It's an MSI installer, not an exe installer. I'm not sure if your problem is you were looking for an exe, but someone also said on rare occasions windows updates break the MSI file association.
As stated in the first post, this requires the latest version of Minecraft, 1.1_02, and a fresh, clean copy of it. Unmodded, not even texture packs.
No texture packs as in remove the stuff in the texture pack folder? besides that i can back up my minecraft w/ mods then delete the version file to get a clean copy right?

Check out my Youtube Channel! http://www.youtube.com/user/EiDeHua Right now I'm doing a let's play of Sleeping Dogs! Working on updating my Luck's Edge mod, a LOT of new content! Also I've got another mod idea in mind! -Updated 8/16/12
Updated MCBackup, fixed it showing passwords if you gave it bad login info, and switched from httplib to urllib2. I don't know why I didn't use urllib/urllib2, I guess I was just lazy.
Right click on the script, click edit in IDLE, then hit F5. This will run the script in IDLE's(the python code tool) window, and show you any error. Post the error here.
Is there anything I can do so that I can make a shortcut on my Windows 7 taskbar to run the MCBackup.py utility?
When I create a shortcut on my taskbar, it simply opens python and prompts me to type in 'help'. If I run the same shortcut in the folder where Minecraft.exe is at, then it's fine and opens minecraft.
Hrmm...when I create a shortcut to MCBackup, or any of the scripts, by using the send to>desktop in the right click menu, it works. I am also on Windows 7.
Hmm, it seems to be working. It found your version file, it appears to have backed up the files without any issues, and then it appears it have patched the files without any issues. The unpatcher also appears to have run perfectly fine with no issues.
Well then I don't understand.I put the Alpha 1.2.6 files into the Patcher folder, then I launch the app, press 1,wait until it says "Press ENTER to continue",do so,and then quit by pressing 5.Then,I launch my Minecraft, log in,and it gets stuck on the updating screen with 99% done and saying "done loading".The same thing happens if I play in offline mode.
This is exactly what happens to me, even on a fresh download of Minecraft.

Yah, works on the desktop, but not if I put it on the windows 7 taskbar
So I took the 1.2.6 ptch files into me folder and MCNostalgia. I ran Patch and it I pressed enter to continue. I exited it, opened MineCraft, still beta... is it meant to still say Beta at the top?
Make sure you play offline. Do NOT put in your password.

It will work online, it doesn't require playing offline, as it doesn't change the version file, which is what Minecraft uses to check if you have the latest version.

No, it shouldn't say beta at the top, something went wrong. Paste the logs here, if you will kindly.

Would you kindly do as I asked the above person, and paste the logs?

Hmm...that's an issue with Windows 7, it actually runs the program from that location(the start menu), rather than making a shortcut that runs it from the location of the file. A simple workaround would be making a shortcut, then pinning that shortcut to the start menu. Or you could place the shortcut in the all programs section of the start menu using this directory: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"

There's your issue. It can't find the files to patch. Make sure those files are in C:/Users/Stewart/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin will you?
EDIT: Got it working, but when I started my game this came up:

put more craft, less mine. Craftmine, nope still not enough... Craftcraftcraftmine... perfect!
Patches have been updated. I was also able to retrieve survivaltest off my parents' computer, however, it, like indev, requires a bit of work to get working, so I haven't included it yet.

What version of Python did you install? The script is written for 2.7, not 3.x
