Hello, I love the mod But I have a question. Would it be possible to allow your tools and such to be crafted from vines and string as well as from the cordage you get from cows. I can't think of the actual name right now. Maybe you can add in a config option to allow for the different cordage options. Having to use cows for that option is a pain because cows aren't that plentiful in my world and I have to breed them for that purpose and to kill them for it just spams me with too many steaks which makes gathering food too easy IMO. This is just a suggestion but a needed one . Thank you for the mod.
If you mean leather strips, the original idea was that tools would require leather as to make the game more difficult. I understand your cows problem all too well. However, I will consider adding in an "easy mode" for tools, that will default to false. In 1.8 you can make leather out of rabbit skin/hide, and when Forge updates I will definitely add a second leather strip recipe from rabbit skin/hide so leather isn't such a feast-or-famine resource.

I'm sorry, I don't speak Russian.
I think he is asking "can you make it work with IC2", since Industrialcraft now has lathes.

My understanding is that GregTech has lathes, and plain IC2 does not. In addition, the purpose of GregTech's lathe is to turn ingots into rods (with a byproduct of dust). I'm not sure how that could possibly fit within my mod, or what support would be necessary for GT lathes.

what if you were to just rename the leather strips to sinew and it would be available as a mob drop? Or you could get it as an occasional drop from zombies. the chances would be like the chances of getting a sapling from a tree or seeds from grass. Thanks for your reply.
Pretty nice gameplay, but I would like it if there where some early food sources that was not raw meat. Like say, make mushrooms edible or something.
It gets pretty annoying if you're running around gathering things and you're running low on food and all you have to eat is raw chicken, which is pretty much just a not-so-gross rotten flesh.
Also, something like lower meat drop chances for cows or higher leather drop chances would help in the leather thing. Rabbit will help in leather being easier to get, but it won't do much when you start using lots of leather for tools and start accumulating tons of meat that you don't need. (P.s What do you exactly mean by feast-or-famine resource?)
All in all though, I like the changes. Especially things like tools requiring leather strips. Now, instead of just breaking every block in my way, I have to stop and think, 'Can I afford to use my pick on this when I only have enough leather for one more tool?' I can't just pop out a new tool in 30 seconds, so I have to plan out how I'll use my things more than before.
I would like it if things didn't pop right out when I closed the crafting GUI though. It kinda gets annoying when I have to open the chest for iron nuggets, leather strips, etc every time I want to make something. I think it would be a real time-saver if I can just toss my catalyst items into the crafting, and have it waiting for me there every time I open the table.

That last point about things falling out of the crafting grid like they do with the vanilla crafting table is a good point. I think what he means about a feast or famine resource is you either have enough of the resource or not enough. In the case of getting the leather strips cows are not that plentiful (or at least not in my world) so the cows I do find I see I'm getting way too much beef for the amount of cows I have to kill compared to the leather strips I get. not to take over this thread with another topic but check out Mc+ Mods by lunchboxxx19. There are some mods he has that add to the game to make it even more challenging. Like loose rocks in cave that allow cave ins and and AI for passive mobs that make them run away when you get near them as opposed the the vanilla AI where they walk up to you waiting to be killed. Anyway back to the topic. Just a more balanced less hard option (not easy) to get leather strips or what ever for the tools.
I can raise the drop chances/amounts for leather in cows, so you won't have to massacre an entire herd to get enough to make armor and a toolset. By "feast-or-famine resource", I meant that you either had plenty of cows (spawning right next to a herd), or there aren't any cows nearby and you spend half the game searching for them (as is the case with nearly all of my single-player survival worlds). In addition, I may add an alternative material for use with tools instead of just leather strips (possibly with the ore dictionary).
As for the early game hunger issue, you won't need to eat raw meat. Cooking it in a basic kiln will remove all negative effects and turn it into charred meat. It's not great, but it's better than getting hunger or poison. I may add a better food source for early game that doesn't require the brick oven. I have plans for adding a campfire, but I have yet to get it working in full, so it might have to wait until after the 0.9.0 release.
I considered making the double workbench a tile entity so it could hold your items, just like the crafting station added by Tinker's Construct. At the time, I was rushing to get the thing working in the first place, so I might add that in after I get v0.9.0 finished (a couple of bugfixes left), as it requires an entire code rewrite for both the double workbench and the single workbench. Another reason I didn't make it hold your items is because the vanilla crafting table doesn't hold items either. This has the added advantage of multiple people being able to use the workbench at the same time (right clicking makes the player have access to a gui they didn't have without right-clicking, instead of granting access to the block's contents). While holding items is certainly useful, particularly in complex recipes (which this mod has no lack of), it is fairly low on my priority list.
I know about charred meat, it was one of the first things I cooked in my kiln. But the thing is, to get that, I need a pick, which means I need to spend at least a day and a night eating nothing, or crossing my fingers every time I eat, which is no fun(or go near spawn then kill my self, which is really no fun). Add the search for leather(hopefully will be solved by bunnies), then you can spend a pretty long time with nothing to eat but raw meat to eat.
It's not really that big of a problem though, as raw meat, while bad, can get you full with a little bit of luck, and even with bad luck, can keep you from starving to death.

For that food source you're talking about: Apples are available early on, (you can get one within a minute if you try), would a "Sugar Apple Slice" work? It could be crafted like a Golden Apple, but with sugar instead of Gold and produces eight Sugar Apple Slices, and could be cooked in an Oven to get "Caramel Apple Slice". One Sugar slice is as good as a Melon, and a Caramel slice as good as an Apple itself.
You don't need to add anything to make leather strips easier to get if you don't want to alter your mod or change the direction in which it's headed. I'm using a custom loot mod called Loot++ by Tmtravlr which allows you to add drops to mobs so I just added leather strips as a zombie drop. It's very easy to use if anyone is interested.
I'm making a modpack, based survival at first, then building a medieval "country". Your mod would fit just right. I'm using Enviromine (mention this because of your campfire, so I could use it to make players warm), Tinkers' Construct and Iguana's Tweaks for it (so you can't make vanilla tools, only for crafting), and I really hope, you'll continue working on this mod.
I'm using Pam's harvestcraft too, and you may know, she use simple crafting recipes for making food. I don't really like it. Then I saw your mod. My though: Take the "catalyst" (or how do you call it) inventory, put on oven, and use Pam's items to create food. Can you do something like that? Or at least some compatibility with MineTweaker so I can make my own recipes. That would be awesome.
I enabled vanilla tools to make, but I need a config to let them work. I can't use them, but the Ancient warfare people can and they have to.
Thank you!

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time recently. I do plan on the ability to add recipes via config to the advanced crafting table and the various furnaces, but that isn't planned for until after I finish v0.9.0.
Is it possible to add configs for mod tools? I have tested this with the Tinkers tools, as well as Mekanism's atomic disassembler, but it treats as if I was just punching the rocks.
Femtocraft! A new awesome tech mod with a focus on balanced exchange.
If you are a mod/modpack developer and need a banner/logo, contact me and I might be able to make you one (yes for free if I'm inspired). You can see my work here.
Start by making yourself a flint knife, which is two flint pieces diagonally. Punch leaves until you get a sapling, and use that with the knife in the crafting grid to get a stick. Kill a few cows, get leather, use that with your knife to get leather strips. Animals should also be dropping bones, you will need that later. Now, in the crafting grid, put the stick on the bottom right slot, the leather strip in the top right, and a piece of flint in the top left slot. You should now have a hatchet. Cut down a few trees, make yourself 2 crafting tables, put them side to side. You should now have a crafting table and an advanced crafting table. I don't exactly remember the recipe for the pickaxe, but it requires 2 bone shards (bone + knife), a bone and two sticks? If I'm right, that should give you a pickaxe. You now have cobblestone. As for the other stuff, I'm not far enough myself.
Although really, you probably should have just read whats on the front page. It tells you.

While I haven't tried this mod yet, it looks amazing. I've had a lot of concepts for mods like this before, but I haven't seen too many. I'll be sure to try this mod when I get time.

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time recently. I do plan on the ability to add recipes via config to the advanced crafting table and the various furnaces, but that isn't planned for until after I finish v0.9.0.
Is it possible to add configs for mod tools? I have tested this with the Tinkers tools, as well as Mekanism's atomic disassembler, but it treats as if I was just punching the rocks.Github build fixes that! Thanks!
