Alright, I really need help, I am not able to get this running, and I am running through the cmd window, it opens and closes regardless of the parameters I use.
I want to wipe out all the chunks except the one my village is in, and respawn in redstone into the world, as for some reason with all the mods I have its is completely missing from the world. I have tried the following, as well as several other folder directories.
E:\nbtk2\nbtoolkit oregen help
E:\nbtk2\nbtoolkit
Both just make the launch cmd window run for a second then goes away. What am I doing wrong?
I also tried E:\nbtk2>nbtoolkit oregen help
and that just gives message saying access denied, and yes I am admin.
That's strange. I don't really know what's going on. It should run inside the cmd window that you have open. You should be able to run "nbtoolkit help purge" or "nbtoolkit help oregen" to get respective usages for those commands. Is your .NET framework working correctly? Can you run other programs like NBTedit or NBTExplorer?

Yes I have actually been using NBTedit for a while now, and my .NET is current I have several other programs that require it as well.
I tried the commands as you listed them, using the following strings;
E:\nbtk2>nbtoolkit help oregen <-- Says Access is denied
and
E:\nbtk2\nbtoolkit help oregen <-- Launches a cmd window for a second then dissapears
You can try this:
C:\>cmd /K nbtoolkit.exe help oregen
This will force it to launch in a new cmd instance that won't close. The new instance may re-use your current cmd window, you can tell by the title of the cmd window. That might allow you to see what's being output, or it may just launch a third console that quits instantly. You can also try running it from the run prompt (Win+R), making sure you specify the full path to NBToolkit.exe.
Failing that, like I said previously, I don't really know what's going on. There's not enough information. If you can do more investigative digging then I might be able to help. I can suggest a few alternatives to try and run the program, but they all involve some work on your part:
- Install Visual C# Express (if you don't already have VS), download the NBToolkit source, open the project, and run it in debug mode with your arguments entered into the debug properties page.
- Install the Mono runtime and try running the program through Mono (something like mono nbtoolkit.exe ... on the command line).
- Run it through Mono on a Linux virtual machine.
I seem to be getting a small error when using your oregen tool. Long story short, I am wanting to add a modded ore to the current world, but it displays an error when I enter the following command through cmd prompt:
NBToolkit is in the same directory, and so is the world.
The following error appears:
Unhandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at NBToolkit.Oregen.Run()
at NBToolkit.Program.Main(String[] args)
Any idea what is going on here? :/
EDIT: Wait a minute... Instead of using the world file's name, I was supposed to type the directory instead. My bad XD
I'd like to bring this to the top. This is a fantastic project.
I'd like to also dive into a specific aspect of the project, and would wonder if there's interest with anyone in providing an easy way of upgrading maps? I know months ago I contacted jaquadro about my server at the time attempting to upgrade from Feed The Beast (FTB) MindCrack 1.4.7 to the newest FTB modpack (undecided which one specifically will be used).
I was wondering if we could implement a map upgrade utility, perhaps as a collaborative/team venture, if desired? I would be more than happy to contribute however possible.
I don't have time to put into working on this, beyond fixing issues in the present set of tools.
If you have an idea of something to add, you're welcome to dive in. I can give some general guidance and answer questions. You're welcome to either fork off a new tool, or submit a pull request with new functionality. Due to the "tool box" nature there's a pretty wide net for what would be acceptable.
1. Does anyone use this on a mac, and what do I need to do to get this to install? I don't use X windows, and trying to pull in Mono from macports wants to pull in the entire X server system (which is a lot more disk space than I want to use, not to mention a very slow startup).
2. What are the limitations/"Dangers" in a 1.7.10 world with this?
3. Echoing from September, if I were to use this on an existing world, assuming I'm using Gany's overworld mod:
Does anyone have settings that replicate the placement of the new 1.8 stone variants? Thanks in advance
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
1. Does http://www.mono-project.com/download/ not work? Or does it require crazy deps? Unlike NBTExplorer, this is not built against MonoMac/Xamarin. It's a pure console .NET project, and it should require only a subset of all the available Mono packages.
2. I don't know of any. Anvil hasn't changed since it was introduced, and I don't know any existing problems with its implementation in Substrate. I haven't tested the tool in a long while though, so if it's trying to load the level file along with the world, load-verification might fail. If that's the case I need to update Substrate (and banish that whole verify thing that dates back to Minecraft Alpha).
3. Here's some data right out of the 1.8 source. Count corresponds with rounds and the rest have a clear equivalent with oregen flags. They generate like dirt and most ores.
public int graniteSize = 33;
public int graniteCount = 10;
public int graniteMinHeight = 0;
public int graniteMaxHeight = 80;
public int dioriteSize = 33;
public int dioriteCount = 10;
public int dioriteMinHeight = 0;
public int dioriteMaxHeight = 80;
public int andesiteSize = 33;
public int andesiteCount = 10;
public int andesiteMinHeight = 0;
public int andesiteMaxHeight = 80;
nbtoolkit replace -w "(path)" -a 00 -d 35:5
and
nbtoolkit replace -w "(path)" -a 00 -d 35
Neither one works (I'm guessing obviously). Can someone help me correct my command line?
Use 'nbtoolkit help replace' to get all the options and command usage.

ive seen this issue before with blockpopulators.. it just doesn't always call your code..
i tried this tool on linux and it worked perfectly
thank you very much for making and maintaining it and for open sourcing it, your work is appreciated
