Any chance for any new nether structures/dungeons or mobs in the future?
I want to add some structures like ghast nests, big bridges, destructed fortress columns, bone corals and may be others. I am not sure about adding more mobs, because I don't have any interesting concepts now.
Hey so I've been wanting to reply to this thread for a little while now, but I had some issue with twitch merging and name changes and such. lol, But it's fixed now. Also didn't think I was going to leave such a long reply, sooo my bad. lol
Anyway I'd like to show something a bit odd, something I'm not sure was intended, or even needs to be fixed at all. As it could add an interesting gameplay element. You know the old developer trope "it's not a bug, it's a feature" lol
(Just found out tinypic is down as of rn, it might work later)http://tinypic.com/r/sm4n86/9
(use this)https://flic.kr/p/PhJLWz
So I'm not sure if it shows super clearly, but the eggplant damage only starts getting applied when the player is not standing on an eggplant, as it doesn't matter which eggplant you're standing on just as long as you're standing on one. I don't think it's a big deal and can make things interesting if a mob is trying to kill you while you're trying to not die from poison and heal up. Kinda like getting forced to play the floor is lava with things that want to kill you. Here's a still fp view https://flic.kr/p/2bEgjiB
Also there's a missing texture for one of the cactus icons I believe it's the orange one. https://flic.kr/p/PhKjBt
Things that are cool to note is that your mod works with NetherEX well, I'm not quite sure if it also works also with Biomes O' Plenty, but I am sure they probably do, because from what I understand NetherEx works well with Biomes (I haven't checked yet cause I don't want to take the time to go through my "ruins" mod and edit what biomes each the structures should load yet, lol)
Anyway, I had some requests/suggestions I'd like to throw your way.
So I'm not quite sure how your mod loads and places things
Sometimes things are SUPER dense, and others they're really sparse, and there doesn't seem to be any middle ground or soft edges.
(ref pics 1 dense, 2 sparse) https://flic.kr/p/PhLUUVhttps://flic.kr/p/PhM2Bn Would you consider something like basically duplicated biomes? Kinda like the "biomes+" or the "mega's" kinda like a sub biome or something that world be like smaller more sparse ones or even larger more dense ones? I'm not quite sure if I'm explaining what I mean very well here.
Anyway moving on. Can we get a highly configurable file or file system for the mod to adjust things? Like what biomes can spawn, spawn rates of the biomes, size of the biomes, and maybe even what can spawn in one of your biomes and or its % to spawn, like the ability to remove the egg plant if you didn't like it, or even add an objects chance to spawn in another biome maybe even one not one added by your mod or in vanilla. (like I think it would be dope to be able to add those hanging eyeballs to spawn in other area's also!)
So I noticed that your grass lands, and jungles spawn in their own area's, but they really like spawning around some of the biomes added by the NetherEX especially the Ruthless Sands, seriously, there's a lot a f***'n soul sand now. lol, So that kinda gave me an interesting idea for like a flower or plant or something, that could add like a sort of randomly generated parkour platforming type stuff to these area's you'd be extremely slow in. by having some kind of plant that can spawn in on top of soulsand that would act like a buffer for the slowness soul sand gives. Kinda like a soul sand lily pad or something? Idk your blue flowers gave me the idea. But like you could attempt to move through the area by hoping from them, given you got lucky they spawned in a way that helps. lol, I think that would also be cool cause then you'd have a way to hop over eggplants too.
I really like what you're doing here, it certainly helps give the Nether more life. I'm looking forward to your full curseforge release. And of course I'll keep checking in on your project here.
I do have a suggestion, and I mean no offense by it, but have you considered giving your mod a more unique name than "better nether" I only bring this up because, well, it's a little hard to find your mod. Like I had to go back through my history to get to this forum or something like that. And I think it would be a shame if your mod goes under the radar due to it being hard to find amongst all of the other "better" mods or all the youtube video's with "better nether" even though they aren't apart of the mods names. Like maybe even just toss your user name in it or something? "Paulev's Better Nether" I don't know, probably not important, just something I thought you might want to consider.
Also quick question did you get the ghast nests structure idea from Grian?
Because that would be dope to have those added. I really like his organic designs.
(if anyone was curious about the cool ghost wisp soul sand partials where from in the eggplant video, they're added with the Better Foliage mod)
Bug with eggplant is strange, I will try to fix it.
Bug with "missing textures" are known bug named as "Items with metadata have wrong models (decorative cactus)", maybe I will make another Item for it and this will be a solution.
About configurable file system — I will add some configs later, but I think they will not be very detailed, because it will make this mode analogue of OpenTerrainGenerator or TerrainControl, it will be too complicated and rare used.
About sub-biomes (or mutated biomes as vanilla named them) — I am planning to add some, maybe, but not quite sure.
Parkour plants for soul sand? I want to add some plants, that grows only on soul sand, I will think about it.
About dense and sparse things (especially cacti) — they are generated by random and feature-noise values, I will change it a bit, but original idea was to make dense clusters of plants in deserts, like real-life plants have.
Mod name... Maybe will not be changed, I think that it completely shows, what it does. Some other mods have simple names, that simply describes, what mod do (for example — OpenTerrainGenerator or Traincraft.
About Ghast nests - yes, the original idea was from Grian. Maybe they will not look like he shows us, but I'll try make them not ugly.
Sunconure11 I'm not really sure about what kind of support you're talking about. It's already basically supported, the biomes spawned by this mod can fit into the already existing biomes, and I think it does it quite well. Area's like the Ruthless Sands, can get biomes like the nether jungle and grasslands like to spawn there, but it also won't completely fill them either, so if you're worried about not having VAST area's of just empty plain soul sand, they'll still be around. One thing that NetherEx did is make like sub-blocks so all of their custom netherrack blocks are seen as just more netherrack, so things like the eye's can still spawn there, while it seems like they may spawn less there occasionally, but that could be completely anecdotal from what I've seen. Also biomes like the Arctic Abyss and the Fungi Forest don't really get effected too much by this mod(if the arctic, does at all), which I think works out great. I think the Fungi Forest can get like the hanging eyeballs to spawn in, but they seem like they usually spawn more sparsely for the most part. Again I think it works out very well, I think the mod def adds to NetherEx. The only support I could think of is being able it do minor adjustments to like where things spawn or something? Idk, like I said I haven't really noticed any problems.
And you're welcome, I'm glad to help, and put in a little bit of input. Thanks for putting in the effort to make something this nice paulevs. I actually typed this up like almost a week ago, but I didn't post it right away, and it got deleted, then I got too busy to retype it up till now. lol
I have also found a couple other bugs, nothing major tho.
The ink bush seed can be place anywhere like a block, even on the ceiling. https://flic.kr/p/QZeVbq
Another bug I found that's a bit unusual I have a mod that tells me what block I'm looking at(it's at the top left of fp screenshots) what mod or where it's from and like other information the block can have. but it doesn't show any information for a grown ink bush plant as if I'm looking in to the air, like it doesn't even show what's behind it or anything, and I've never seen that happen. Again, not game breaking.
I almost forgot, sometimes a reed will spawn, but then a flower takes it's space, leaving half the reed floating above the flower, sometimes it'll break instantly after loading cause it's not really attached to the ground, and sometimes it'll just stay there completely floating. And eyeballs can spawn like into the lava creating like holes in the lakes.
What do you mean "it will make this mode analogue of OpenTerrainGenerator or TerrainControl"? Does your mod effect different terrain generators? what does it do to them? I use a couple of terrain generatiors, does it effect like certain ones or something?
And absolutely, I certainly don't mind the name. I was thinking it would be a shame if your mod somehow flew under general radar, especially if someone happens to do a showcase of it on something like youtube. But I don't think it should be much of a problem if any at all.
And that's awesome about the ghast nests, I mean I haven't seen your building's, but I like all of your designs for the blocks you've made. I'm sure you'll do great. I was almost thinking about making my own design and using another mod like, ruins, recurrent complex, or cave generator to spawn them in before seening you were wanting to make some. lol
Also I had one thing, then most important thing, I forgot to request for last time I posted a comment.
So the hanging eyeball plant things you have. Can you take like the water/lava dripping animation that happens from when you have a water, or lava block directly over a 1 block high ceiling? Can you take that, turn it blood red, and add it to the hanging eyeballs! It would be like it was RAINING BLOOD! where they grow in dense. lol, Like the small ones could drip the least while the large fully grown ones dripped the most. That would be so great. If there is one thing your mod needs, it's only that. lol, Ignore everything else I've ever said, if I can get eyeballs that drip blood off of them, please. lol
I really like your mushroom biome idea, and the medium-sized mushrooms design is super nice. Have you thought about adding in different texture designs for the medium mushrooms like multiple medium mushrooms? It would definitely be useful for getting other inks. I really like the color pallet you've been using for your reeds, stalagnates, and blue flowers, Idk, I just really like the blues, teals, purple items you've added to the nether it makes it look way better than just like red everything everywhere. lol, I think they would work really well with the mushrooms there.
...The ink bush seed can be place anywhere like a block, even on the ceiling...
...eyeballs can spawn like into the lava creating like holes in the lakes...
Will be fixed in next release. It is implemented in unreleased build, it will be published soon.
What do you mean "it will make this mode analogue of OpenTerrainGenerator or TerrainControl"? Does your mod effect different terrain generators? what does it do to them? I use a couple of terrain generatiors, does it effect like certain ones or something?
Not quite. I mean only advanced configuration system, like these mods have. It's very useful for many things, but these mods are actually customizable world generators, except my mod, so some configurations will be present (not in next release, but they will be added) but they will not be so powerful. Maybe biomes and blocks can be enabled/disabled and some density values for plant generation.
Also I had one thing, then most important thing, I forgot to request for last time I posted a comment.

I will add more mushrooms, red and brown are only for start (at this time I only made red, that was shown on screenshot. Maybe I will retexture its cap, I think it needs more shading). There will be some special mushrooms, that will be used as source of dyes or some more resources. Some years ago I made a mode for Minecraft clone (Minetest), that has similar biome. I will not directly copy it, as it is old and not very beautiful, but some ideas — maybe.

Also, did anybody notice, what happens, if use bonemeal on netherrack?

you should upload to curseforge, this would allow people to use your mod in twitch modpacks and you can gain curse points which i believe are worth 5 cents each. it's overall a better idea instead of using this independent download on MCF https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft

This place will be covered with medium-sized mushrooms and will be good source of some dyes.
At this moment I only finish Medium Red Mushroom.
Would it be possible to add NetherEX support to your mod?
What kind of support do you want?
Will be fixed in next release. It is implemented in unreleased build, it will be published soon.
Sounds interesting, I'll try it.

Also, I tried to fix cascade world generation bug, it is fixed for mostly objects
At this time I have some problems with forge gradlew (that worked before)
It tries to download file from this link (mcp-1.12.2.pom), but it is missing on forge server (404 page).
Same problem confirmed for 1.12, 1.11 and 1.10, as I tested. For 1.7.10 it works fine. New version couldn't be installed due to same error.
Somebody (and not only one) has this error, but no solution was found (for example this thread), forge developers just ignore it.
I'll try this on another computer, if It will fail again I'll try to find another solution.
Ok, I fix forge gradlew bug and new release are here!

Download: betternether-0.1.4-1.12.2
you should upload to curseforge, this would allow people to use your mod in twitch modpacks and you can gain curse points which i believe are worth 5 cents each. it's overall a better idea instead of using this independent download on MCF https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft
In Development:
Cincinnasite
