MCNostalgia has worked great! However, I'm trying to get minecraft back to updating automatically. I'm on a mac and tried to uninstall Python, but a application in the folder named 'Build Applet' will not empty in the trash. It says the application is still in use, is there any way I can terminate it? I think this is the file keeping minecraft from updating..?

Use what ever Mac's version of Task Manager is to find its process's name and terminate it.
Or just restart your computer.

Thanks! I was able to delete it. But... Minecraft still isn't updating itself. I've tried uninstalling it and re-downloading afterwords but it always goes back to 1.0.0. Is there something I need to do to get it updating again?
great tool, but if you want some special version it wont be showing up in the list, as the command tool keeps scrolling down.
maybe add some GUI in a future version.
by now, i solved the problem by just deleting most of the patch files and leaving those i want (of course i made a backup of the other files before :wink.gif: )

Is it just the fact that is stops in the middle of downloading it and "stalls" up?
step one: to update it to 1.1, you will have to delete the folders "bin" and "resources".
the minecraft launcher then will recognize its empty or nonexistent and download the current most recent version.
step two: after having done that, you can use MCNostalgia to downgrade to whatever version you want.
if you'd ever feel uncomfortable with your version and want to change again, you should use step one to reset to the most recent version.

I am confused what version of Minecraft should I have installed for the patcher?
this is a downgrade patcher and you should have the most recent version installed.
at the moment that would be 1.1.0 (which you get using "step one" of what i wrote).
if you got that version, you use mcnostalgia to downgrade to the version you need (i guess for some mod).
i tried dowgrading with a modded version and it prompted me to use a not modified version.
i hope i could help and you get it working :wink.gif:
*edit*stupid connection screwed my post - had to edit it.
I predict that one of the next five posts will be a request for someone to update this.
i dont get it :blink.gif:
ok, to not get frustrated about "teaching" i need to keep up some sort of sarcasm. no ofence meant.
first 1. step: delete bin and ressources and start minecraft launcher to get a vanilla absolutely original unchanged pure minecraft.jar and some other small files.
second 2. steep: if you want another version but the most recent official release, use mcnostalgia and downgrade.
third 3.steeep, which is optional, so noone will ever force you or your parents to do so: install modloader into the minecraft.jar, delete meta-inf in minecraft.jar, install mods.
i hope this was of help, because i just woke up 20 minutes ago and havent had any sugar with milk and coffee yet :biggrin.gif:
YOUR not aloud to give out jars only Notch can cause he has a copyright on it and can still make money on them some time later
He's only distributing the DIFFERENCES between versions of MC, as in WHAT MAKES Minecraft 1.0.0 DIFFERENT from Minecraft 1.1, NOT Minecraft 1.0.0 as compared to Minecraft 1.1.

i still dont get, why people act up so strange about this - if notch would be against tools like MCNostalgia, he would act up against them (with a lawsuit if other actions dont give the wanted reaction).
so this is 100%legal and people should please stop complaining.
:unsure.gif: will this mess up my computer or my minecraft? :huh.gif: :blink.gif: :unsure.gif:
this wont mess up your computer, but it will change your minecraft to an outdated version.
this means you'll be unable to play with people who are using the most recent version.
You extract all the .ptch files into MCNostalgia's "bin" folder.

Nope. There's no stall during the download. And no stall during minecraft's boot-up when it auto-checks for updates. It just stays 1.0.0
Did you do a force update?

Edit: I have a completely fresh Minecraft and it says I do not during the installation.
