"What?" you say? Well, the reason is because I am going to make a bigger, more generic mod (ie not just Nether based) and this will be my main project!
"What about this one?" you say? Well, this is going to be put into the new mod! So everything here will be in the new mod, as well as other goodies I can think up.
I would put up a final 1.2.5 version of Nether Better but 1.3 is so close I don't see a real point.

Allow me to disagree: many players who are used to mod their games got into the habit of keeping old versions of their minecraft.jar - I have from beta 1.6 up to today. Until all mods are updated into 1.3 it will take time, and many will keep modding 1.2.5 for a while.
For example, I wanted to play (and record a video series) of an adventure between "Eternal Frost" - an ice nether-like dimension - and the Nether; an ice and fire adventure. But since nether is so "lacking", I am yet to find a good nether mod to spice it up. In other words, I see a point in playing many 1.2.5 mods.
Still, I understand your point of view. I wish you luck with the bigger mod, and also wish to see how it goes.
Hello Groxmapper. I'm a big fan of your Nether Better mod (I think it's the best expansion to the Nether I have yet seen) I have a few questions/suggestions. Do you have any idea what your new mod will be called, and what the goal for it will be? Also would you care to tell us any of your ideas for this new mod? And will you continue to add the the Nether experience in your mod?
As far as suggestions go I feel that you should break your mod up into mod packs, kind of like the old mystic ore mods so that people can pick an choose what features they want. I say this because some people may want to leave the vanilla world largely unaltered, but would still desire your imrpovements to the Nether. I for one have been trying to get an interesting dimension for each element (Aether for Air, Tropicraft for Water, Twilight Forest for Earth, and hopefully your mod for the Fire), that adds more to minecraft without altering the vanilla experience of the overworld too significantly. With the approach the 1.4 and the release of the new API having all these mods on one server will likely be possible (TF and Tropicraft are already comatible and Aether II will of courseb e smp) and it is my hope that your mod will give the fire players on my server more interesting stuff to do.
I also would like it if you could make this mod compatible with Netherrocks. Currently the creator of the mod is ceding the mod to any available modder, as his father has died recently so you could talk to him or the new modder maybe about look at the item ids.
Anyways, keep up the great work. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

That is what I have planned. In truth, NB is ready, more or less, but the reason I am waiting is to deal with some problems i've hit with the API i've written that it uses.
Currently, Nether Better will still be Nether Better, I just revamped what it needs and make it more compatible, as well as updating to newer systems.
Along side it will be various tweak mods I have/will make, and ofc the API itself.

It's not dead but college has taken up all my time, so technically yes it's dead, but no in the sense that I have it, have been updating it, but every time I get close to a release MC jumps a version and said version usually has major changes so I need to start the process again.
Eventually i'm just going to go 'to heck with it' and upload a beta just so there's SOMETHING you guys can play...

I know Jeb can't get the understanding to not update so much, but 1.6 was a disaster! So you should update it to 1.5, because everyone should have the old launcher, and when it comes to 1.6, installing mods is sucky.

Releasing a beta version will allow people to find bugs, give suggestion, and Some may even know the solution.
I would say 1.5 is the version you should work toward.

Face it this one is dead
There are a few nether mods or mod that add stuff to the nether for 1.7.10 tho
For example:
-Biomes o plenty (Obviously)
-Nature (you most likely know this one too)
-Glenn's gases (if you want electric gases and corrosive gases in the nether, oh yes! and Glow stone shard showers too)
-Gany's nether mod
-um... for is enough right?
