I am very slowly closing in on 'fixing' the spawn bug. I still don't know why it occurred, but it has led me to experiment with just how frequently I'd like herds to spawn in the first place. Right now, I can almost guarantee that at least one herd will spawn per plains, but given the size of plains I find that a bit unfair, even by my standards. Right now, it's essentially finding a needle in a haystack.
I'm going to keep fiddling with it and see if I can get that spawn rate higher without flooding the plains (which has been harder than it should be).
Really? I've been playing for less than an hour and I've already encountered three herds. One in the plains, one in the jungle, and one on a beach. And each of them were nicely sized.
Haru, I'm glad you're enjoying the mod! Like Rokudaim said, you sprint to make your horses gallop. I'm sure you'll notice a speed difference then |D. As for the lasso accuracy, you can at the moment only lasso a horse by right-click their front half as I'm still working out how to create an oblong bounding box (I can't seem to cover their entire bodies unless I also sacrifice the ability to move them through 1-block-wide openings. And the rarity is not intentional. There is a weird glitch causing horses to only spawn in deserts that I'm trying very hard to fix ._.;;
Hey, don't stress over it too much. So far this is an absolutely astounding amount of work, and the amount of detail you are putting into this mod gives it a realism a lot of mods lack. Cudos to you for that!
Hmm... as for the Desert spawning issue. Perhaps if you change the code to say specifically which biomes they can spawn in? More or less, instead of trying to "prevent" them from spawning in just deserts, give a range of biomes to enable spawning, It may possibly fix the issue. Or maybe this is me trying to use reverse theory on something that doesn't work that way. o.e (Forgive me if that made no sense... My knowledge of computer coding is rather limited. ^^; I'm just trying to think outside the box.)
And considerin the 1 block openings thing.... In truth horses are pretty big animals, so I dunno if that's much of a sacrifice? True it can be inconventient when you can't get them through fence gates and such. (I found this tedious with the horses in Mo's Creatures.)
Heh, I "fixed" the issue (probably temporarily) by doing just that Haru :3. You were right on point. I'm just waiting on releasing the new version (Alpha 0.2.1) while I fix some other bugs and write up a detailed gameplay manual xD.
Alpha 0.2.1 has been released! See the Opening Post for a new, shiny gameplay guide!
Current Version Info and Gameplay Instructions - Version Alpha 0.2.1
This version is outdated and has major bugs. Please download the latest version (found in the first post). If for any special reason you require an old version of this mod, contact me via PM. Download (SSP 1.2.5)! This mod Requires Risugami's ModLoader! DELETE YOUR OLD COPY OF SIMPLY HORSES FROM THE MODLOADER 'Mods' FOLDER. Please remember this mod is still a WIP and is being released as-is in order to bug test. Unexpected results may occur. This is not the finished product, so please hold your opinions (and remember this fact when forming them). I do want to hear suggestions and of course bug experiences though, so please don't hesitate to post them. I want this mod to not only showcase my vision but also to entertain those who download it.
Fixed data transfer error causing horses to lose energy when changing breeds.
Fixed glitch causing two arrows to be fired while riding Mustangs.
You can no longer tie horses to Wild Horses.
The Horseback Archery mechanic has been made more fluid. Horses will not lurch to your rotation after you fire an arrow. You decide when to retake steering.
Made horse movements more lifelike and fluid. In particular, added galloping animation.
Fixed glitch causing horses to spawn primarily and in large part in deserts
First implementation of restricting horses to spawn only in plains with decreased rarity
Horses in Break Mode are now less eager to hurt you.
Known Bugs and Potential Bugs to Watch For
Horses occasionally disappear or duplicate on reload after a crash or if the game is shut down improperly
Ridden Horses do not turn with the player if standing still
Arabians lose momentum when they collide at full gallop with other horses.
If you have a horse lasso'd and dive underwater, they will warp to you and potentially drown.
Mustang mares can hurt their foals while galloping.
Potential Bugs that I Can't Replicate
Suggestions and Ideas That Are Not Yet Implemented
Increase walking speed
Decrease breaking countdown while sleeping
Add colorable halters.
Horse speed should match player speed of whatever it is following.
Lasso's should work on passive mobs - This was actually a plan in the original idea, and is half-coded but not implemented.
Various Breed textures! - Also planned but not implemented.

I am not supporting old versions, but if for some outstanding reason you need the current SH version coded for an old MC version, let me know and I may code it.
Avii, the Mod is sooo awesome !!! I'm looking forward to the end version (sorry if the word is wrong i don`t know how to call i´m german )
I have one question is it normal that i can`t ride the Clydesdale?
DeadSlime, you're going to have to give me more information. First of all, have you read all of the first post? It may solve your problem. if it doesn't, then you should post about it. I need your Minecraft version number, the Simply Horses version number, what mode you are playing in, what item you were using, and what breed of horse you were trying to ride.
Thorn, what DjGyarados said =P. Please read the opening post.
Bearpigs, I'm glad you like the new anims! Are horses spawning too rarely? I've seen plains spawn 1-5 good sized herds. Are you seeing anything different?
I've noticed that horses are considerably rarer since the newest update. I've usually encountered atleast one herd per plains, but I'm not upset. This has made horses much more valuable and I like the idea that I have to manage their populations if I want to have growing group of horse breeds.
