This mod essentially allows you to manipulate starlight and perform spells, allowing for fast-paced fights. However, I am a newbie modder, so my programming language skill is low. I am planning to try and get at least 5 abilities done by the end of summer, and I would like help with them. This is a learning experience for me, however, and I would appreciate if you guys gave help.
I will probably be using mcreator to test my ideas, and see what the code looks like and get a feel for things.
I am not sure what your question is? I would recommend you learn how to program in java before you jump into modding minecraft. While MCreator does work (in a sense), the code it generates is horrible. It would do more harm than good when you're trying to learn Java. I would recommend perusing Choonster's TestMod3 on GitHub. It helps loads.

Thx! When I was going to ask for help whenever I encounter a roadblock, so right now I don't have any questions, but I probably will in the future.

Thanks so much! I am also learning how to code with tutorials for WeHaveCookies (IntelliJ). I am going to use MCreator to create my models and textures, and to experiment with what I should do first. Please bear with me when I ask you questions! (Things that are obvious to you will probably be not be obvious to me) And I am learning java, but I will probably only have time on the weekends (school)

Entities are harder to edit than blocks. You're better off copying the minecraft add classes for the entity you want to modify, modify it, then register the entity under your own mod. You can see the Minecraft source by ctrl-click in IntelliJ (I use IntelliJ too ) assuming you ran setupDecompWorkspace correctly.
And by extension, deobfJars/Mc/whatever worked too

Ok, after learning a little bit more, I have decided that I will attempt a basic magic mod before I attempt this mod. That will make it easier for me to code abilities later down the road.

I cannot agree more. You should really learn Java.
Although I argue C# is better, you have now choice here
If I may, I would like to introduce you to your new best friends:

Do you guys know how I would use the guardian' laser, but with custom attributes instead of making a new entity?

Thanks! So the code would be something like:
public class ItemStarlightLaser extends GuardianLaser(or whatever it is)
Then the modified entity attributes

Progress edit!!!!
I am working with CrowsofWar on his Avatar: Out of the Iceberg mod.
As for this one, I have a couple custom items and a custom mob done so far.
Summer was ruthless; so is school.
