How about a respect system where you get respect from killing mobs(including wild dragons) and lose some when you don't kill mobs for a while or when you die?The amount of respect you get depends on how strong the mob you killed was.
This respect system will let you recruit wild dragons to be on your side depending on how much respect you have.Stronger wild dragons require more respect than weaker ones, obviously.
Seems like the common theme between some of the ideas like this, is that the Dragon Player gains power over time by doing "things".
We do have plans to increase the power of the dragon when they collect gold coins. I think what we could do is add some type of extra HUD, maybe more hearts, or change the armor bar in some way to show the increased power of the dragon.
There could be multiple ways the power of the dragon grows, not just collecting gold coins.
Err...were you replying to me or to DraconicWizard?I can't tell....
Was trying to address what both of you were saying
We will probably get there eventually, but at the moment, the biggest concern we have is we need some help rendering the models for the dragons. I've never done any custom mob work before this mod, and I am the only coder. We could still use some help with that if anybody is interested. We do have it "working", but would like to have it look better.
This is a fun mod to write code for if anyone is interested. There is just something pretty cool about writing code for a flying dragon
.....Burrowing dragon? as in, it passes through blocks like spectator mode?
it could be REALLY bad at flying (it CAN fly, but barely)
has night vision and can pull mobs underground
ir could be serpentine, doesnt get suffocation damage, and can see through blocks (or some other way so that your vision doesnt go black when you pass through blocks
Sounds pretty cool. I hope we can eventually do some dragons with some very different abilities similar to this
One thing I've done some work on is two types of fireballs. I'd like some feedback on what people think about how they should work.
So one just catches any Entity the fireball hits on fire. It doesn't catch buildings on fire. The other fireball is explosive. At the moment it just has a small explosion (could be made bigger). It also catches things it hits on fire, including the buildings. Now to keep these from being too OP, I'm thinking you would only randomly get one or the other for each mob you kill.
The player dragon will start out at level 1. You will level up based on a yet to be determined formula. It is also possible that these built in dragon weapons (the fireballs) will increase in power as the player dragon levels up.
I was just about to respond as well. Like Wildbill said, in the future all of the different dragon classes will have different abilities with different upgrades. I like the mod x-ray idea. For the first release we will only be implementing the Argentum Draco and maybe the Aurum Draco.

I think would be better to lets say start with a super weak version of the common fireball and as you level up it gets stronger dealing more damage and make entities burn longer, and after reaching a certain level you could toggle between the explosive and the common one, I think they are good the way now but a flamethrower breath is planned?
About open and close te dragon mouth I don't know if it works for player models but there is a program that let you animate models directly when you are making then, I think the name is MCAnimator or something like that, and I have readed you can import techne models to ir
I did look at MCAnimator (sounds like the right name, didn't check) briefly. It does seem like it is sort of an all or nothing option. You do all of your animation with it or you use Minecrafts rendering system. Also it appeared to me (I could be wrong), that it is fairly old as Minecraft things go, and was trying to establish itself as a standard (like forge is), but never succeeded. Best I could tell, it needs to be installed separately just like forge, for the mod to use it. Now you can expect everyone to install forge if they are going to use your mod, but other than that, I'd prefer not to rely on it being there.
I have found a few tutorials on how to animate something like opening and closing the dragon mouth. It doesn't look to hard, it is just one of those things that would take days to learn and I don't have the time for that at the moment. Now if only someone who already knows this stuff took an interest, they could do it in a few hours
would it be possible to make a small dragon that can turn transparent?
it could have a prehensile tail that you could give weapons to and a long tongue that can grab things
(basically the snake tailed chameleon from naruto with proper eyes, snake tail, spikes, and non broken horns...and the wings aren't tattered)
