I was getting back into the card game "Magic: The Gathering" and wound up brainstorming about how to add aspects of its magic system to Minecraft. If anyone would like to take a crack at it I have a lot of ideas for game dynamics and items/blocks and how they could interact to create a dynamic magic system. I'm not a coder myself, so I'm interested if anyone would like to help bring my ideas to life. Some ideas include:
Land/biome tapping.
Summoning system.
Mob tapping.
Artifacts.
Thaumcraft interactions and compatibility boosts.
Mana colors and how to use them.
Spellcrafting.
I realize there at least used to be a Magic: The Gathering mod that focused on mobs, so this would be a good match for an add-on for it.

There's already an MTG idea in this forums. Yes, the idea is dead. No, I don't know if anyone will pick up your idea or any of the others. And maybe you should ask yourself about the complexity of such a mod. Too hard to do, in my own opinion.
Well... I know of MTG I like your idea. I wanted to make some sort of magic system (Its really hard to come up with your own ideas). Sooo If you had some ideas you would be willing to share... I would love to make it a reality. Message me if you wish to give me your ideas. And yes, I will give you credit
MTG is Magic the Gathering. This idea will be hard to do because of all the mobs it would add (over a thousand) and the restriction. Better let this die until Minecraft can support at least over 9000 mobs.

Well no one ever said to add every card in the trading card game into the game just some to make it so like some how you could have them in card form and you have mana of some form that you get from each biome like in the inventory or in the gui. you could add npcs to like challenge you to a duel or just have so you attack the al ready mobs or something
no one ever said to take it to the max. yes it would be hard to implement the whole game of MTG in due to the fact that that game is over 20 years old and has Alot of expansion have come out so yea just something simple that implements abit in
I'm not really thinking of adding the mobs for this part per say. This is more about a potential magic system and its support structure. Some other mods already add similar mobs to MTG, and an add-on mod could always be possible. Many of the really large mods use add-ons and content packs.

I agree the magic system that has been proposed is quite a good one and I could also add my own touches to make it quite unique.

Sweet! I even like the idea of giving it a twist or two. Different worlds and planes always have a few unique twists. "Minecraftia" could represent another unique world, especially when everyone's world is different in Minecraft. Since each color has a set of themes the system could be made to be fairly intuitive. MTG players would catch on a bit quicker, but hopefully it will be easy for other players to get the hang of easily as well. Hopefully we can put together a good modular system to make things fairly freeform.
