It used to open up fine, but now it just wont open D: I double click it and NOTHING AT ALL happens, i tried JarFix, redownloaded java, running it through command prompt. Nothing D: Please help? It's such a great tool!
That's very strange. Something must have changed for it to suddenly stop working. What happens when you try running it from a command prompt? There must be an error message indicating what goes wrong.
This program is simply amazing and is almost ideal for those who want to make some awesome terrain tailored for their worlds and/or server! Recently, I have been making canvas maps in which I make schematics and later import/export to MCEdit. This program makes the workflow of all my projects and really fluid.
I applaud you for making something so awesome. I would love for you to expand upon the concept of WorldPainter! :biggrin.gif:
no i googled for it and edited it. wish i did though
Do you remember where you found it? I need to get permission from the original creator to use it for my program.
it was uploaded on a free image site, your free to use it with no copyright problems. but if you give me a few days i could try to make something like this for you, minecraft style.

That's up to you, but I already like this image very much! Good to know that it's not restricted by copyright. I might still use this one, so don't spend too much time... ;-)
Well I love the program, and I was bored, so I put this together.
Took about an hour and a half, and It's all personally created content, except the star field which is from a NASA image, so if you want to use it, it's all you. I can make changes as necessary. The world is one of my maps rendered in 3ds max, and the hand my hand. If you want to use it I'll fiddle around with it more tomorrow, add some more shading and shadowing.
That means it can't find the .jar file because you're not specifying the correct path or filename. You should either run the command from inside the directory where the WorldPainter.jar is located, or you should specify the complete path to the WorldPainter.jar file. For instance:

Also awesome! Thank you very much. I definitely want to use it! I don't want to disappoint razer though, and I like his image a lot as well. Perhaps I will use one of your images for the splash screen, and the other for the about/credits screen.
I think I already posted saying how awesome this program is. I wanted to make a few comments.
You mentioned the possibility of importing a map or a schematic using only the surface data. That would be great. Any way to use the tools on an existing map would make this program even better. Even if it were basic, and the non-visible layers were deleted/replaced, that would still be a bonus, and very useful in many situations.
Also, I have a fear that you will implement caverns at some point. If you do please make it optional. Additional air spaces would make some of the things I'm doing with World Painter very difficult or impossible.

I'm afraid caverns are already in... :wink.gif:
It's a layer you have to paint in yourself though, so if you don't want caverns you can just not do that.

By the way, that makes me curious. What are you doing that would be more difficult if there were air spaces? I'd like to see, I always enjoy seeing what people make using my program. :smile.gif:
Sorry about my noobines on these kind of things, but what do i do after i created the .WORLD file?
Use the Export function (in the File menu, or by pressing Ctrl+E). You can export the world directly to your Minecraft saves directory (be careful, the program does not warn you when you overwrite an existing level!), or somewhere else and then move or copy the generated directory to your saves directory. It should then show up in Minecraft under Singleplayer.
Been playing with World Painter today, I must say it's impressive, the ability to sculpt a landscape is something I'd been looking for in Minecraft for a while, and although it's still in development, it's very useable already, and totally intuitive if you have already used landscape generation software before, such as Terragen.
Talking of which, I notice someone already mentioned heightmap importation, is this a possibility? Because I for one would love to see the ability to use a Terragen heightmap, or something similar, to produce a Minecraft map. Obviously there would have to be certain restrictions on format, height range and things like that, but if it was an option, well, wow :smile.gif:
That's AWESOME! Thank you very much. That's exactly the kind of thing I wanted for a splash screen. Did you create that image?

As heightmaps, you mean, or do you mean something else?

Yes, importing height maps will definitely happen in the near to medium future!
