I would very-much love to have this complete within the next two months (For the stand-alone SSP version). Based on my current speed at finishing bits of code, that seems reasonable, if a bit generous.
I have been waiting for this mod! It sounds so cool! I need horses! Maybe you should have a friend who is a mod maker help you with the little stuff you can't post the mod yet because of! Otherwise I am going to build a castle and add a stable!

Simply Horses Installation Instructions
To install Simply Horses on a PC:
Install ModLoader (Use the instructions provided on Risugami's page
Make sure you've deleted the META-INF folder.
Run Minecraft, close Minecraft
There should now be a "Mods" folder in your .Minecraft
Drop the SH zip file you downloaded into the Mods folder.
Run Minecraft.
To Install Simply Horses on a Mac (Thanks BryGuy):
Install Risugami's ModLoader
Copy all .class folders into your minecraft.jar
Copy the SImplyHorses folder (Contains textures) into your minecraft.jar
Copy the images from the mob folder to your minecraft.jar mob folder
Delete your META_INF folder from the minecraft.jar
Not Sure About Linux Yet. Sorry.
What You Can Do So far and How to Do It.
Catch Wild Horses with the lasso!
Herds should spawn in groups of 5 - 10 (and please tell me if you see superherds anywhere, including one stallion, and may have foals. To safely catch one, sneak up to them and right click with the lasso. Once you've lasso'd a horse, it will release smoke particles and follow you around....
DO NOT change items from the lasso or horse food (sugar cubes, wheat, apple, bread, cake). You will release the horse! Yes, that's intentional :3.
You can hitch your horse to wood or fencing (with right-click), and then freely use whatever item you want.
Horses will be in "breakmode" for two Minecraft days, but you can give the horse food to lower the counter. 8 cakes will do it, at the very least. Each food item counts differently (and I ordered them above from least powerful to more).
Right-click with the food item in hand to give them food. You'll know you were successful when the horse emits hearts.
Also be careful: giving wild horse's treats also comes with the chance of them hitting you :3.
You'll know they're broken when they stop smoking <3.
Assign all three breeds
Give your newly-broken horse a bridle to keep him as a Mustang!
Give your newly-broken horse horseshoes to turn him into an Arabian!
Give your newly-broken horse a yoke to turn him into a Clydesdale!
You'll know you've done it right when they show a little flash effect (and change breeds).
Ride! Kill! Speed!
Equip your Mustang or Arabian with a saddle. Sneak and right click to mount/dismount! Horses automatically jump one block when able. But manually jumping (spacebar) allows him to jump 2.5 blocks. Galloping, you can jump ravines! Please be careful, though....
Riding Mustangs does not yet give auto critical hits, but you can ram into mobs at full speed and send them flying ^^;.
And of course... Arabians are speed demons (please tell me if they go too fast). Be careful however. Ride too close to a creeper and it will not end well.
Right-Click your horses without the lasso, tack or food to remove the saddle.
If your horse is attacked or gets hurt, he will panic and run around! To regain control of him, hold the S-key (force him to walk backwards) until he calms down.
If he's still able to move forward, dismount and let him calm down
If he's more-or-less standing still or backing up, keep pulling back, he should calm down.
Calming down can take a few seconds (alternatively you can just dismount). Once your moving backwards freely, he's calm.
Breed like with like and get foals!
Use sugar cubes when your horses are at full health. Suddenly Foal!
Other stuff!
If a horse is following you, you probably have him lasso'd. Right click him with the lasso to release him, or right-click fences or wood (logs) to hitch them. Or right click another horse to tie him to them.
Can't do jack with Clydesdales yet.
Your horses are living things, and they get tired! You'll know their health or energy is low (and by how much) depending on how low they are holding their heads. The lower their heads, the more hurt or tired they are. Arabians and Mustangs will buck you off if they're out of energy!
What I'd Like You to Report On
Fairness
Check out the recipes, the catching mechanics, the energy consumption. Does anything seem too easy or hard (especially too hard?).
Unknown Bugs and Glitches
There will be a known bugs list below. If you spot something knew, let me know, please! Also provide the seed and coordinates if you can ^^;;
Also, I haven't tested this with other mods, so I'm not sure of compatibility. It shouldn't cause problems with anything besides maybe Mo' Creatures, but if you find something, let me know.

Bug Entries with gold comments either can't be replicated, were fixed indirectly, or won't be addressed immediately. All crossed-out entries indicate fixes that will be implemented in the next alpha release.
Horses don't remember who they are supposed to follow on the lasso after you reboot the game.
Foals also don't remember their mothers (and vice versa) after reboot.
Hitching isn't particularly useful yet. Horses can be frightened away from where their post is.
No sounds yet, so don't freak out.
Right now, horses spawn everywhere. Everywhere. And Often. This is just for debugging purposes.

This is awesome!!!!!!, one suggestion, make the walking speed for the horses a little bit faster and make the tail less tall. Everything else is fine and hitching my horses is freaking awesome

I'm glad you like the mod!! I'm glad it works!! Yeah. I much more like the Clydesdale's tail compared to the Arabian and Mustang's. I'm probably going to edit their models for the next release and make them similar 8P.
And I thought the walk speed was a bit low. I'll bump it up in the next release.
Those pictures are awesome though! The bottom picture isn't of a large herd. It's actually three separate herds that spawned in close proximity to each other. I haven't added in the rarity code yet for debugging.
You know how in the screenshot above, the clydesdales tail reaches that line of the stair, make it reach half of the stair form the point it all ready reaches, around there should be a good size, just make it longer and then add that to the horses
Sinsady: Thanks for the notice. In all my time testing this mod, I was never near a taiga biome, so I never thought to check their motion on ice. I think I know what the problem is, though. :3

LadyOTD: o_o.................................................................. I have never seen that error before. Looks like it's applying the player skin and another random one to a full-grown horse. Are these foals that were caught with their mothers in the wild, foals that were bred, or both?

I haven't tested it yet, but thinking back on it, as with ice, there *could* be a speed issue when in Lava. If you don't die immediately.
I recognize that error with the "mosaic" foals. Happened once to me when I changed the dimensions of a mob to be larger, the texture didn't align correctly and it did that. I'm not sure who your growing up works, but perhaps try resetting the texture when growing? It might be that it still stays on the foal texture, which doesn't align with the horses.

I got that error when I tried to spawn them in with SPC.
FInding them Wild doesn't do that, But Spawning Tamed Horses do that. (Doesn't do it if you do just spawn a Normal horse, Thats not tamed)
If you're using SPC, I have no idea how that works, but never call "Horse." That is a base class that is missing a lot of the breed behaviors, and does not have a texture.
use "Wild Horse" or "Mustang" or "Arabian" or "Clydesdale" or "Foal" or their corresponding entity IDs. But know that custom-spawned foals will always grow up into Wild Mustangs |D
Also I've fixed the texturing issue with the grown-up foals. I use a breed-based switch statement to control what breed they grow into, and I had a number wrong <3. Wild Foals would grow up into the basic, textureless Horse. I haven't uploaded the fix yet, but I will soon. I haven't been able to replicate the issue with other breeds though (but I also can't hack them into the game. I don't have SPC)

What to do to Make this Occur: Lasso a wild horse. Jump up to higher or lower block in terrain.
Glitch 2: If you lasso a Stallion, then un-lasso him away from his herd, the herd teleports to him.
What to do to Make this Occur: See above.
Glitch 3: Some Un-Lassoed horses continue to *smoke* as when lassoed.
What to do to Make this Occur: Uncertain. Doesn't always happen.
Glitch 4 (?): Mare teleports back to herd (Even if not nearby) after being un-lassoed.
What to do to Make this Occur: Lasso wild mare. Walk away from herd. Un-lasso mare.
Question 1: What happens if a stallion is killed, and not by another stallion?
Suggestion: Currently foals cannot be lassoed. Is this purposeful? Simple suggestion is to make it so that they can be lassoed.
