I have decided to put this thread up now that I have decided on a name and have more of an idea of what I plan on this mod doing than I previously did, any input or help would be appreciated. My current plan involves adding in multiple systems for many branches of magic, some of these include Herblore, Alchemy, Sorcery, Summoning, Voodoo(possibly), Tinkering(as in the creation of magical items), and Engineering(The use of machines that make use of magic along with anything else I think of that would fit well) and any other form of magic I can think of or that is suggested and that I believe would be unique compared to the others and would be fun to use.
Herblore: I plan on making this very similar to the forestry bees system in the use of genetics and have quite a few ideas for possibilities of the uses of this but as I haven't had the chance to test if they work I would rather not reveal them, like to keep some surprises. I also plan on expanding on the vanilla potion system quite a bit, I'm still unsure weather or not I want it to be something where you have to just play around with it to get new potions, or have it much easier to know what you are doing.
Alchemy: I don't have an overly specific plan for alchemy simply as I assume I will need to have it working at a simple level before I can figure out what I will be able to do without it becoming completely overpowered so do not think you will just be turning lead to gold on a whim, I plan on extremely limiting how often it can be used, or have some sort of loss of material to balance out the system, i might even take this out completely.
Sorcery: As it would be very hard to implement any tech tree into sorcery involving a lot of crafting or anything similar in the way that I can for many of the other elements I will be adding, I am considering having an entirely different dimension that the player must go to to fight bosses or explore dungeons to obtain new magical abilities, and I may have specific items needed to fight/reach the bosses which the player would need to obtain by climbing a tech tree, which will definantly be cool if I can pull it off properly.
Summoning: Not too much of a plan on this one really, I don't want the player shooting followers out of his hand so I plan on making a crafting system for some sort of summoning scrolls or other, the ingredients for which may need to be found in the dimension the sorcerer will be using.
Tinkering: I plan on making a system similar to research in Thaumcraft2 unless i can think of something more original I also don't have too many ideas for item effects to add on this so any suggestions are welcomed
Engineering: This Is where I will be putting any ideas for things that could be combined with the rest of my systems that would be helpful in automation and i plan to have all of these machines be fully compatible with other mods like buildcraft and redpower's tubing systems.
The Dimension / Magic: Basically my current idea for what magic actually is, is dark energy, one theory on what dark energy may be is extra gravitational force from the big bang that ended up in a 4 dimensional plane... there are many others, but this one sounds cool and will be a nice way to explain a bunch of stuff in the mod(Mostly everything I add with magic will have an anchor in science, or at least I try to do so, to push the fact that it will be a tech mod.) Now, for some unexplained reason the player can interact with this plane and is able to move between them with some cool gadgets, this means the player has power to control gravity that is thousands of times stronger than that in our dimension, so they can pull particles apart causing things to catch fire, or group together the atoms needed to make just about anything (even if it isn't in the air, its minecraft, I'm willing to sacrifice science for fun) and will be able to do things like create singularities with sacrifices of huge amounts of energy basically anything... the player can also travel to this dimension... but as it is 4 dimensional and that basically to the human brain involves a 90° turn from reality... is impossible to comprehend, so there will be many things in there that don't make sense, such as ghost images of mobs, visual distortions and (if I can get it to work) changing terrain every time you visit(won't effect buildings). the player will be able to craft goggles of inter-dimensional interaction, which will be able to interface with the player to make sense of the new dimension to a 3-dimensional being like Steve. There will be many dungeons and bosses for the players to fight to unlock new magical abilities. This is about all of my ideas for this that I like enough to say publicly.
Notable Blocks/Items: This is where I will put information on anything I have made that I believe is unique, basically, the coolest stuff I have to show
InfiChests:
These blocks will be extremely expensive chests that will have infinite storage, this probably sounds op at first, which it is, so I added an inconvenience to them, this is that if a chest has an item in it, it will be locked to that item until you empty it, so you will only be able to place more of that kind of item, this means that you will still need to have very large storage rooms and sorting systems, but you simply will no longer need to throw out more than half of the income from your quarry as most of us will be used to by some point, especially frame quarries.
I am considering making these multi-block structures like the coke oven from railcraft, this would make it easier for me to make an expensive recipe without just including a ton of diamonds, as you would need more of the blocks, and it would make using them even that much more inconvienient
Any input or suggetion is welcomed.
Question: What do you think would be some cool things to be able to do with magic? Other than basic shooting fire from your hand.
Question: Do you think the new dimension should be a wasteland? Or more populated? or possibly something completely different?, if so explain.

I have decided to take help on textures, so if you are willing to help, leave a post here, or pm me and show me some of your work
-how bout use it to control mobs, have it so that voodoo dolls require special and rare items that drop from each mob.
-for example use it as some kinda rag-doll thing so you can throw around mobs and cause them to fall to their untimely demise.
-or use it to force hostile mobs to obey your orders or something with like an advanced GUI.
-maybe add a "voodoo table" where you craft voodoo dolls and link them to specific mobs but each one can only be linked to one.
- here could be some basic features for the voodoo thing.
* throwing a voodoo doll out of your inventory will cause the mob that its linked to to get knocked back.
* make mobs easier to heard by "forcing" them to follow you into a pen.
*control mobs at your finger tips and tell them to blow up on command(creeper) teleport blocks to you (enderman) Force an egg(enderdragon/chicken). the sky is your limit..... if you need more creative ideas im your man!!!! and lastly im good with textures aswell.
well some of the thoughts i had with voodoo were things like keeping animals from moving when you attack and some of the things you mentioned i did plan to implement, the problem i am seeing is how to make it have a full tech tree and a sense of achievement when you climb that tech tree.
here is a chance to get input on the mod "I plan on adding magic essence of some sort, I'm not too sure how I want to make the player get it, it will be the first thing they must get, I want it to be decently difficult, but they also should be able to get it at the beginning of the game. anybody have any ideas? my current one involves grinding up an enderpearl with a pestel and moarter that they would make with a bowl and bone or something similar and using it in a brewing stand with glowstone and redstone, but if anyone has a better idea please leave a comment as I don't necessarily like my current idea." I will try to give chances for people to give input like this as much as possible whenever I don't like the way i am currently doing something, or simply don't have any idea how to do something.
yes I understand that, I understand how it would work, I still cannot think of a way to add any feel of progression, I feel it would just be "ok I got a voodoo doll, I guess I've done everything I can with voodoo." I don't see a way to make the character progress any farther than this.
I've finally figured out forge 4.x ... sort of, I'm starting to like it more and more as I go on. Anyways I'm getting a lot more done now that its figured out and once I get some screenshot-worthy made ill start putting screenshots up.
currently working on a wand workbench type thing, it is similar to the lens bench from the laser mod, instead of colors there will be materials to make the wand's core, and other materials that can be used to modify the strength and other aspects of the wand, the player will have to get the materials for the cores from fighting the bosses, in the other dimension (which I have quite a few fun ideas for) there will be no mana bar as I feel that would be op if the player could regenerate, instead they will have to gather it from the atmosphere or by burning up items, they will then be able to store this in an item (the item will also slowly gain charge while in the player's inventory... very slowly) I also may make wand stands which will allow these to be automated to allow for this to work well with many tech mods, I also believe i may make this magic liquid transportable by BuildCraft liquid pipes, but you will still be able to put two blocks that can hold magic touching each other, and have it evenly distribute between them in case people for some silly reason don't play heavily modded, I mean that is the point of me using forge isn't it
added to the pole, also still looking for input on how to make the magic essence (recipe, or machine[leaning towards the machine as I will try to make this work with buildcraft liquid tubes]) along with any other input/ideas, I'll be putting up screenshots of the wand making table once its ready.
Had an idea for the new dimension, tell me if you think it would be annoying or not. Basically instead of a normal dimension like the end or the nether, the dimension which i have yet to name would be a 4 dimensional plane, which means that the Steves who are natives of a 3 dimensional plane would not be able to comprehend it and many things would not make sense and their brains would put together a confused image, this means that while in this dimension there would be visual warping similar to when you go into a nether portal along with some other effects I have in mind, unless the player were to craft goggles that were able to take in the 4 dimensional space and display it to the player as a 3 dimensional space... which I will be using to give the player a descision, as I will add in another helmet which will make the player extremely effective when it comes to fighting in this dimension, but will not fix the distortions, or even make them worse, this means the player would have to choose between fighting while overpowered, but being uncoordinated, or giving up protection for coordination. this may just end up being annoying so I may take it out once i get to work on the dimension if I feel it subtracts from gameplay, or just makes you nauseous.
updated the poll again. remember, I am very open to ideas so feel free to leave suggestions, also vote in the polls, I'm going to be using them quite a bit to get input.
working on an idea I call the "InfiChest" this is an extremely expensive chest that will prevent the need to void your materials in the late game, basically they are chests with infinite storage, but the catch it that as long as it isn't empty it will be locked to whatever item is in it and will only be able to store that item, this means there will still be need for storage systems and sorting systems, but you simply will no longer need to throw out your cobble, nicolite, or redstone, or anything else when you set up some giant frame mining machine, or your ee factory is overflowing... like I said this will be extremely expensive so the player will only really be able to get it once they are in the stages of the game where it would be necessary, and it should not be op like other chests that simply store infinite amounts of items in other mods as it would most likely mean they would have to make their sorting systems even larger, so each item would have its own chest, and the storage romms would have to become larger too... so it would actually be a lot of work to set up.
