So I was thinking about how FTB had their upcoming (if not already functional) private pack options, and how Forge is just so much better than Bukkit now, and I was thinking that Bukkit probably won't be long before it goes the way of hMod, and I was thinking about all of the server management tools that are necessary for good multiplayer, like warps, protection, permissions, etc. ForgeEssentials is looking to take care of a lot of that, but Towny is something that would definitely need to be a mod of its own. There is so much that could be done with it that a Bukkit port wouldn't really be able to do, and I wanted to post on here to see what you guys thought of my idea to make a Towny-like mod that was strictly for ForgeServer, having nothing to do with Bukkit.
This will be a total from-scratch project, using only the Towny config, commands, and permission nodes as reference for what needs to be done. But, it will also expand on the concept, since Forge will allow for GUIs and custom blocks that can increase functionality and ease of use.
I will implement everything Towny has now, including Towns, Nations, taxes, war, plots, economy integration, etc.
Might I suggest adding some of the capabilities from the Grief Protection plugin along with the ability to designate player claimable land in a 3d fashion (select the size of area and then the height L*W*H=Claimable Space). Along with this I'd like to suggest the addition of some commands. /Tax setall # (To set the tax for all plots in the town) /tax setplot # (So people who own larger land spaces can be taxed more to level the playing field out.)
Sorry for the potential necro, but I was just wondering what the status of this project was. I love the concept and since Bukkit's collapse I've been using forge server without any regrets (other than losing many of my once cherished plugins, namely Towny). The addition of a GUI to towny would be a great improvement!
