Fish are awesome pets. Minecraft needs a pet fish mod. THIS IS THE ANSWER! This mod is still heavily in development.

Development:

Features:

Fish bowl - Watch your fish swim around!

Fish-in-a-bag: A fish. In a bag. So you can take him (or her) home.

Fish food: Feed your pet!

Fish tank: Fish shouldn't be lonely. This is what they need. Up to 4 fish can swim around in here!
