I tried this and it works fine inside the pre-generated area, but as soon as I leave the area and new chunks start generating it seems Biome is no longer in effect. I tried with an obvious Biome setting of all desert and as soon as I reach the borders of my 100x100 pre-generated test area I see grassy and even snowy terrain being generated.
EDIT: Not sure if this is caused by LandGenerator or Biome, as both claim to have problems/incompatibility with Bukkit.
I suggest waiting for the SMP/Bukkit update of Biome that R-T-B has mentioned will come on Wednesday (Apr 20) or pre-generating an area large enough that you or your users will never reach the borders (preferabily using a border-plugin such as BorderGuard or WorldGuard).
As for the Djline tag, yes, i just found that out via the Bukkit Forums. The Djline fix works on most computers. But again, I run into the WinXP 32bit issue. So for the past few days I've been coding a potential fix. I'll have access to a XP machine tomorrow, so I can test it then. I have gotten this alternate code to work successfully in some tests (not on XP however, as I don't have it at the moment)
Anyways... Well how are you testing it? SMP? Bukkit? Single Player?
Because if you generate a map using Biome + Bukkit, then you need to play it on a Biome + Bukkit Server for it to auto generate the same map once you get past the boundaries that MLG used.
(Thats kinda the point of MLG - Pregenerating Terrain)
You use the same config files and launch commands that you use with MLG.

Minecraft Land Generator | Memory issues? Try this:java -Xincgc-Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar Minecraft.jar "We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
damn it. There are only 2 ways (that i know of) to run a program from Java. Both fail in Windows XP 32bit.
(I'm referring to: processbuilder and runtime.exec)
well... Time to think...
I want to release a new version, but I want it to work on all platforms!

I'm no Java expert, but I suspect you can call the class loader to load Minecraft.jar & friends and run it in-process.
Is there a way to run this in SSP mode? The Biomes Terrain Generator is only working in SSP mode and this seems to only support Minecraft_Server which is SMP. All I'm trying to do is create a auto-generated biome map. Is there a simple fix to this?

No, it doesn't run in SSP mode. If you are refering to biome terrain mod, there is a SMP version. And that works.

I am facing the same problem
If you ever find a way to do it, PM me.
Probably when biomes mod is updated for SMP.
Check out Biome Terrain Mod.
It works with SSP and SMP (Thus it will work with MLG). you can then use the resulting map on SSP or SMP.

MLG 1.3.0 (and also my current unreleased code 1.3.2) works just fine with Beta 1.5!

The SSP version is the only working version right now. If you look at his downloads page everything but the SSP is working.

Ahh... *reads BTM forum* I see... He took down the links because they didn't work with 1.4. Now that 1.5 is out, just wait for a new version.
Take a look at this post, as it contains a link to a zip file with 1.3, and a older version of BTM. It also has a settings file to make an island-based world.
hope this helps.
I dont develop BTM. I'm not in contact with the author. I just try to support all versions of Minecraft servers/mods. (and MLG does support almost everything.)

This seems to only happen if I upload the world to my server and log on, but in SSP it's fine.
Is there anyway I can fix this?
you could try relighting... (with MCEDIT) but it looks like the biome borders are messed up. That would be a biome terrain mod issue - some versions have major issues with MLG. (Issues with terrain not syncing on the edges between sever restarts) Try the link I posted earlier with a compatible version.

Для продолжения нажмите любую клавишу . . .
First: with bukkit you need the Djline tag.
-Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal
Second: I would also recommend that you force java to use English:
-Duser.language=en
(I saw this: "Для продолжения нажмите любую клавишу " at the end, so i"m assuming you are not using English!) this is just so we make sure everything works as expected.
So your config file will look like this, as an example:
Third: You will most likely have issues running bukkit with MLG on Windows XP (unless its 64bit XP). I would use a computer running a newer version of windows or linux or even a mac.
Java has some rare but serious issues with XP 32 bit. (So rare, that the only fix I can find from hours of google searching is to just use a different OS!)
(This XP bug is something I'm currently working on fixing)
Anyways, about the error you are getting on the SMP server - looks like a signature issue maybe? Try removing META-INF from minecraft_server.jar. also make sure it runs correctly before trying to use MLG on it.
Also, there are multiple versions of biome terrain mod, so make sure the bukkit version is on the bukkit server and the SMP is on the SMP server.

should question any java?
or do you have another solution?
I've been trying to generate a world on 32 bit xp for a while and am repeatedly encountering what's either a bug or me doing something wrong, and I'd just like to know because it's driving me a bit crazy. This is a long post, but it's that way because I'd like to answer as many questions as possible in advance that otherwise might get asked of me. Please do not answer this or ask questions of me without reading the whole post.
I'm running the vanilla server, I downloaded the latest version of Java about 2 days ago.
I made sure to add the most recent version of minecraft.jar that could be acquired, I grabbed it just a few hours ago.
I am NOT running Bukkit or any other mods, and I am not trying to use this with the biome modifier.
My .conf looks like this. Remember, I'm XP32, so I am NOT using nogui. (Also, I tried using the .exe, and various optimized versions, same results):
Regardless of whether I run it using cmd manually or whether I use the .cmd file included in the vanilla server, the same thing always happens. It starts off seeming pretty normal.
It will always say (with the timestamps obviously changing depending on time):
Launching server once to make sure that there is a world.
Starting server.

2011-04-24 07:3922 [INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
Still so far nothing seems wrong, it goes ahead and pops up the GUI for the server and it says
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version Beta 1.5_02
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
...Except the GUI cannot be moved, clicked on, typed in, or interacted with in any way. It seems to be doing nothing. Even when allowed to sit for many minutes/hours/etc., there is no activity of any kind, whether it be new text in the command prompt or GUI, or even size changes to the world folder. However, whenever I force the GUI to close, often after waiting very long periods of time just to be safe, even with small sizes such as 750 750 or 900 900, (reports not responding, forced to end,) the command-line prompt states:
Backing up level.dat to level_backup.dat
Spawn point detected: [233, 371]
Setting spawn to [267, -129] (1/16)
(then the same as last, except timestamps and the "launching once" bit, of course)
Now to be perfectly clear, yet again the GUI will immediately pop back up,and I can sit here at this point for several hours with no change. The spawn-coordinates will only be advanced to a new location if I manually force the server GUI to close again. And what's really baffling is that if I do this the full number of times, it will state that the program is finished, but no change will be made to the world whatsoever.
However, if I close the command prompt at some point instead(say, right after the point just listed above) the GUI version of the server will suddenly kick in and become functional, mentioning that it is generating the spawn at whatever coordinates were left off at, and none of the previous or subsequent ones. If I close the GUI version many times, then close the command prompt, it will obviously generate just one section completely disjointed from the original (as can be viewed by cartograph-g)
I presume that it's not normal/intended to have to close the gui and force the prompt to close dozens upon dozens of times when running under XP, just to generate a very small area. However, despite reading every post I can and having read the documentation several times I can't seem to find any reference of anyone else having this issue or a solution to it. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious, and if I am, please forgive me, but I've been trying quite hard to solve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

should question any java?
or do you have another solution?
Hmm...
First, java 1.5 will not work, as I've built it in java 1.6.
question: does your server work when not running it through MLG?
if you ran:

wow, i've never seen the XP glitch with the GUi. I understand the glitch you have perfectly, as it is the same glitch that happens with most XP computers that try to run using NOGUI.
My fix is simple, since you are just using the vanilla server:
use the Minecraft_Server.exe
Unfortunatly, unless i can figure out a way to get XP working, you will have to use another operating system to run MLG if you want to use any server.jar's - like mods for example.
use this config file:
java=Minecraft_Server.exe
serverpath=.
now, i know you said you used the .exe, but I have to ask if you used it like this... Using the .exe is the last ditch effort. if it doesnt work. then nothing will. (I could send you a link to my alternate code, but it hasnt had good results on xp either.)
My only suggestion would be to use another computer/OS. If you dont have another computer, download a Linux Live CD (I suggest Ubuntu), burn it, and boot it without installing. (or install if you wish) you can then find your files, and run MLG. when its done, reboot back to windows.

I'm almost done with 1.4.0 (Code is not released on github yet, but will be when done.)
It has a lot of new code to help future proof it, and more configuration options.
The only thing it will lack is full Win Xp 32bit support. Thats a tough one, and is a limitation to java on Windows XP, not MLG itself.

"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
(I'm referring to: processbuilder and runtime.exec)
well... Time to think...
I want to release a new version, but I want it to work on all platforms!
"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
I'm no Java expert, but I suspect you can call the class loader to load Minecraft.jar & friends and run it in-process.
"We will absolutely not keep in mind what external mapeditors will have to do to read data from the disk, that makes no sense whatsoever." - Grum
No, it doesn't run in SSP mode. If you are refering to biome terrain mod, there is a SMP version. And that works.
Interesting... i'll look into that... thanks for the idea!
"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
Check out Biome Terrain Mod.
It works with SSP and SMP (Thus it will work with MLG). you can then use the resulting map on SSP or SMP.
"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
"We must be that generation that stands athwart history yelling: 'Hey, jackass, get your government off my freedom!'" - Jason Mattera
Your work is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the helpful link. You do more than one can ask for this community.
This seems to only happen if I upload the world to my server and log on, but in SSP it's fine.
Is there anyway I can fix this?
Windows XP SP3, java version "1.6.0_24"
craftbukkit 670 +BiomeTerrain 30RC4+MinecraftLandGenerator1.3
MinecraftLandGenerator.conf
Run_MLG_(Windows).cmd
minecraft_server +BiomeTerrain 30RC4+MinecraftLandGenerator1.3
MinecraftLandGenerator.conf
Run_MLG_(Windows).cmd
Awesome! btw, Windows is the only OS that uses ; all others use :
you could try relighting... (with MCEDIT) but it looks like the biome borders are messed up. That would be a biome terrain mod issue - some versions have major issues with MLG. (Issues with terrain not syncing on the edges between sever restarts) Try the link I posted earlier with a compatible version.
First: with bukkit you need the Djline tag.
Second: I would also recommend that you force java to use English:
Also, there are multiple versions of biome terrain mod, so make sure the bukkit version is on the bukkit server and the SMP is on the SMP server.

or do you have another solution?
MinecraftLandGenerator.conf
Run_MLG_(Windows).bat
preparing not finished, but seems to work
I'm running the vanilla server, I downloaded the latest version of Java about 2 days ago.
Still so far nothing seems wrong, it goes ahead and pops up the GUI for the server and it says
...Except the GUI cannot be moved, clicked on, typed in, or interacted with in any way.
Hmm...
First, java 1.5 will not work, as I've built it in java 1.6.
question: does your server work when not running it through MLG?
if you ran: at the command line, does it load properly?
if so, then we have a problem with MLG. if not, then you have a problem with your server.
Hmmm... try replaceing "java" in the .bat file and the config file with this: (32bit java on a 64bit computer)
config:
batch file:
wow, i've never seen the XP glitch with the GUi. I understand the glitch you have perfectly, as it is the same glitch that happens with most XP computers that try to run using NOGUI.
My fix is simple, since you are just using the vanilla server:
use the Minecraft_Server.exe
Unfortunatly, unless i can figure out a way to get XP working, you will have to use another operating system to run MLG if you want to use any server.jar's - like mods for example.
use this config file:
now, i know you said you used the .exe, but I have to ask if you used it like this...

It has a lot of new code to help future proof it, and more configuration options.
The only thing it will lack is full Win Xp 32bit support. Thats a tough one, and is a limitation to java on Windows XP, not MLG itself.

Great news!
