I am suggesting this because of Sly's awesome series known as HomieCraft.
For those who want to know Sly's YouTube name (where he posts videos), it is xXSlyFoxHoundXx. I put it in Italics so you could have it a bit easier. He is not limited to Minecraft, but he plays other games, too, such as Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Borderlands 2. Check him out, if you do not know of him already!
As you may be able to tell, I am a Homie, a fan of Slyfox. The basis of the "Hipo Family" mod would, well, to raise your own Hipo! If you want to skip to a part quick, check out the Table of Contents! Oh, and Magma Cubes are the same, but they can swim in the lava, but will die in water.
Tiers
There are 3 tiers of Hipo: Tier 1 (Baby/Tiny), Tier 2 (Juvenile/Small/Medium/Fat Hipo), and Tier 3 (Adult/Large). Tier 1
First off, Tier 1. Tier 1 is the Tier your tamed Hipo automatically has. (For more info on getting Hipo, check out the "Taming and Growing" section.) Tier 1 Hipos... pretty much are like Normal Hipos. However, you can right-click on the Hipo, and pretty much 'sit'. They do not jump when told to 'sit'. They won't despawn. They will also teleport to you when you get too far away from them. Plus, tamed Hipos can swim, so they are much less likely to drown! Hooray! Oh, and not to mention they got 5 hearts of health, so you can worry less about killing them. They also regenerate their health very slowly, about half-a-heart per minute or so. Tier 2
Now, Tier 2 Hipos. They are the size of the original "Fat Hipo". They now have 10 hearts of health, and can be healed by right-clicking on them with Slimeballs. They now regenerate about half-a-heart every 5 minutes, as long as they are hopping happily behind you. Might want to stock up on Slimeballs at this stage of Hipo's life. They can also be 'milked' to get a Slime Bucket, which can be put in a workbench to get a slimeball (and your bucket back.) You can slime a T2 once every in-game day. Remember, killing this one does NOT split into another slime. Tier 3
Finally, Tier 3 Hipos. These guys have 20 hearts of health, and regenerate around the speed which you do. They cannot get through single or double doors, so you might want to make a special place for your Hipo, or have 3 or 4 doors at your entrance, and no block above the doors. These Hipos can fight, and do as much damage as an Iron Sword. If this Hipo dies, it becomes a single Tier 1 Hipo, so you can grow it up again! Plus, for all your efforts to get your Hipo to Tier 3, they can be slimed 8 times a day! Finally, you can dye your Hipo. It should be compatible with most texture packs, to edit the colour of the Hipo correctly as long as it is green. Light Green dye would turn the colour of the slime back to normal coloration.
Taming and Growing "To tame an Hipo." If you plan on taming an Hipo, you require 4 - 12 'Hipo Slime'. To get this item, you must first craft an Slime Cube, which is basically the slime texture, but in a full block.
= Slimeball
= Slime Cube x1
Then you smelt it, and get an Hipo Cube! Put that in a crafting grid, and you get 4 Hipo Slime. Right-click a wild slime with the Hipo Slime in hand, until hearts pop up. It has to be the smallest form of slime, though. If it is a larger slime, kill it until it is the smallest form. Otherwise, you do not. Now, bring your new Hipo home, or you can grow him on the spot! Tier 1 Hipos are cute and cuddly, but Tier 3 are much more useful for combat. (If this were to be multiplayer, imagine a tournament of fighting Hipos.) It requires 32 - 40 Hipo Slime to make a Tier 1 into Tier 2. Better get to a good Slime chunk! After your Hipo is Tier 2, there is a 5 in-game day cooldown time until your Hipo can become Tier 3. Bringing an Hipo to Tier 3 costs, from Tier 2, 64 - 80 Hipo Slime. You might wanna slime your Hipo lots along with a good slime chunk. In total, it takes.. 96 - 120 Hipo Slime to raise your Hipo to the max!
Naming
You can name your Hipo, too! T1 Hipos can be named as soon as they are tamed, but their name is not able to be changed without mods/cheats. T2 and T3 Hipos, however, CAN be renamed. If you right-click these Hipos with Paper, you can rename them! You lose the paper, however. Anyway, when you are naming, there is a text box, and after the box, the word 'Hipo' is displayed with a checkbox by it. For example, if you wrote 'Sir' in the box, and 'Hipo' was checked, the Hipo would be called 'Sir Hipo'. If it wasn't checked, he would just be called 'Sir'. It would automatically be checked on. This is useful, as there would be an 8 character limit to the textbox. Naming isn't all that useful, but it can help you distinguish your Hipos if you have a lot! Hipo Family Options
People who play Minecraft know the buttons that appear on the Vanilla title screen. Singleplayer, Multiplayer, Options..., Texture Packs, Quit Game, and that little Language button. This mod, however, will make the "Texture Packs" button half-length (like Quit Game & Options) and beside it, you would see 'HF Options...', which, respectively, stands for Hipo Family Options. In there, it displays that (default pack) dirt for the background, and some buttons: 'Taming', 'Growth', 'Sliming', 'Miscellanious...', and 'Presets...' Taming
