Wondering if anyone would be interested in making a mod tweaking mobs to make them more challenging. I have no idea how to mod but it's so simple I bet someone could do it in no time.
Better Mobs, full change list:
1) Mobs pathfind to you from 100 blocks away.
2) Creepers explode when they can't get any closer to you.
3) Zombies can break glass and wooden doors (more realistic).
4) Spiders can climb anything, climb on the bottom of blocks (so overhangs) and squeeze through 1x1 holes (more realistic).
5) Skeletons have a range of 64-128 blocks (IRL bows can shoot 300 metres +)
I want to really fear mobs in survival. I want creepers blowing their way through my walls and unleashing the zombie hordes. I want spiders scaling my castle walls. I want to have to build cover and battlements into my roof out of fear of getting sniped.
With these simple changes, suddenly a wood shack and a door surrounded by a fence are a joke. I have to burrow deep into a mountain, build a dirt hillfort, or rebuild my wall every day in the early game. I have a very strong incentive to get better armour and weapons, to dig moats, to get good at redstone, to use tripwires, arrow dispensers, booby traps, lava, alarm systems, all built around thick walls of a big castle, or in the entrance tunnels of my underground base. There are now a thousand potential holes in my defence, and so a million different creative solutions.
The ultimate defence goes from being literally the first block you collect in the game (planks), to being an expensive obsidian outer wall. Still, exploding creepers will eventually tunnel under it. Spiders will go over it, maybe rarely carrying any of the other mobs. Creepers will slowly tunnel towards you from repeated spawns in nearby caves. Now using the landscape, and almost all blocks in the game, creatively, is required and not optional. Now survival is about survival, and beating the game or building amazing structures is 10x more impressive.
