GRR!!!!! Seems epic... but with bugs.
This issue is related to the rendering engine itself. Bugs like this are worked out with every release. I will try my best to locate this bug, but my suggestion is to play around with the setting. Try setting Color Depth to 16 and turn Antialiasing off.
Exception while trying to create drawing surface!

This issue has been noted and a fix is in the works. In the mean time, play around with Antialiasing, Color Depth, and Alpha Bits.
I got the same ARB error with antialiasing set to 4 but it went away when I set it to 0. Unfortunately, once it starts rendering the individual the process seems to stall a couple hundred pieces in and the entire interface becomes unresponsive, requiring a trip to the task manager to kill it. This seems to be the case whether I'm running it on my primary 25 MB world or a brand new 1.X MB world.
I'm running:
Win7 64 bit
32 bit Java
EVGA NVidia GTX 470
8 GB RAM
Actually, here's the printout from within Minetographer:
OS Name: Windows 7
OS Architecture: x86
OS Version: 6.1
Java vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java version: 1.6.0_23
Awt toolkit: sun.awt.windows.WToolkit
Headless?: null
Seems like an awesome implementation and I can't wait to get it working!
This issue has been noted and a fix is in the works. In the mean time, play around with Antialiasing, Color Depth, and Alpha Bits.
On a side note; If you have a 64 bit OS, I suggest having a 64 bit JRE. Minetographer runs much better in a 64 bit environment. :]
I managed to render my current map, but it does take a while. Is there anything we can do to improve the rendering times a bit?
Thanks again!
The following settings will give you the quickest possible render times while still getting great results.
Alpha Bits = 0 (off)
Color Depth = 16
Antialiasing = 0 (off)
Camera Zoom = 36
Zoom levels = 8 (default)
Cache = True (default)
Tile Size = 512 (default)
It is important to note that the first render will always take a bit of time, but every consecutive render beyond the first will only render tiles that have changed. Therefore taking much less time.
I don't even get an error. It gives me an all grey loading screen for less than half a second, then that disappears and nothing happens. The process, whatever it's called, is gone too. I hate to be unhelpful, but that's pretty much all I can give you.
Oh, right. I'm doing this on Windows 7. What should I make sure I have to run this program?

It sounds like the 'lib' folder that came with Minetographer is not in the same directory as Minetographer.exe.

This is caused by Minetographer not being able to find certain minecraft data files. Try updating Minecraft, then look to see if the file ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar actually exists.
If the file does not exist, then the issue is with Minecraft and i suggest deleting the bin folder at ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/ and re-running Minecraft and signing in. Minecraft will then rebuild the bin folder.

Can someone tell me how long it take to create an image and what size their world is? I couldn't tell if it was working or not but I gave up after about an hour when trying to map a 29MB world.

After running the program, it appears as though it recognises that I have the appropriate data saved and appears to run with no errors. However it takes less than a couple of seconds to finish. when i look at the log it says 0 tiles to output and 0chunks discovered. All the values appear to be at 0, hence the short run time.
Obviously I'm missing something here or doing something wrong. Some assistance would be much appreciated.
OS: Win7 64
Few mods installed:
Better light
Biome terrain
Better grass
Simple map
Mo creatures
Battle towers (rarity patch)
My immediate guess is that some mod is interfering. But I won't jump to that conclusion.
Are you rendering one of your worlds from the Minecraft saves folder, or are you rendering a manually selected map?

Nope, it's very well there. No, I'm not running it from the zip either.
Keep running me down the list!

Did you install any mods?
Sorry about that, I must have jumped over it will all the code logs! Thanks!
I know its a long time, but the first render is the only time it should take that long. Understand that there is A LOT of data to parse.

I would try disabling all the mods and trying it.
