I had this problem at school as well. The problem is that when minecraft tries to contact with the server, the school firewall completely messes it up. I solved the problem by downloading a proxy program and rerouting all internet traffic to 127.0.0.1 :tongue.gif:. This effectively stops minecraft from accessing the internet, and lets you play offline (To do this you have to have successfully run minecraft at least once online though. Maybe do that part at home or something).
And how would I go about rerouting my internet traffic to 127.0.0.1?
Well, I'm not sure what program you used, but I used Proxifier Portable. In Proxifier, I clicked Settings > Proxy Settings > Add. Then I typed in 127.0.0.1 as the IP, and left the Port as is. After I got minecraft running offline, I just exited the proxy so my internet works again o_o"
Hey guys, I found this post and thought I could help with some of your performance issues on flash drives. So I built a little wrapper for my MCFS file container that basically runs the entire world from memory instead of a flash drive. Whenever you open minecraft and load a world the entire world is loaded into memory, and when you actually want to write it to disk, you save it by clicking a button. (see image below)
Please note: that this uses v0.3.1 of MCFS and I believe minecraft portable uses v0.2.1, which means the save files are NOT compatible.
I will update this sometime to support the new minecraft Halloween patch too.
Heres the download if you want to try it:
EDIT: Removed after halloween update.
Extract everything and place it inside your minecraft.jar file.
Is it possible to get this in an extension? .exe is blocked (exept for those installed by an admin). I have a minecraft in java format and it opens fine. Just wont log in...
I am having trouble getting this mcp to work with the halloween update, that is, it works, but it isnt integrating the MCFS saves, even using version 4... any word on how to correct this?
Sorry I haven't been able to reply for so long; I've been unable to access a computer so I wasn't able to update anything. I've just made a version with the newest version of MCFS (4.0), and I'm going to rewrite the first post to make it easier to read and understand.
EDIT: Done. I'll be adding an FAQ section soon, for everyone that is having issues.

I have everythign downloaded, but I'm rather confused as to my next step. I have (Minecraft.exe|Minecraftp.exe) on my flashdrive, and The Minecraft Portable files downloaded. I've used 7zip to open up the minecraft.jar file and have a folder with (items, armor, textures etc...) Whats the next step :smile.gif:

You don't need to open anything :smile.gif: The program will automatically patch MCFS into your .jar file.
Also, on a USB, you want the MCFS version, not the regular version.
EDIT: Added a support section for two issues that constantly crop up.

Hey, I've tried using both versions of Minecraft portable (MCFS, for usb's, and normal) and they seem to either:
A: take ages to start up or
B: don't start at all.
As well as the fact the MCFS one isnt actually saving the world as single file, but still as a decent 1500 files within the first 5mins of playing.
Also, at school, software restriction policy(s) are blocking me running .exe files, so i use Excel's: Insert>Object:From file feature, to load the minecraftp-mcfs.exe
but it seems the software restriction policy(s) are blocking the .bat that the .exe tries to run
anyone know a way around this?
can you make a portable minecraft that doesn't do the downloading processes see at my school the minecraft proxy's are blocked so i can run it and log in but as it starts the down-loader even though its already up to date it crashes the client and i cant play because of this, that is unless i sneak behind my pc and unplug the internet for like 3 mins but this is an ass and makes it more obvious that im doing someing suspicious.

You could try the Single File Save System and see if you can get it to start with Portable. So you use a world you already have set. I have Comp for my first class so I can play online once at the beginning of the day, but then it starts spassing out and everything. Like if you use the iTunes visualizer but if it were broken. So I can't play it. Any ideas? The site is not blocked for the first 30 minutes of the day.

It doesn't quiet work for me. When i double click the icon it either doesn't open it up or it takes forever (I'm using the USB one.)
EDIT: And sometimes it wont even read the save files, and when If that occurs and I try to start a new world it crashes.
EDIT:EDIT: Nevermind, I was just using a really old and back USB.

Any solutions?
Could someone put the file up on Megaupload for me, maybe?
