with dirt.
I then started down.
I emerged in an 8 x 9 dirt floored square room with a domed ceiling 7 meters high at the top where I broke through. The floor is at y=24.
There are tunnels going off in all four directions. One with a spider spawner and another with a lava flow.
