I kind of feel the Need to point something out I said already.
If the Player becomes a Vampire LORD, why would he go Mining or Farming or otherweise doing Peasants Work, when he is a LORD.
(Vampire) Lords are considered Leaders, and therefore, they shouldnt need to do that but have minor Vampires (Servants, Peasants, Miners, Guards whatever...)
There should be a maximum amount of Minions a Lord can have at the same time, and even if a Lord is all maxed out, they shouldnt be too OP, but still it should feel like beeing an ultra powerful mighty Vampire King.
After countless Hours of Leveling up, drinking Villagers, escaping from Hunters or getting attacked by some, getting Sundamage, and Killing the Vampire-Boss, I feel like the Player deserves that.

But it doesn't fit to the current implementation of the vampire lord transformation, which is, above adefined level, cheap(only a cooldown), but short.
It would be strange to have minions for farming if they are gone 30 seconds later or so.

I thought the Player becomes a Vampire Lord by taking the current Vampire Lord down (Bossbattle) if he is a Vampire with high level, and then stays a Vampire Lord forever. I understanded that Vampire Lords can transform into bats and maybe get a third form similar to Marcus in Underworld or the Vampire Lord in Skyrim, that would be called their "True Form" or something...
Well, take it as an Idea if you want.
The second and third Idea dont make sense to me at all. The first, well, why is it called a Vampire Lord, if it just means having a high level.
I'll download it an see what I can figure out...

Maybe the name "vampire lord" doen not exactly fit to what we have currently implemented.
At the moment there are multiple vampire lords of different levels which the player has to kill to level up. Which is a kind of boss battle because you have to kill one of these rare and very strong mobs. So you could almost say the player is a "vampire lord" at higher levels since he killed other lords.
The thing we currently call "vampire lord transformation" is a skill/ability you gain with level 8 and which allows you to temporary get even stronger and have minions which fight for you. After some time you transform back and have to wait until the cooldown is over. As far as I have read (I haven't bought the DLC yet) the vampire lord transformation in dawnguard is also something you can toggle.
I understand that the expression "vampire lord" doesn't really fit to something you can toggle, but I like this feature and just calling the player vampire lord after he reaches a certain level is pretty boring.
Hope I understood you right and could explain what the lord transformation currently is.
The other comments to this topic (some cited at the end) seem to aim at a expensive but temporary transformation similar to the one implemented, am I right?
Maybe you guys want to check the current implementation in the new version out. (For testing you can use /test to reach a certain vampire level, but it destroys the immersion of course)
My Suggestion: You gain the vampire lord transformation at some level, But you cannot revert to human until you have consumed enough blood. You will also instantly die if you touch sunlight.
how about you have to perform a special ritual to unlock the transformation, maybe the ritual could give you x amount of transformations. I would say a medium duration, and a long cooldown, there could then be an expensive ritual/spell, like consuming a large amount of blood directly, which would reset the duration. I'd say double damage from sunlight and fire, with increased regen for a short while after kills.
So its something like the Werewolf Transformation, but not at full moon but at any Time just for a short while?
Why not "Vampire Rage" or "Vampiric Rage Mode"?

Ya, it is a temporary state. After you leave the "Vampire Rage" state or "Vampire Frenzy", you have a cool down before you can go back into another Frenzy.

Ok, I think we will rename it, but then some more question come up:
1. Should you still have minions spawning around you when in rage/frenzy mode?
2. Should you have fighting or mining minions when not in rage mode. How do you get them. Are they permanent until they die?
3. Should you be able to transform into a bat when in rage mode or always (of course with cooldown and min. level requirement)?
4. If it's just a rage mode, it will be "cheap" (just a cooldown) and short. Should there be some other kind of vampire lord transformation which is expensive, but e.g. stays until you die?

1- I think ould be better keeping for the another form
2- Both, it could be the villagers becoming your servants after you bite then, then give then a sword or a pickaxe for what they should do
3- Bat transformation should be a different ability not merged with vampire lord or rage
4- Yes something pretty much like skyrim or something like dracula true form from the castlevania series
1. Why have Minions in Rage mode? How does it make sense? I say no.
2. Both. For a Later, permanent, more expensive actual "Lord" form. They should be permanent but Week. But the Lord should be able to Command a maximum amount of at least 15 at the same time. When dey die, the Lord could spawn new ones in. (Maybe have the ability to upgrade them later on)
3. I think the Bat transformation should be a skill for itself with short cooldown but not with limited time in Bat form but with other limits eg less health, unable to use armor, inventory, whapons or place or break blocks. Like I already suggested.
4. Yes. After defeting a ultra high level Boss (that could be Dracula or Nosferatu) as a reward. It should take a very high level just to do damage to the Boss, and after killing it, the Player becomes his Succesor. This enables him to spawn and command minions to do the dirty work. It also should come with a change in Health, speed, attack damage and Looks that is Permanent. (I still think of Marcus Corvinus from Underworld Evolution)
This should also include more sundamage and take the abillity away to enter a church.
BUT! If a Vampire kills a Lord Player, this Vampire becomes the Vampire Lord, and the Player respans as the Vampire he was before the Battle (and get turned back into a human or claim the Throne of the Vampire Lord back by taking Revange)
Until the next Version releases, I'll try to become a Vampire in the current Version.

Found the Vampire Biome and the Sword is almost full...
There are some minor Things bugging me. Nothing really Bad. Just small details so far. The "Solutions" are how I would solve that, if I could. Take them as Suggestions please. Sadly, I dont understand anything of Modding. If I did, I'd offer you a helping Hand.
1. The Vampires are silent and look all the Same.
Solution: Add multiple Skins for the Vampires. They dont need all to be male, black haired. Why not some times a Vampire with blond or brown Hair?
And female ones! Plus sounds. (Females doing diffrent Sounds than Males) So there be six diffrent Looks. One for each Haircolor and Gender.
2. Why is there a Need for an Altar to become a Vampire? It doesnt make Sense to me. In most of the Stories a Person becomes a Vampire by getting bitten or exchanging Blood with a Vampire. Also: The Altar seems to be hard to find.
Solution: Add an alternative Way to become a Lv1 Vampire. Or make the Altar Tier 1 Craftable. Or Both.
I would Suggest you the Following: When the Sword is full (or halfway full) there is a small Chance added that if a Vampire gives the Player a custom effect that doesnt do anything, but leasts multiple minecraft days. If its just ignored, and it wears off like normal, the Player turns into a Lv1 Vampire.
But the Effect will go away without turning the Player into a Vampire if the Player drinks Milk or Eats Food that isnt Meat. Like Apples or Carrots or Bread.
3. The Vampire Forest Biome looks strange. I think it doesnt quite blend in with the normal Biomes.
Solution: Change the Texture of this purple Dirt and make it more like a dark brown or something with a shade of dark grey. Also: Diffrent Trees (cursed trees) with brown or dark grey leaves. And it should have dead bushes and Bats!
Again, these are small things, that could probably be in the next Version, if im guessing right.
If you dont like my suggestions, you can tell me why, and I'll probably think of something else.

There was a plan to make the dead trees. But programming even stuff like that in Minecraft can be way more difficult than you'd think, so it didn't get finished.
Regarding my earlier questions, thanks for the answers, here is what I think I will do:
1. Ok no minions in that mode
2. I think I will make them permanent, but cheap and limited in quantity. Blood collecting minions sound cool.
3. Probably seperated, but with some drawbacks like TheBeastCH suggested
4. Ok, we might implement the real vampire lord mode as max level (and no instant death, sorry anton99). That would mean the player has to reach the highest implemented level and then has to kill dracula or so to become the real vampire lord. But that would mean you could only have minions when you are almost "done" with the mod, maybe you could have one or two minions at an earlier point.
Does that sound good?
P.S. Can someone explain the the vampire lord transformation in Skyrim to me, I thought it was something temporary like the werewolf transformation.
P.P.S. This forum-post-editor is in dire need of improvement

The vampire lord transformation makes the vampire looks alot more demonic the transformation is infinite you activate or desactivate as you wish without any cooldown but the cost will be everyone being hostile to you, in this form the player is grantes with the following things:
More points in Mana, Health and Stamina(not sure about stamina)
A powerful claw attack which inflicts poison after unlocking in perk (in dawnguard vampires and werewolf have they perk tree too)
Able to float in water since they have wings
Bats come to help the vampire lord dealing damage to enemies (only by unlocking the perk)
the night power which can be toggled are:
Bats Form which makes then travels distances (its more like a whirlwind sprint)
Mist Form which makes then unable to attack or being attacked, used mostly to regen health safely or escape
Supernatural reflexes : slow the time around while remaing fast
Detect All creatures
Also blood magic:
Drain Life (unlocked by default): a magic bolt which drains the foe life
Raise Dead(unlocked by default): the same as the raise zombie in vanilla skyrim
Vampiric Grip(unlocked with perk): essentially the same as using the force on star wars making you able to lift and throw enemies
Corpse Curse(unlocked with perk): paralyze enemies for 10 seconds
also the skyrim power attack becomes a power bite which is the same as feeding on someone
1. Some more types would be cool, we will see how many LRA_10 wants to make :D. Regarding the sound, we will have to see if we find any freely available vampire sounds we can find.
2. We have the altar for level 1 so you only become a vampire if you want to, so we could it be more common, but your idea also sounds pretty cool, I will discuss that with the others. We defenitively don't want the altar with it's cool model, where you can insert the sword, go to waste.

I'd say its a good plan to do it like this.
Now I imagine the Player to be able to have some Minions at a high level, and the maximum number of Minions rise with each level, and after beating Dracula, it almost dobbles or something like that.
Is there going to be limits how often the Dracula Boss spawns/can be spawned without cheating?
If yes, there would be only one Vampire Lord on Multiplayer, and the only way to become Lord for somone else is tokill the Lord and take his place.
If no, there will be probably lots of Vampire Lords on a Server, and that would be extremly OP for Survival PVP...

I'm currently working on small vampire minions which defend their lord (either a vampire lord or the player when he has transformed into a lord)

Maybe you have a alternative idea.
Okay guys the next version 0.4 is done.
Many new features are added, some sadly didn't make it into this version, but will be added later (coffing, dracula, etc.).
To see what was added take a look here: https://github.com/TeamLapen/Vampirism/wiki/Features
I hope we found all (major) bugs and fixed them, but you never now, so please report any problem you find.
The wiki was also updated to include all the newest changes, so make sure to check it out.
Regarding the BALANCE, we tried out best to make it as balanced and fair as possible, but thats a difficult task, so we need your help/suggestions on that. By the way, almost all balance relevant settings are still configurable via the config file, so you can try out your own balancing.
Download: https://github.com/TeamLapen/Vampirism/releases/download/v0.4/Vampirism-1.7.10-0.4.jar
I hope we are able to release for frequent, but smaller updates in the future.
Now enjoy the game and give us some feedback
