I would like to build a round world mod and I need experienced modders to post their advice or apply to build the mod as I have no knowledge in that area. I can try to write equations and give requirements. Suggar has posted a great set of requirements so I used those instead of typing out practically the same thing.
Looping:
I have pondered this for a while and I think I have solved your problem a bit. If you loop the ends of the world and have a set biome that only is at the end of the world based on a height map that is placed with its inside edges at the same level as the regular generation blending it to the edge for a world that can be looped.
Fisheye:
I have built an equation to determine the fisheye amount. [(0 - 250) 250 being normal]
The worlds would have customizable size so the variables are:
X = height (that you are) in minecraft world
Z = half the amount of chunks in length (min 4 max 100) (if you set the world to be 4 chunks in each direction from 0,0; z = 4)
F = amount of fisheye
The equation (written in some basic script):
For if the player is over 1000 in height:
If(X>1000)
Then(F=100-Z)
If the player is under the world:
If(X<0)
Then(F=250)
I would like to support this idea by adding my thoughts about it.
1 To make a spherical world, a block can't have all square angles. The base of a block need to be smaller than the top.
2 Each layer top need to be the same size of the above bottom and vice verse.
WITCH IS THE SAME AS
2 All vertical lines of a block must be radial in relation to a defined point deep under bedrock
3 The world need to have a appropriated size cuz:
3.1 Other wise resources would end
3.2 Other wise lower layer blocks would look like sticks
4 the bedrock would be way above the core of the world, leaving its inner void/
5 Apparently the angle needs to be multiple of 22.5 so the 360° end with an integer number of chunks.
6 The size can't be overwhelming, otherwise this implementation will be indistinguishable.
As for 1 and 3 a equilibrium is needed, therefor 1 needs an ideal angle so the bottom layer block keeps its square appearance. It may require experimentation. But surly this constraint will make a very large world. Not sure is enough to fulfill the 3.1
I believe that these will work but for the mod we would have to do extensive testing.
If you would like to revise the post for others to understand be my guest but this is as organized as it will get by me.
In this you would be able to walk around the world and it would seem to be a round world. There would be limited amount of resources making a more difficult survival for people who want a challenge.

In this you would be able to walk around or dig through the world with each height level having one less block to simulate the sphere.

So how would the layers work? Diamonds are usually formed near level 12 would the levels simply start to go up again or would there be a bedrock cube or something in the middle their are some things that would take a lot of thought to make this mod. What would happen in the event of you mining completely through the planet?

there would be a bedrock floor like in regular worlds but the world would repeat around simulating a sphere with fisheye. none of this is permanent. it just an idea right now because I can't mod but if you suggest something good i'll add it to the post.
edit.
the more i think about that the more I like it. no bedrock. you can dig through.
Why are you copying ideas and duplicating them?? Quit spamming the forums with duplicate ideas...
This isn't a duplicate idea. I am much further to implementation than everyone that I have seen. I am asking for modders to help me out and non-modders to add ideas to it.
This would mean generating and simulating an entire world of cubes of a non-cubic size, and implementing gravity toward a given point rather than just down. It would also mean implementing timezones, with the entire sky having to be simulated... &c &c.
Yeah. Screw that for effort. You'd wind up rewriting all the world generation code, how blocks interact with one another, and adding all sorts of unneccessary chaff into it like mass and gravity. By the time you've done it, it's not Minecraft any more.
I wasn't planning on that but thanks for the feedback. A lot of the above isn't necessary it would just make it more realistic and I don't want realistic just limited world size and resources for a more interesting game. It would also be a world type (like superflat) so it wont mess up all of your worlds. Instead of making the cubes into the shape of a sphere it would make the cubes look rounded on top simulating a sphere.
Thats a blatant repost and spam. THATS NOT ALL! You also Necro'd the second thread you link to. Last response to it was "Posted 28 November 2011 - 03:54 AM"

Well instead of a "round" world, u can try makin a (kinda) cuibic world in which, in defined places u can "switch sides", and then the gravity will change and everything. By switching sides i mean u can walk from one side of the cube to another. Its gonna be a hell of a code writing but it'll definetly worth it!
I have considered that and it would be a lot of work. I'm not sure which one would take more but I am trying to find modders to tell me. Thanks for your feedback. It kind of reminds me of a level in a mario game where you can walk on walls but only by a ramp changing to a different wall.
Well I am no expert modder but I do have a basic understanding of the moddification of minecraft. To do this you would basically generate a large sphere of stone, then the world gen would make a smaller bedrock sphere in the center with the world's "gravity" originating from the center of that sphere. Then ores would be generated with their level being their distance from the center of the planet. Then the caves would be generated along with dungeons, mines and ravines all oriented based on where they are relative to the core of the planet. Finally the world gen would make the oceans, rivers, lakes, mountains and the rest of the landforms (including villages and such) on the planet then the vegitation would be generated and the animals would be spawned and wala, a spherical MC world. Of course water and lava would have to flow towards the core and the sphere would have to be verry large so you would not notice the curviture as much, but by far the biggest problem is that you would probably have to generate the world all at once, which would could crash some slow computers and cause lots of lag...
I hope my information was useful to you and that you will keep me up do date with the mod! PM me!
