This looks like an awesome mod, I would love to help. I have some modding exp. and i think i'm a decent pixel artist? Anyways, I think i could be the most help coding.
I may not be good with Entity Modding (Except for Gun like stuff), but I'm known to give good tips based on the stuff I've seen (Procrastinator)
I might be able to help out, I mean, the cannons, muskets and etc. They've all been done before, so I shouldn't think it would be that hard, and follow up with Boat Entity Studying, and it might go well
Pro Tip: Ask around Modders that have done stuff like this, you will most likely get some help
Example:
Telescope: SDK
Boats : Hoverboat Mod Creator, Planes Mod Creator, Other Vehicle Modders
Turret: djoslin
Multiple Ammo: I'm not sure
Also a suggestion about the mod, do not create a whole 4x4 Crafting Grid for Building a Boat, maybe you could follow the Style of the Planes Mod, where you put stuff in the right places, or maybe, you could follow it up like the WWII Gun Mod, where you put in resources to get the final result.
The only problem I can see, is then Entity-on-Entity Problems (Which are really buggy)
My suggestion for creating from scratch, would be to mess around with the Boat Item, so that you have some basic properties of what you want your big boats to have (Not as Fragile, etc.) and then move onto the harder things

well 2 big problems 1. mcp needs to update 2. my laptop broke down 3. my computer doesn't like to be left out so it broke down too so i may not be modding for about a week or two :sad.gif:
Your friendly neighborhood Kingpin here...
This is a fantastic project. Like you, i have always thought MC's bodies of water were sorely lacking. From reading the OP, the ideas are top-notch and i am looking forward to seeing this mod progress. Id like to offer what little skills i have.

If you've ever seen the GUI of the crafting table for the planes mod, something along those lines would be excellent for the boat workbench (shipyard?). Maybe ships could be ever so slightly customizable, instead of adding 3 masts to a galleon, the player could add two (saving resources but sacrificing speed) or even not adding cannons (lightening the ship, increasing speed, especially if it is just for cargo). Also, specialized trees could be added that are necessary for specific components. Better ships would require rarer trees, like HUGE pines for large masts required for galleons. Forests of these would be harder to find and very rarely drop saplings in order to prevent exploitation. I've long thought about a mod like this so I have some ideas floating around up here :smile.gif: Looks good though!

thanks for the awesome ideas :smile.gif: i like the customization ship bit would be a bit harder to code but it would be a great addition to the mod

For simplicity's sake you could always add the customization in a later update once you get the core mod finished for a nice foundation to branch out. I do have some other ideas if you're interested. Feel free to PM me.
ok added treasure islands, crossbow turret, the rowboat
also tablelight is working on some models of what the ships might looks like when they are done
good we need more modders
