Someone has already mentioned Cubic Chunks mod to allow for greater map height, but when 1.9 compatibility comes is it possible for you to make it compatible with one of these or a mod of the like: Fishtaco's height mod Dynamic height mod
They allow the normal world to be 256, 512, 1024 blocks high etc etc, but more importantly, the world generator takes advantage of the height and make gigantic mountains and huge caves.
Would it be possible to, say, make all 4 dimensions 256 high each?

If doing that, just please do not extend anything to 512 with linear chunks. Endless reports show that 512 high linear chunks slow things down waaay too much. Even 256 causes a slow down, but newer computers should be able to handle 256. But more than one 256 at the same time? I'm curious to test that. :smile.gif:

I agree with this. When you travel to The End on 1.9 there's actually open void holes. If you arrange the world this way,

Now it requires modLoader and some mods that use it are compatible.
The next step is the Forge. Then small mods, like water shaders.
