Getting an error when trying to upload my map :sad.gif:
I think this is related to the request for authentication that appears. Re-enter the username and password that I sent you in the credentials box that appears. I think flash gets confused and doesn't know that you're already authenticated.
I realize this is confusing but it's only going to be there during the beta period.
Just for clarification: I would take my world map files (I have some massive SMP world map files from my server) and upload them to your site, or would I take a pre-rendered map and upload it?
Thanks, and as I said above, I'd love to check this site out and contribute to it's uprising!
Yea, I'll help on this. I can provide daily updates to the map I'd be uploading ^^
This is an interesting point. Currently the beta does not allow for updates to the maps although this is something that I have on this list. So, I guess my question is:
When you upload a new copy of a map should it overwrite the previous version or would it be worthwhile to retain each version that is uploaded?
It may not make sense from a space requirement standpoint to keep all versions of a map as that could get out of hand quickly...
Suggestions from all are welcome
I'd say no. Have new copies overwrite old copies of a map. If an old copy is worth saving, there should be a "Rename File" option where the uploader can rename the "Saved" version of the map and continue updating.

<3 this is what i've always wanted... plz sign me up :smile.gif:
PLUS: with the addition of "map seeds" you could make a section for sharing map seeds. (of course, there wouldn't be a preview, just maybe screenshots, but i still think it would be cool)

PM sent. You upload an archive of your save file and the map will be generated on the server for you. This way other people can download the world for loading into minecraft so they can try it out and play :smile.gif:

PM Sent. I've thought about the new feature of seeds and how to implement it. I'm thinking of automatically pulling the seed out of level.dat when you upload the world so that the seed can be displayed if people decide to start a new world based on the preview.
Yes, Please! This is an awesome idea! Why not include a space to put the World Generator Seeds used on the map or that you know? Mention this to :Notch:!
Hey skeight, i have some sort of a request...
Could you allow us to comment on the download pages?
imo Thats the only thing missing about this awesome site of awesomeness.
Totally agreed. Thats one of my biggest factors in if i download something or not: the peoples feedback. Also, only one preview map loaded for me, from the map posted by skeight. Is this just a bug for me, or is anyone else noticing this?

Good idea. I'll add this to the list for the full version.

This isn't a bug. I don't have the automated map generation daemon running during the beta. I'm not sure what will happen with larger maps, etc. I am running them manually / debugging at the same time so the maps are getting generated, just slowly... There are a few more that are posted now though.
One feature I would hope to see added is the ability to add albums of screenshots with captions to each world uploaded to supplement the world preview screenshot. This would allow players to highlight the landmarks and other points of interest or give guided tours of their world (sort of like a travel brochure :smile.gif: ). If you could add that, that would be awesome.
PM sent. Almost at the point where I'm full, but you're in! :smile.gif:
Edit: Offtopic, but these post-count titles are awesome. :tongue.gif:
this is so
I think it should just overwrite the old map. If a user needs old versions of their maps they can retain their own old versions.. IMO
Uploading my map now btw :biggrin.gif:
