Minecraft Land Generator version 1.4.4
Uses a Minecraft server to generate square land of a specified size.
The server directory is invalid: -v
rm: cannot remove `server.log\r': No such file or directory
All the files are in the root bukkit directory, so serverpath=. should find the server, but it doesn't.
EDIT: Ok I found the problem. I had a 'nogui' missing, and running *.sh doesn't work, I have to type the command in terminal.
But now I have a new problem, when MLG first runs the server to check for a world, it doesn't close the server and continue... It just sits there.

Thanks for your prompt reply! And usually whenever I come across jagged barriers in my world, I add some kind of humorous landmark, like, "The Cliffs at Chunk Error" or "Seed-Change Mountains".
You developed this thing, right? I'm a new Java developer, very nearly a computer science grad. Mostly I've done automated functional testing for websites, but I'd like to try my hand at developing plugins for Bukkit servers and some neat utilities like this one. Have any advice?
yes/no. Most of the credit goes to corrodias, as he created the original program. I've just kept it up to date and added new features.
find something you are interested in, see if anyone else has done it.
if so, decide to help their project (if they let you) or make your own.
there are tons of tools and example code out there to help if you need it. the one place you might expect help, this forum, wont help much with actual coding.
When I run Land Generator it seems to go through all the steps but never generates chunks even though it says "Finished Generating Chunks". See below for a screenshot:
Any idea why this could be? My friend ran it with the same world on a 64-bit Windows 7 system (with the configuration modified for that setup) and pretty much had the same thing happen.
Thanks!
this is easy.
bukkit (with any server wrapper like MLG) requires "-Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal -Duser.language=en"
oh, and why are you only generating 150x150? try something larger like 1000x1000. running the server once creates 400x400 blocks - so if you run MLG with 150 it wont do anything unless no chunks exist.

interesting.
first, I've never tested Java 1.7 - it has significant changes compared to 1.6.

before adding optimization, make sure it works normally!
i changed -server to -client (forcing -client has fixed some issues)
Hmmm.... I'll have to compare the code for 1.3 and 1.4.4... There shouldn't be much difference.
oh, btw, what version of Linux?
I've tried that already. I added the -client/-server and the gc separately after it wouldn't work normally.
I tried it again anyway, same results- it just sits there and doesn't close the server to move on to the next iteration.

Well, I must admit, I slightly understood what to use for the .conf a month ago when I last used this tool. At the time, I thought a 7500, 7500 sized map would be enough; it wasn't. However, I can't get this to run through biometerrain.jar like last time. it'll show that its going through and spawning at each section, but it isn't actually doing such. So, as someone with near zero java exposure, and no server owners to ask for help, I must ask here; What exactly should I put in .conf to have MLG use biometerrain.jar when it is generating more land on a map? Or is it not the .conf at all and I'm just horrible at this?

I genned a map with it and it's twice the size (MB) of a same sized map from 1.4, why is this? from 450mb to about 1gig on a 5000x5000 map
what's the DIM-1 folder? do I need that after generating the map?
DIM-1 is the Nether. It has its own map files, the same size as the world. (actually i think it gets generated slightly bigger, i haven't really checked it out.) since Beta 1.6 now supports the nether, it generates the nether when launching the server. i haven't found a way to disable it yet.
anyways there is your answer.
when minecraft has the new sky world added (probably as DIM-2) it will have its own files, thus your save file will be even bigger for the same size world.
...just be glad Notch switched from the old format to the McRegion format - that saved a lot a space!

I generated a world that was 2000x2000 and I'm seeing something similar to the old chunk errors. The problem where there is a hole
in the map all the way through to the bottom. This seems to be a little different. Lava and water seems to flow into the error area.
I also can't fall into the hole like I use to be able to. Could this be a lighting related problem? I processed the map through mcdungeon
which is suppose to relight the map but still saw some black blocks. The chunk errors are in both versions of the map. The errors
also seem to happen at a regular distance at a diagonal from spawn. I head NW from the spawn and probably a few hundred blocks away they start to appear.

well, i have had a couple thousand downloads.
did you check out the map before you used MCdungeon? I'd guess there is a bug in MCdungeon, as I've never seen anything like this. btw, how big is the hole? is it perfect 16x16 square? if so, then its a chunk error. (yes, chunks still exist, there are just 1024 of them in a region file) if its not a prefect 16x16 square, then its either a bug in MCdungeon or something is up with Minecraft and your seed.
oh, and i highly doubt that MCdungeon relights the entire map, it probably only relights the chunks it modified. Use MCEDIT to relight the entire map.
another question, are you using the current 1.6.6 vanilla server with MLG, or something else? also, are you playing on this map in single player or multiplayer?
one idea: delete the .mcr region files and regenerate - then we can see if it is persistent or just a file error.

-did you check out the map before you used MCdungeon?
Yes it still had the chunk errors.
-how big is the hole?
They vary in size a little. Some are 16x16. Some are 16x32. It's a little odd though because some parts of the chunk appear. Like a random rectangle will
jut out of the side of the pit. I've never seen that before.
Using 1.6.6 vanilla with MLG. Playing this on multiplayer.
I'm going to regen the map with the same seed this weekend and take a look at it before running MLG on it. I've been having trouble with mcedit relighting the entire map. It just seems to hang on my mac. I have to try it on my windows machine. Any idea how long it takes to relight a map?
I think I found my problem. The seed was removed from server.properties at some point and I think that caused the chunk errors. I regened the map and it seems fine now.

yep, sounds like they were just corrupt chunks. glad it works now. have fun!

Ahem. Sorry if this was already answered, but does this work with 1.6.6 generated maps? I used to use this for my older maps and I loved it.
EDIT:
Ah, sorry! Should've read the readme better.
Yep. Even if I stop updating it right now, you should be able to use it on any future or past version, because you can configure every possible setting and text that the server outputs.
Thats the goal of future proofing.
Oh, and I checked out how the newest version of bukkit (with multiworld) works.
using MLG on multiverse worlds is like before - needs to be run seperately from the main world.
on the main world regular rules apply. Except: the main world and the nether are saved in different folders. Like: "world" and "world_nether"
so when switching between vanilla and bukkit you need to do some file moving.

GOGOGOUPDATE!
Well, I must admit I would have never thought it'd be that simple. It is working now though, so huzzah!
for anyone that is interested, i have uploaded a completely untested version of 1.5.0.
i need to go to sleep now, but i wanted to upload my new code.
Its only at github.
it has "-alt" to go back to the way 1.3.0 worked
and a lot of new 1.6 related stuff.
it should auto-update your config file, but if not, just run "-conf" to generate a new one.
so, if you are having problems with 1.4.4, try this (including "-alt")
I'll test it myself tomorrow, and then release a final version.
(i had waited on releasing 1.4.5 for a few days because i was waiting on Beta 1.6 - and i'm glad i did!)
ok, dont download it. it has a major bug. I'll fix it tonight

EDIT:
