first a note. I have no coding experience and thus have no idea how to make a mod, I am only posting this idea for a mod without having any idea if it's actually possible to make this mod.
the mod I am thinking of could be summarized as a combination of some mods. basically, when you die your items and experience all drop to the ground and you spawn back to your last spawnpoint. you then can go back to the spot where you've died to gather back your items and some of your experience. if you take too long to gather your items while you are in the area your items despawn. you also have the bad luck of dying in lava and losing most/all of your items.
so I was thinking of doing something with that. basically it start with when you die, your items and experience get stored, but not in a standard way. at the spot where you've died, a tombstone will get placed above ground, with a message saying who died, maybe also when, and how. in front of the tombstone you'd have a coffin (or just a double chest) that stores all your items and experience. but that's the start of the mod.
if you've reached the tombstone within a minecraft day, you can gather your items and experience without a problem, but if you take longer to gather it, things will get hard. after the first day your corpse will start to get corrupted, and if you get near your tombstone, a zombie steve will spawn. in the first stage the zombie steve will basically be the same as a zombie, except zombie steve will have all your items and a part of your experience. you'll need to kill him to regain your items.
after 5 minecraft days zombie steve will get stronger and stronger after absorbing all the experience you dropped, he'll be able to wear any armor or use any tool that you dropped to fight you, and if you get near the tombstone at night, the tombstone will act as a spawner and may spawn zombies. but there's 1 restriction for zombie steve, he can't get too far from his tombstone.
after 20 minecraft days, ooh boy, zombie steve has become quite a leader. he has ordered his zombie followers to infect any nearby creature and recruit them for his army. so every animal that get near them, will get infected and die. and be resurrected as a monster (maybe as one of the vanilla mobs, or maybe as a new mob) they'll protect zombie steve and attack anyone who comes near him. but zombie steve is not done yet, he has bigger plans.
after 30 minecraft days, zombie steven has figured things out, he wants to build a country with him as the king. he orders all his followers to start building him a castle. zombie steve his tombstone becomes his throne, and an actual castle gets build around it. the followers of zombie steve start to become more intelligent and actually start creating a whole town around the castle. they will start to create weapons and armours to become stronger, and to protect their king. for his most trusted followers, zombie steve will make them generals and stronger with his own power, and the number of generals depends on the amount of experience you dropped when you died.
and after 35 minecraft days, zombie steve has actually become a king, wearing full diamonds armor, his generals wearing gold armor, the soldiers wearing iron/leather armor, and the rest of his followers assigned to their own jobs (like mining, digging, chopping trees, breeding animals to then infect them etcetcetc) you will need to kill the king to unlock all chests in the castle to get your items back, but wait... you might find things that are alot more valuable.
like I said this idea is basically a combination of a few mods, like death chest, millenaire, better dungeons, battle tower and infection, maybe even some more that I don't know of.
to prevent these zombie steve towns from created all over the place, there are some restriction. a new tombstone can only be created after 35 minecraft days, and it needs to be distanced a certain number of blocks from the last tombstone. the mobs are weaker during the day, then during the night. if you kill one of the followers, you might be lucky and gain a headhelmet, which you can wear to be able to sneak inside the castle, but watch out, if they get suspicious they'll not hesitate to kill you.
because chunks get unloaded when you are not in/near them, it'd make this mod hard to progress all this way till the end stage, so the progress is based on minecraft days, and not active time in/near the chunk.
there may be different castle/towns designs in different biomes.
i like that idea expecily that 1 time i died long away from spawn and it would be a chalange to get my stuff back! i would love a mod like please make 1 like that!
