It's always been my dream to add ragdoll physics to Minecraft. Together with a team, I'm creating them right now. The project is well under way, but feel free to join in and help with the programming at any time. It's an insane idea and a difficult challenge, but it might just work. We plan to add working ragdoll bodies to the zombie, zombie pigman, creeper and Steve. After that, we'll work on the ghast, pig, chicken, cow and sheep. The squid will come as well.
All we need is programmers right now. We have a fine team, so only apply if you have an advanced understanding of Java, or if you know exactly how to work with this mod. We're going to use JME3, so if you've ever used this physics engine, you may be able to help us.

I thought I might describe what this mod is going to feature. Read these before posting.
Current features being worked on:
Fully functional ragdoll physics for all mobs. Even slimes and squids.
The ability to push ragdolls with your feet.
Increased body disappearance rate. In order to get the most out of the ragdolls, body disappearance will be increased to thirty seconds. For those who don't have as good CPU's, you will be able to decrease the body disappearance rate. When a ragdoll is budged, the timer is set back to zero, but the ragdoll stills disappears after thirty seconds.
The velocity of mobs being increased when they are killed with TNT. When a mob is killed with TNT, it will be tossed through the air.
The gravity being reduced when ragdolls hit water.
Planned features for the future:
The ability to turn ragdolls on/off. If your computer can't handle the mod at all, you can turn of ragdolls without having to uninstall the mod.
The ability to pick up ragdolls, choke them, bash them or throw them. This will add an extra level of violence to Minecraft and will probably be controversial, if people disagree with this (especially Notch), we will not do it. We'll run a poll to see what people think.
Compatibility with other mods (SDK gun mod, mo's creatures, e.c.t.)
Sandbox tools that let people get the most out of the mod, like gravity guns, tractor beams, ragdoll cannons, and more. These tools would also add an addition to the GUI that lets you change the gravity and disappearance timer of ragdolls.

I would love to help record and or test. I know very VERY minimal Java, but have fraps, and a server as well if we need it. I can dedicate 2-3 hours a night around 10 pm Central Time. This sounds very cool and would love to be a part of it =]

1. What can you do to contribute to the mod beyond 'directing' it towards a goal you've already set out?
2. Do you know any Java programming? Physics programming? Any programming at all?

I'm sorry, but I've made a misstatement saying that I'm the director. I meant to say that I was the leader or overviewer of it. And to answer your second question, I do know Java programming. I'm also studying physics. My knowledge is basic, but that's why I'm trying to pull together a team.

ive got fraps (FULL VERSION), i can record in hd, i use Sony Vegas Pro 9 for editing, I can test the mod and the compability, i have some photoshop skills, and i can dedicate some 4-6 hours a day.
I'm not sure I see the point in this. It seems good as "Proof of Concept" but other than that, no real use for it until persistent corpses (Which doesn't seem useful, as blocky corpses as well, blocky), reasons why it would happen (MAYBE falling from very high?), and any other pessimistic reason I or any other person can come out with. I am not saying "Don't do it." It would be an amazing milestone and an example that Modding in Minecraft has near unending limitations.
The first thing we are going to need to do is change the body disappearance rate. In order to get the most out of the ragdoll physics, it's going to need to be increased. These disappearance rates will most likely be numerical, and changing them will be a good task for any beginner programmer. So, go into class files and change the zombie body disappearance rate to about 30 seconds. Record the results and share them if you are able to. But remember, do not post any attachment with part of the minecraft bin here.
