Hi everyone, I am working on the idea of creating a GUI+Item based mod, called The Compendium. The idea behind it is that a Visually-Based Compendium (similar to our encyclopedia, or a pokedex in pokemon) for every item in the game, base minecraft first and then expand to certain mods.
The idea came to me when I saw a huge compendium of interesting mushroom species (search Inky Cap Mushroom), and thought it would be great if there was a progression based type of mod that would be similar to NotEnoughItems, but with much more information when available. This would make the core ideas of NEI be put to a lore-friendly, vanilla feeling, setting.
The compendium will only unlock entries in it when a player finds and interacts with an item or a block in different ways. So, the moment you mine, pick up, or craft a block, it will unlock. The lore will be the universally available information after you have acquired the block or item, if you mine it, another entry will be added to that object showing what ore or block was mined to receive it, if you craft it or use it in a crafting recipe, those will also be entries in that object.
I think this could be a great mod, because it will maintain the feel of minecraft vanilla, since it is basically a book that you are writing, and doesn't just give you all the info (like NEI does). It will also be more polished because it 1. Won't feel like a cheat, 2. Will feel natural and progressive, 3. Will add levels of realism and depth to the objects and world your playing, and 4. Makes a whole new job of "collector"
Let me know what you guys think if you would like to partake or help me with the code/visuals of the project. Thanks.
