I installed this mod, and it seems that if I tunnel down about 10 or so blocks, I hit invisible material that I can still tunnel through, but I can see all the caves and stuff under me. Its fun to tunnel toward something interesting, especially when the blocks near me never render.
Even if I hit the fast/fancy button or change fog views, that only fixes the immediate area, and once I leave the chunk, get more invisible block fun. I would hate to have to keep changing my view distance every chunk I explored.
Also, something strange, is when I go into a cave an put a light, I dont see the light shining, just the entity sprites of the smoke and fire. Sometimes theres a line where it renders properly, but It still dosn't work when I refresh my view.

+10 fps? No no my friend. 40fps->130fps. I don't know what to say other than thank you and that this is hands down the greatest mod ever. I wonder what it would be like if this mod and the one that optimized save files were combined.
edit: I think later I will see if this mod gives enough of a performance boost to stop using fglrx. Minecraft is the only reason I'm not using the OSS radeon drivers.

Wow, sounds wonderful. I'm still going to download and test it out, but I love betterLight and betterGrass too much to give em up. Sounds heavenly though.
HAHA.. as am writing this my front gate and i got blowed up (by an creeper) and i died... (was in inventory, not pause) anyway i got tiny: ca 475 fps.
short: ca 400 fsp.
normal: ca 200 fps.
far: ca 150 fps. (when loking up i get ca 250)
before on far it was ca: 1-25 fps.
i feel like a new minecrafter =)
i have all the creatures mods (inc humans)
i got that other fast saves mod.
this mod.
and some other mods.
(sorry for my bad eng)
Has anyone tried this with MCFS (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=58184)? MCFS helps with the disk access to the chunks. So I'm wondering if the MCFS & FastRender are compatible and what kind of performance boosts are achieved with both installed (I'm setting up to test this in the near future, can't get to it quite yet tho').
They are compatabile (just tested) and granted me an additional 30 fps (on top of the boost this one gave). Thanks for that link. I can play fast and far now no worries.

I can't seem to get this to work. I renamed minecraft.exe to minecraft.jar cause it's the only way I could get the game to run at all. I tried adding the update files to the minecraft.jar file, but it won't let me and says archive is corrupt.

Also, I can't find %appdir%.
Its %appdata% not %appdir% but besides that you are not supposed to ever edit the launcher. Minecraft.exe and Minecraft.jar are the launchers. minecraft.jar is the game. To install mods you edit the game.
When I downloaded the game it only gave me the minecraft.exe. That's all. No installation or setup. I kept getting the bad video driver bug while running the exe so I had to change it to a .jar file and make a .bat file to get it to run. Ther is no other minecraft.jar file anywhere on my computer and the one that I mad has the metadata file in it so I figured it was the same thing.
After updating on OS X, I get the following error. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I've tried to do this, but when I do, Minecraft gets stuck at "Done Loading."
I found the minecraft.jar in the appdata folder, and I extracted it, replaced the files, deleted metaINF, zipped, then renamed it back to a .jar file. What am I doing wrong?
good job man!

Is this with v4?
McRegion is compatible with both.
Oh my no its v2... I downloaded it today so I thought it was the recent version... I'll go try v4.

My minecraft is vanilla, apart from this.
