Hello guys! I'm planning on making a new car mod, which will add the ability to create custom cars, as well as cars, and some car-related things like gas stations, alloys, rubber trees, and more. Once it gets up and running, I'm planning on a config to let you make your own cars, as well as a program to make car models and textures. If you're interested in making textures for my mod, or have already and want to give them to me, then PM me and link any textures (skins/items/blocks/vehicles/etc.) you've made (if those textures are in a mod(s) or skin thread(s), link those thread(s)!
The features that cars will have include: Engines, gas tanks, tires, headlights, etc. All will be crafted.
There might also be many types of cars: Supercars, average cars, electrically powered cars (possibly, will have to be plugged in to charge), and possibly hydrogen powered cars (use buckets of water, right click on hydrogen powered cars to pour water into tank.
Different engines will have different crafting recipes and have different HP (Horsepower), Torque figures (maybe), number of cylinders (v4, v8, etc.), engine displacement ("size" of engine, ex. 5 liter engine), and engine tuning (is it geared towards performance, durability, or a balance of the two?).
Gas tanks will have a standard size of around about 16 gallons for regular sized cars, 12 for smaller cars, and 20 for larger cars. You can fill the gas tanks up by either pouring buckets of gasoline into the car's gas tank or by right clicking a gas pump and selecting the number of gallons of gas you want (I might make every gallon cost 1 gold nugget) (gas pumps are part of gas stations) and then clicking the car you want to refuel.
I will add road systems as part of the world generation.
There are no releases yet, but they will start coming soon! After a long time away, I'm starting work again!

Just a few days ago, I wanted to see a mod that adds cars that need fuel to run. I'm not that good of a coder yet, so I'm glad there's someone else working on it already.
I definitely like to see the gas stations implemented as well. Instead of a flat cost of 1 gold nugget, can we see a player configurable cost for the gas station that allows players to set up stations and collect payments from? The player would be able to lock the gas station so only they can configure it and collect payment, but other players would be able to purchase gasoline still.
I like how you're gonna implement durability for the cars. Will cars, when broken, drop their parts instead(maybe % chance for each part to drop unbroken) or drop nothing? I would find it silly to be able to break and pick up a car and replant it somewhere else.

I think that when the car crashes, only the undamaged parts will be dropped. Like if you hit a wall head-on, all the parts in the front would not be salvageable, but the mid and rear parts would be. I'll try to make a system that detects this.
And your suggestion for configurable payments is great - I'll try to do this.
As for the traffic lights, I'll do my best. If possible, I'll make the lights change!

Dropped parts based on type of collision or crash sounds great to me. Perhaps your system can also be extended to harm the player based on the crash too. : P
Also curious to see how you will implement road systems as well. Looking forward to the mod!
With road systems, I'm going to try adding a repetitive pattern. A huge repetitive pattern, but a pattern. and it will generate some space above the roads so that terrain doesn't affect it. And if it detects water under the road, it will place concrete 1 block thick under the road.

Also as another idea and possible feature later down the road(no pun intended), would it be possible to see cars holding passengers as well as the driver? (2+ players in one car)
I'm about to start school, and this year I'll also be playing soccer, so my schedule will be tight. I'll try my best to do as much as I can with the mod, but I REALLY NEED some texture artists and modelers. If you know someone who might be able to fit one, or even both of these jobs, please PM me.

I'm making a DeLorean DMC-12 model, and all I have to do is the cockpit and animations!
