I'm not usually this hostile, but I am for some reason. Sorry.
That's quite alright. =)
You have to understand that I'm working full time hours supporting this project and my asking $1 for this program and the quality service; by quality service I mean that I try my best to provide support personally answering every question in a prompt and professional manner, is not much to ask. For me working on this project has been a fun experience and I enjoy it, but I feel I should get something for the hours I've spent. I'm sorry to hear my charging a buck has made you feel so upset.
I hope you change your mind and decide to not visit the McDonalds $1 menu but instead purchase MAU.
Awesome! Thanks for the update.
Yeah, now the prompt makes a lot more sense, and says that my BACKUP is newer when it really is!
Cool work dude.
Also everyone has the right to put a price on things. Just because others don't doesn't mean a thing.
It can be inconvenient if the method of payment is unavailable to you. Personally, since I had paypal set up, it was very easy to buy.

It's great to hear that you are happy with the lasted update!
You asked about it, so I'm currently testing a method of compressing files in zip format. If all goes well this feature will be present in a coming update. =)
So I see you updated, I asked about this before but are we going to have to repurchase every time you update? I see you said you would send a message to those who purchased but I never got a message.
I just lost everything in a lava fall and now my world is ruined :sad.gif: I also noticed that your utility only saves 1 single version and does not do multiple backups. So now I lost everything and your tool didn't do multiple back ups, only the single one after I close... I closed and boom, and your tool automatically overwrote the backup... ugh.
So.. paying for a program to basically copy a file, paste it in a new directory wherever it may be (and vice versa), and launch a program which already has an icon you simply have to click.. I've seen people develop much larger projects for much less. **** this.

First things first... You really should offer people a chance to try your software before purchasing... Some people feel like they are being led into something and then not getting what was promised... That's the reason you get so much hostility... I on the other hand did purchase it and it works ok so I'm going to continue using it...
2 Things though...
You should offer the ability to ZIP the saves to save space as well as reduce transfer times...
You should also make it ZIP the saves before the transfer. When you transfer 6,000+ files from the hard drive to a USB drive it takes forever not to mention the fact that your wearing down the USB drive by creating multiple seek and access requests... And then when you restore it should copy the ZIP container over and extract... Just my thoughts...
He said a few posts up that he would try to implement zipping files for the next version :smile.gif:
I don't see anyone complaining who actually bought the software (perhaps except for Sphinxks, who was mistaken about multiple backups (it DOES do multiple), and was given help). I'd also imagine that a "demo" of such a small utility would be infeasible, but who knows.

Thank you purchasing MAU!
I didn't consider doing a shareware version as they often end up cracked and distributed on warez/torrent sites and I wanted to only offer support this project for the people whom were willing to take a risk with me; that and it's only buck. This also allows me to know that any of suggestions about changes or bugs found are made from a paid customer and puts any changes made in their hands, as I take every suggestion into consideration and implement those that feasible to do so. Instead of a shareware version I have planned to do a video preview showing all of the features and usage of MAU, I just haven't gotten to it yet.
A zip feature is planned and I already have most of the code working, this will most likely be present in the next release. You are absolutely right about about transfer speeds for usb flash drives and the method you have posted will most likely be used.
Thank you for your suggestions, I hope you continue to use MAU as I continue to improve it! =)

Followed your directions and it worked thanks again
Nothing worse than losing all your inventory to a accident lol. Backup for minecraft is a must.

That's great to hear!
Were you able to find the email I sent out, with the update information for v1.4.3?
Want it for free? Go program your own. Can't make one? Uh oh, guess you'll have to spend your free time learning how to do it, just like he spends his free time making something and you expect it for free.
My world files were utterly destroyed after a blue screen of death. But with Minecraft Assist Utility, I was able to restore a backup and I hardly lost a thing!

Thanks for the support! =)

Indeed! And I just wanted to say:

It's wonderful to know that you were able to recover your world using MAU!!!
I will probably buy after I get done with the move in a couple of days, will help with syncing my desktop and netbook everyday after school(thank god for having a netbook during lunch and waiting for the bus >>.)
So if this program was made with AutoHotKey, are you really allowed to charge for it?
From their license:
2. You may modify your copy or copies of the Program or any portion
of it, thus forming a work based on the Program, and copy and
distribute such modifications or work under the terms of Section 1
above, provided that you also meet all of these conditions:
a) You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices
stating that you changed the files and the date of any change.
:cool.gif: You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in
whole or in part contains or is derived from the Program or any
part thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third
parties under the terms of this License.
The good news is, you can charge for support, but unless I'm reading this wrong, you can't charge for the program itself.

You are reading it wrong:
"Any executable you make using AutoHotkey is also under the GNU public license, because the executable contains code from a GNU-protected application. Right?" - Some User Asked
"No, because the EXE doesn't contain AutoHotkey's source code. Therefore, when you distribute a compiled script, you're not distributing any GPL source, and thus your application isn't subject to the GPL unless you want it to be.
In other words, when you build an app with AutoHotkey, there are no restrictions on selling it, nor do you have to release your script's source code. This is because it is similar in principle to having built the app with a GPL C++ compiler." - Chris Mallett Creator of AutoHotKey
I'm considering getting this but I have a couple of questions before I purchase (sorry if they've already been asked).
[*:3jh2wjqv]What compression does the program use? (I hoping 7zip because my only reason to upgrade to a paid solution is better compression for Dropbox)
[*:3jh2wjqv]Does the backup file contain the folder structure saved in such a way that somebody without this tool could un-compress the file then copy it to their folder? (another reason I would like to purchase, sharing worlds is what I use my FREE tool for, if a paid solution can't do this then I don't see the point)
[*:3jh2wjqv]Are you considering a free version of this application that just restores backups for those wishing to share their world saves? (a free feature-restricted version is a great way to lure new users, Minecraft does it)
[*:3jh2wjqv]When you purchase from this site are all future updates free? I just read the answer, as long as I get e-mail alerts to free updates it's fine.
These are just a few of the things you should really mention on your site.
Also are you worried about the potential for Minecraft to get a backup or save-to-server feature that'll make all this work worthless for you?
Additionally you should shell out a couple of the $'s you've earned on a .com domain because cjb.net is a notorious domain used by scammers, crackers and malware. It really does only cost a couple of $'s for a domain from places like godaddy.com (vouchers are available around the web for even cheaper prices) and it would up your credibility considerably.
Thank for your interest in MAU!
Answers:
[*:3jh2wjqv]None. The next release will be using built in Windows Compression functions. I might consider adding support for 3rd party compression programs.
[*:3jh2wjqv]Nope. This is being changed in the next release.
[*:3jh2wjqv]No. This has already been addressed in this thread.
[*:3jh2wjqv]Current updates for v1 are free, if I ever reach a version 2 I will most likely require repurchase, but this is probably unlikely going to happen as I've yet to reach my goals for v1 and haven't even considered a v2 yet.
Great suggestion. The more information available the better. I'm sure I'll find time to focus my attention on the website after I finish this next release.
Nope, to me no work is worthless if at the time you found value in doing it!
I have planned to invest in a domain after I've reached a certain dollar amount.
With your questions answered, I feel that it is necessary to point out that there are many reasons, even in its current form, why people should consider using MAU. For one it's very stable and more so compatible then some of the free options out there. Although the backup routine is lacking compression(changes are coming), it does save a considerable amount of drive space by design. How it does this is by only saving new and newly modified files to the main backup folder. Older files are moved into timestamped folders. These files are used to restore your world to a previous state, while the main acts to either sync your current data or fully restore a lost game world. Most of my backup sub-folders are less then 1 megabyte even after a hour long spelunking in huge cave systems. The speed of syncing in drop box is comparable to transferring a several zip larger files, of course this is only seen after the initial first sync with a new computer which takes a bit more time. As I've mentioned I'm also offering constant support and updates, in the future many more features will be seen in MAU.
Thank you again for your post. I'm sorry that MAU isn't what you are looking for at this current time. Check back in the future and perhaps it will be in a state more suited to your needs. =)

Is this even legal? seems pretty lame.
