Sorry guys, but I'll have to push back the alpha release a couple days (possibly a few). Thanks to Stewiecraft and Bryguy, I finally got the riding code fixed, so I'm now pressing on with finishing the details on that and getting the Arabian and Mustang coded. I have nothing (important) to do this weekend, so I'm really going to try and play catch up (I'm about a week behind where I want to be, actually xP).
Of course I will keep you guys updated. For now, cheers!
In other news, Equestrian Noob Level Up!.. ^^ I can trot and post now. We're moving on to western saddles and cantering next week!

Nice! I'm assuming you started out in an English saddle? (Or maybe Australian, I don't know actually know. xD)
That always looked much harder than starting out in a Western saddle because at least they have something to grip when you can't quite keep up with your horse's gait. (Or if your horse has a tendency to buck, and mine always do. <3)
Also, are you just riding for fun or do you have some specific type of riding you'd like to do, like dressage, show jumping, or barrel racing?
After you're satisfied with this mod, you should do something similar , but with wolves instead. As in , the wolves travel, and hunt in packs.
Ideas for the wolf thingy in here. V
There could also be the pack leader, or the Alpha wolf(I think that's what they call it). The Alpha wolf would lead the group as they travel through forests.
The Alpha wolf would also be bigger, and stronger, while the weaker ones are smaller.
They would travel in packs of 3-4 or something. There could also be the weakest one, which would be the only tameable one. Or the others would be harder to tame? I think it could be pretty cool.
Maybe you could call it " Simply Wolves "
Edit: Just made a topic for this in the request section, maybe in case you don't want to do this, maybe someone else could . Here's the link just in case.
Gar, yep, we started out in English saddles, and yeah, according to our instructor, English is harder than Western simply because you don't have as much to grip or balance on (I think Western saddles put you more in alignment with the horse? *Noob*) Luckily, our horses don't buck, though they do have attitudes (and one of my classmates is on an ex-racehorse. He has two modes of locomotion: walk and canter (and if not, gallop).
I'm mostly learning just for pleasure riding, but I really really wanna do barrel racing xD. None of that fancy-smancy dressage stuff!
Jim, just for that, I'm going to rename the tope "Simple Horses RPG" ;3. But thanks for the faith, anyway ^^
Shady, thanks. I hope it is as good as it looks on paper =P. Or Post. Whichever.
Celi, I'm glad! I was aiming for something that fit right in with the overall feel of the game. ^^
And Gyarados, heh, I dunno if I'd do a wolf mod to be honest, plus, wouldn't that involve messing with base classes? Scary stuff, there xD. I'll probably be busy making CH add-ons, but if you want to make the wolf mod, I'd be happy to help you along with it 83.
Drinking game for those over the legal age in your country: Every time someone says "Simply" in this topic, drink.
For those under said age, candy. Go!
I'm not responsible for anything that comes out of this.
^^ Mustangs, Arabians and Clydesdales are now in the mod! The breed-specific programming still needs to be done, but you can at least invoke each of them once you've broken a wild horse ^^.
Arabians and Mustangs can be ridden with or without a saddle. They trot or gallop (sprint key). Or walk (shift key). They can be mounted by shift-rightclick.
Saddles are removable, but not yet craftable
Tack (saddle, bridle, shoes, and yoke) function correctly but are not yet craftable.
Feed (sugar cubes, wheat, apple, bread, cake) function correctly (heal and replace energy), but sugar cubes are not yet craftable.
Arabians are super fast. I may have to tone their speed down a tad, actually.
As you can see, there's still a bit I have to code, texture and clean up (not including the Clydesdales, which will be programmed post-alpha) before I release the alpha, but it's all coming along nicely so far. I apologize for not having any video, but my computer can't handle it. I'll see what I can do about that...
But for now.... Bedtime.
And I totally recycled the current saddle texture. Call the cops.

Freaking Awesome!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to try out the pre release

Oh okay . I don't think i'd be able to do it, I also don't have much patience when it comes to coding. heh.
Awesome mod. I can't wait until the final product of this come out! I like the view of horses in this game. I downloaded Mo' Creatures for the horses but i don't like the fact that you get all these other useless animals. Please keep up the good work and continue working on this mod please
Jim, I may add special breeds in a CH-add on. DJ, oh pshaw, AI ain't so bad at least :3;;..
So I've finished "coding" the Arabian and am working on the Mustang. I say "coding" because I really only changed two variables and a method from the RideableHorse class. Not much of extraordinary achievement xD.
Also, I'm contemplating changing the breeds slightly, and you all's opinions would be very helpful in the decision. As I've said before, I was going to add a rodeo aspect to the mod (either SH or CH-addon).
The Rodeo would be a simple game-like afair. You hop on the horse, it bucks and runs and turns etc. You stay on if you can stay aligned with the horse's head. If not, you get bucked off (and hurt).
In SSP, your score is recorded and I may implement a reward for staying on longer or breaking your record.
In SMP, your score is just recorded =P.
I've thought up two options:
Option 1:
Pretty much, it would split the Mustang breed into two: the (new) Mustang and the Friesian. The Friesian would take over the "war horse" type from the original mustang, the new mustang would be used in rodeo.
Option 2:
Keep things the way they are, and use wild mustangs (actually, stallions) for the rodeo. I would have to think up a new way to catch stallions (as they run toward you, not away like mares).
Now that I'm thinking about it, I prefer option 2, but I'll leave up to you guys :3
Soo... what do you guys think? If I can even code the rodeo stuff, I'd implement it all with SH if I have time before the end-of-April deadline ^^;
The mod is now at a place where I feel it's worth an alpha release.
You can now hitch horses to fences and wood, though the code needs to be refined. The Mustang code is not finished (no autocrits, but you can charge/ram enemies), but I promised an alpha that should have been here over half a week ago. I'll probably release a second alpha version later on down the line, and then get to work on the Clydesdales and carts (and farm tools).
(Also, there's no sound yet, but if all goes well, the official release will not require AudioMod (less for you to download and install))
I will begin converting it to ModLoader tomorrow. I'll be releasing it only as a 1.2.4 ModLoader mod (not bothering with 1.2.3 anymore, since we're almost at 1.2.5).
If all goes well, my hundredth post here will be announcing the first Simply Horses alpha :3...
Of course I will keep you guys updated. For now, cheers!
