I've googled it to no avail,
All I'm looking for is a mod that removes those annoying '&k' magic code things (the constantly changing text) from the chat.
Is there a mod that would let me do this?
If not, is anyone willing to take a shot at it? I think the best solution would be to just remove the [&k escape sequence] and replace it with ['&k'] but without actually invoking the magic code. It doesn't seem too complicated, but then again I wouldn't know right?
If someone had the time, maybe instead of just removing the instances of the magic code invoker, there could be a different mod that could be set to replace a number of chat elements. These could include
-(0) format codes (not exactly sure how minecraft handles text formatting, I guess you could call them 'escape sequences' or 'format invocations')
-(1) specific strings (text only, ignore formatting codes)
-(2) specific strings AND format codes
This mod would come with a config file that would follow a simple formatting scheme:
ruleType,toBeReplaced,replacement;
ruleType: 0,1,or 2 for the three types (or however many the mod will end up having)
toBeReplaced: String in double quotes, also some identifier for denoting text formatting, for example a value for toBeReplaced might be:
"The " + format.RED + "rules"
Note how strings and format codes are broken apart by pluses, and the format code is called by 'format. RED', not necessarily final implementation.
replacement: Follows same rules as toBeReplaced, but can also be an empty string "" for just removing the toBeReplaced value altogether.
Also, I think this could also benefit from a comment format, for example
#comment# would denote a comment
note how I'm purposely not making the format dependent on newlines, so that the dev doesn't have to worry about platform-specific newlines. So essentially, the rules could be written out all on one line, or be spread out logically
So an example config file might look something line this:
Other: rules should be applied step by step, from the beginning of the file to the end chronologically. So if a rule at the beginning changes "Foo Bar" to "foo Bar", and a rule at the end changes "foo Bar" to "foo bar", both rules should be applied, and the final output would become "foo bar"
Also note that I am typing this on my phone at night and I'm pretty tired, so please over look any spelling mistakes, I'll make sure to edit this post tomorrow.

Sorry had to do this. Read this, because Budder is not the same as butter, and sky started that as a joke with his friends, and too many of the immature 7-12 year olds started spamming it. Also, sky has asked many times that his fans stop doing things like that, because it is giving sky and his fans a bad reputation. I do find your idea interesting, and i would fully support it. One thing though, it could also be a plugin (just saying)

This had relatively NOTHING to do with the discussion at hand, except for the second portion. Thank you for the expression of your passive-aggressive nature.

Point noted about the whole budder thing, however keep in mind that I just wanted a simple example of how the mid would work.
Also, I absolutely agree with you on the plugin part, with that in mind each user would have their own config file etc
Also, I did some research and found two results, an old "improved chat" that hasn't been updated in forever, and tabby chat, which has way too many features and it's too complicated. I don't really want/need any of the other feature (tabs, floating chat window, etc), just some simple filtering.

Cool, I hope somone makes this because it seems like it would be pretty helpful
